I'm honestly curious about your thoughts on the Gameboy Megaman games, maybe a future video?
@ilikecurry23454 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the video will be divided into two "chapters", as KZbin is doing now. The first chapter will cover the first four games, and the second will be about the grand Game Boy finale, involving Rock's adventure to stop those Stardroids. Should include a lot of shade thrown World 2's way for mostly the screechy music and Quint's wasted potential, and at least one jab towards Pluto's demotion from planethood in 2006.

I'm still salty the Gameboy advance never got the game boy collection it was supposed to get at the same time the other consoles were getting the mega man console game collection. as far as I know except for I think one time I may be the Wii U the games have never appeared anywhere besides the Gameboy. And yes the fifth game from what I understand is amazing. and very different from literally any other version of mega Man that has existed or existed before it.

It's funny that this game never won a Master System version in Europe or Brazil, in these places the Master System survived for years by gaining ports of Game Gear games (even some horrible games like Sonic Blast) and the Master System version always had a bigger advantage because of the screen resolution. It would be interesting if that happened because then the Master System would have a MegaMan game like the NES.

While selling the game only in the US is slightly curious, if you know anything about US Gold, the rest of the story is not really surprising at all. They were known in the 80s and 90s as a publisher of home computer ports of console and arcade games, and companies would often sell off the rights for said ports very cheaply at the time, as they rarely had any interest in developing for the hardware. US Gold would often hire very low-tier developers (Such as the infamous Tiertex and Freestyle) to further keep costs down. Due to the original IP holder very rarely caring, they usually didn't get the source code for the games, often having to recreate assets by hand, which is probably the reason for the oversized sprites, as it's a little easier to just basically trace over the sprites then smartly redraw them for a lower resolution console, A lot of US Gold games show this off in their spritework, usually being incredibly low quality if not directly ripped from the original games. Freestyle had also ported Super Street Fighter 2 to the Amiga, and this shows there as well, seeming to just use the SNES version's sprites with a lower color palette. With that in mind, a MegaMan game that looked too much poorer than the NES games probably wouldn't have flown on the Game Gear as well as it would have on something like the C64. The rest of this is just conjecture, but the odd amalgamation of levels probably stems from all that as well, sort of just building randomly off different Mega Man games as they had very little understanding of them. They had to make *a* Mega Man game, but they didn't have direction to which one, and they didn't have any experience with anything but porting. Porting over Mega Man 1 to fit the name of the game might have felt outdated, and any other game might have just felt random.

I like to think there's two reasons that they plucked levels from Mega Man 5 1. Mega Man 5's levels are relatively easy. 2. Mega Man 5 didn't get a traditional Game Boy port.

Maybe it's better that Mega Man World 5 didn't use Robot Masters from 5 and 6. Because MAN OH MAN did those Stardroids ever spice things up from the norm! Instead of an octagon or two squares, there's now a nonagon, and for once Wily ISN'T the final boss, because he just found an ancient weapon known as Sunstar, who then proves to be far too evil for even him!

I actually didn't know the screen was crunched at all till I got the Mega Man collection on PS2 and realized what the levels were supposed to look like in 4 and 5, but I don't remember having any trouble with it. As I recall my older sibling was able to beat it, and I was able to get all the way to the last stage when I was like... 10. So it wasn't super hard over all. This game is also the reason that Star Man is one of my favorite robot masters and I love his stage. Even more so in Mega Man 5 for NES.

@@carloscruz7628 It's not so much bad as just inferior. Rockman and forte on the super famicom both sounded and looked so much better. Still tedious, but I'm sure if I had known this when I was younger, I'd probably have enjoyed the game a little more: "If the player holds the Jump button for a few seconds, they can move the camera position with the directional pad, allowing them to see any platform or trap that's otherwise offscreen."
