I remember seeing original X and being unable to save him as Elpizo impaled him in the chest, followed by X's arms popping off and violently exploding ;m; truly a traumatic experience seeing X die that way. (Granted it was a very interesting story element ;) )

I'm probably the only one but, Elpizo was the only antagonist that I enjoyed in the Zero series. While just an Administrative service reploid, He was the only one that had the will to escape Neo Arcadia, join and form the Resistance with Ciel. In his Righteous Strike operation failure, he admitted he wasn't strong enough and he couldn't face the Resistance as a failure from how the members viewed him. Secondly, he actually was able to subdue Harpuia, the leader of Neo Arcadia at the time(though with the baby elves). Still as a new villian why would he fight fair right? In the end, although he did destroy X's body(not cool) he did face his own mistakes and repented his actions. Lastly I love his theme. It portrays his story and ambition. How fitting that it's called Combustion. Even the remastered version sounds amazing.

My guess maybe from his pink attire and from his boss fights being underwhelming to players. Like um did you want to beat the game or not? I don't really care if a boss is hard or easy. I mean I don't like pulling hairs over a boss I can't beat. If others do well to each their own.

It's kind of ironic. This theme makes me think of NFL or something, and I hate NFL (which kind of ruins this song at times) and I guess that kind of fits Elpizo's attitude even though you would not think so at first glance.

sigurdtheblue Elpizo is that kind of character that starts as seemingly well meaning and kindhearted, but after suddenly obtaining an enormous (and undeserved) amount of power reveals his true dark colors. At the end even when he tries to justify his actions with all that "It's for the good of the reploids!" crap (a classic "common good" self righteous excuse used by narcissists to harm or take power over others lives), his megalomania was the only reason behind them.

+Sextus70 That's not quite it, honestly. Elpizo really thought he knew what he was doing with Righteous Strike. Elpizo, who was already insecure about what other people thought of him was trying to be held in the same regard as Zero, and never quite measuring up. He eas appointed resostance leader, but that only made him cocky. When Righteous Strike failed, it failed spectacularly,and he suffered a breakdown. He sought strength no matter the cost, rationalizing that he was the hero, and that Zero was a has-been. In the end, he really was weak, but he was definotely resourceful, achieving his ambitions, but failing to measure up to Zero.

Christian Woolsey His main weakness and the reason because he would never measure up to Zero was precisely that inferiority complex. Like you say, he was definitely not a fool, but his narcissism blinded and leaded him to his own fall.
