Hello love this program! I’ve had small artery Polly Neuropathy progressive for 30 years. I’ve tried every diet known to man. In January I purchased the doctors book about fasting and took a chance. It’s now July and I’ve had 75% less pain and I’ve had some feeling back in my feet. This to me has been a miracle. I follow 8/16 fasting I now some days fast for 20 hours I’m not hungry! I recently went for my 6 month check up and every one of my labs are perfect and cutting back on my blood pressure meds. I’ve proven to myself that I can get my health back with diet and fasting. I eat no sugars and no processed foods. Thank you 😊 and by the way I’ve lost 38 pounds.

Never went to a Dr. for any kind of program, but can confirm that fasting combined with eating a healthy low carb (not even keto) diet flat out works. Myself (42yo male, 6'2" or 188cm), Feb '18 = 228lbs/103kgs. Today 8/23 = 174lbs/79kgs and been here for well over a month. I fast 20-22 hours at least 5 days a week and 16-8 the other days. I did change what I ate quite drastically too. I stopped nearly all consumption of bread, pasta, white potatoes, rice, grains, and sugar. I drastically increased the veggies I eat and the amount of fat as well. Now that's I've lost over 50lbs and am in a bit more of a state of maintenance I starting eating small portions of potatoes and rice again because I like them :) I will concede that the change in diet alone would have probably gotten me the sameish weight loss as this combined with fasting, BUT I don't believe for a second my body would have changed like it did. I work out with light/moderate weights maybe an hour to an hour and a half a week. I've got muscles like I did when I was in my 20's and religiously worked out heavy 3x's a week. I'm even starting to see my ab's which has NEVER happened before. I went from a 36" waist where the button was severely overworked to needing to buy pants again because the 34" waist jeans I bought when I was about 190lbs are falling off. I love intermittent fasting. I've always been a habitual over eater/stress eater. Now that I'm eating healthy food only once a day for the most part I can satiate those urges and still be in a state of caloric restriction/caloric maintenance and be happy with the way I look and feel every single day. I'll never go back to eating like a "normal" person.

Started keto and intermittent fasting immediately after. I was only on keto three days. The first night was a little difficult always wanting to reach for peanuts unconsciously or something like that. The second night I wasn’t really hungry but I still was thinking about snacks. By the third night I didn’t even think about it anymore I just wasn’t hungry. It’s been three weeks now I feel great lost about 10 pounds and buy less food. I’m completely astonished that once I finish my meal at 6 PM I’m done until 10 or 12 o’clock the next day without struggling at all. I also do my morning exercises on fast sometimes with a cup of coffee sometimes just water. By the way I do the 16/8 fast sometimes 18/6. P.S. I had a mole growing on my face for the last 25 years. Started as a small dot, grew to about a half inch in diameter. I was thinking of having it removed this year because I had a similar one on the other side and the doctor removed it. A week and a half and to Keto noticed it was flaky and drying up. It’s completely gone now just a little red patch where it was. So what I’m thinking is 25 years it was growing because of excess carbs I’ve been eating and all the glucose they produce. So maybe this way of eating is beneficial for keeping tumors at bay as they say.

@@wgjung1 - that’s also how greed works. When three Harvard researchers are paid off by the sugar industry to say that the problem is cholesterol/saturated fat instead of sugar, and when one of those Harvard researchers then goes to head an organization (forget which one) that helps educate Americans about what to eat, it should be considered criminal. Apparently, capitalism means caring more about money than anything else, which is pretty sad. Of course, we’re seeing a lot of it nowadays.

I always learn great stuff from Megan. I have a question, and I truly do not mean to be disrespectful with it. Megan, is there a reason why you seem to be gasping for air at all times? It exhausts me to listen to you. In fact, I often have to listen to you in small snippets of 15 minutes or so and listen to someone else in between. I come back to finish yours - because I don't want to miss anything. If you have asthma or something like that, then kudos to you for being able to give such informative speeches in spite of it. If you are gasping because you're nervous - please know that we all love you to pieces and appreciate your knowledge and there is no reason for you to be nervous. If you're in a hurry, I would ask that you try to find the balance between being efficient in your speaking and being calm enough so that your audience (I know I'm only speaking for myself here) can relax and enjoy what you have to say. Thanks for everything. :-)

I didn't have this information when I began, and while I'm grateful (I learned a *lot* from this video), I'm also confused, specifically about not fasting patients with CHF. I had barely recovered from a bad bout of CHF when I began my first fast. The lowered insulin caused a huge loss of sodium and fluid, and in just a few days, my feet and legs shrunk, my neuropathy reversed, and I could walk without a cane for the first time in years. As you might imagine, this made me rather gung-ho to continue. The CHF in my chest resolved rapidly too; never again did I have to sleep in a chair. While it started immediately shrinking, I had numerous bra sizes due to CHF, but within six months none fit and I had to measure: my chest measurement had gone down by 12 inches. While I'm *very* grateful for much I've learned in this video, I'm also grateful that I *didn't* know CHF patients weren't supposed to fast - and still don't understand why. I can't see the risk involved in discarding a bunch of excess fluid and sodium?

I can't be bothered to monitor what I eat (keto) so I just went with a straight up 3-4 day fast. I intend to do at least 2 or 3 days a week, but I just started (3rd week) so I still need to get used to it. Was definitely feeling hungry the first 2-3 days of the 2 fasts I've done, but it seems to be getting easier.
@bidnow29466 жыл бұрын
Very good and well done. Fasting and the definition of "adequate protein intake" remain the two large controversies for keto today. The community "needs" some simple visual guidance or computer application about what fasting duration might be optimal for their condition(s) as well as what protein intake (in grams). Any good programmers seeking a multivariate programming challenge have at it. How this can be done while using legitimate medical and scientific studies without entering into the sphere of actual medical advice and concerns about monetizing are also challenges.

I had an ad on Facebook jump out at me: Eat Like a Bear group, founded by Amanda Rose. I have used low carb many years ago and was one foot in and one foot out on low carb currently. It wasn't an effective food plan now. The ELAB group incorporates Intermittent Fasting along with the low carb and keto focused approach. I was feeding low carb, 6 times a day. Wow- way too many feeding sessions. Both myself and my husband responded very well to this plan. (Intermittent Fasting) I like data and people in the Bear group suggested to follow Dr. Jason Fung and Megan Ramos. The great support in a group community setting coupled with this great foundation of real time medical information is awesome. My husband was on the cliff to have gastro surgery. Well- he has lost enough weight to not be in that consideration any longer. In 6 weeks of One Meal a Day: 23:1 One hour to feed and 23 hours to fast.

I know several who have come off of insulin and stabiize their HBA1c (as well as loss of weight) Also know arthritic patients who are now keto and have normal hand joints now after 2 years or so of keto( less than 50 mg of carbs) with intermittant fasting. Easy to do as all cravings go away after 3-6 weeks. Oh, also return of hearing., less depression.. so many miracles all from avoiding modern foods that we were not evolved for anyway. Veggies, good oils, happy meats, almonds, maccadamia nuts , fish, krill oil x 4000mg per day. extra vrigin olive oil and 2 avodcados every day... Miraculous. thank you for showing us the way. Dr. Mercola and Mark Sisson's web sites, or Noakes foundation, all have helpful info on how to eat too, how to move. ( and only sprint exercise tabata type of 6 x 8-30 seconds , but only one time per week (easiest to just rush up a hill and walk down slow with a 2 minute rest if you wish)and thenalso enjoy moving 4-6 hours of 180 minus your age .Yes, enjoyment of movement. Remember that no amount of type of exercise will compensate for eating modern foods. Good luck. Do a 21 day elimination diet and snack on nuts and hard goat cheese. Try Naked goat whey protein for protein up to 30% of your total protein of 1 gm per healthy eventual kg weight. ( add in olive oil and green leafies so reduce insulin response) AND, I hope you are encouraged to join this . Note: This is not meant as a replacement for medical advice, so do not follow any of this until you check with your MD. i do hope this encourages you to live this lifestyle ! In gratitude to Jason Fung for his great work.Thank you.

I believe that fasting, although not dangerous is most certainly causing muscle loss. Any time you rob your body of building blocks if needs, you will cause a reduction of that building block. I'm not saying that fasting does not work. The evidence is certainly clear that fasting does help people with metabolic problems improve those problems. If you quit drinking water, your water level in your body goes down. If you quit breathing, your oxygen level goes down. If you don't eat protein, it certainly goes down to after fasting a certain amount of time. The body needs to consume protein to be healthy. This is a fact, and nobody disputes this. Now if you don't eat protein, you body still needs it, and I has to break down lean body tissue to get it. What Dr Phinney said was exactly that. He clearly stated that the study that Dr Fung and others used to prove that fasting does not cause tissue loss was misinterpreted. I believe him. I also believe that losing lean body mass and muscle is not a good idea. Muscle burns energy, and causes increased resting metabolism. It's good to have. A lot of us low carbers have been criticizing Dr Phinney. Let's take a look at Dr Fung and Dr Phinney's background. Dr Fung is a medical doctor who specializes in kidneys. He is very smart, but what is he known for? Like everybody else, when I hear the name Jason Fung, the only thing that comes to mind is fasting. Fung is the number 1 expert of fasting, at least popularity wise. Dr Fung is also an author, and I assume he makes good money at it. If somebody like Dr Phinney comes around and makes fasting look a little bad, Jason Fung probably loses income. Fung pushes fasting to the level where he has convinced everybody that there is no downside at all to it. I guess it's possible he could be correct. Dr Stephen Phinney is also a low carber, but besides being a medical doctor, Phinney is a research scientist with a doctorate in nutritional biochemistry and metabolism. He has published over 70 papers and written four books. Not many people have the scientific pedigree of Dr Phinney. When he made is low carb speech about the double edged sword of fasting, he did so knowing that he would be criticized. He spoke to warn people of the downside of fasting. As part of his work as a research scientist, Dr Phinney would test endurance athletes in his lab by taking samples of athletes who performed on low carbohydrate diets. He met Jeff Volek and started doing it again. Dr. Phinney is an expert scientist, and knows exactly what he's doing. That doesn't necessarily means he's correct, but if you criticize him, you better be willing to back it up. Now Dr Fung and Megan Ramos are excellent researchers and intelligent people, but Dr Phinney is in a class by himself when it comes to being a scientist. Dr Phinney is still on the cutting edge of low carb performance and metabolism. Phinney is much more believable to me, plus his argument is more logical, and he is not trying to convince us of something to sell books. I'm not saying not to fast, I'm just saying that if you do, be prepared to lose muscle. When somebody as established, intelligent, experienced and knowledgeable as Dr Phinney tells you something, there is a good chance he knows what he's talking about...

Fair comment. If you look at the Fung talk at the same conference he uses two charts. One showing a drop but continued daily protein metabolism kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnrYm2ClgrNgfM0 and another showing the deep drop in urea excretion (a proxy for protein metabolism) after a few days of fasting. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnrYm2ClgrNgfM0 Most of that protein metabolism comes from recycling of old amino acids (autophagy). I think you are correct that if the fast is extended for many days without protein supplementation there will be some catabolism but for short multi day fasts it is insignificant, at least that is my personal experience. Fasting really is protein sparing as much as possible. In addition, breaking the fast causes a steep increase in HGH, somewhat compensating for any loses. The Cahill, Hall, and Phinney subjects tend to not be obese so have a greater need for gluconeogenesis from protein (muscle wasting) for any needed glucose after exhaustion of glycogen. Those with large fat stores can strip out the glycerol from triglycerides for much of any needed glucose provided by the gluconeogenesis pathway. See also 40:52 for Ramos' comment on the difference in lean body mass between fasted and non-fasted group in an alternate day fasting study.

How can someone get help with this fasting program. I’ve already started 24 hr. fasting. I discussed this with my doctor and she’s all for the ketogenic diet but not so much with the fasting since I’m a type 2 diabetic. Is there a listing of doctors that support fasting with diabetes. I’ve got to try this. I’m going to reduce my sugar medication as my numbers get lower. I’ve read Dr. Yung’s book “The Diabetes Code” and learned a lot. Thanks for putting this video together. It opened my eyes to a lot of new information.

Maybe Dr. Fung can consult with you over the phone or some sort of facetime online?

I use Ultima Replenisher, it has all needed electrolytes. I emailed the company and they recommended 2 servings daily during my 72 hour fasts.
