I gave my daughter-in-law a stocking stuffer one year: a card saying that I would come and take care of the kids one day or morning each week, so that she could have a break. Sometimes she would do errands or go to the library, or stay home in her room with the door closed. It benefited her, the kids, and me! Idea for other grandmas.

Me too. I am 65 years old and was raised by a single mom and I feel like I missed out on so much having a working mom. She didn’t have time for most of what these SAHMs do for their families. I raised my kids and did all the things that I missed out on.

When my now grown up men were little I would regularly take a “Starbucks break” IN MY OWN kitchen! They both knew I needed a little break from questions, locating lost legos…they would grant me these 15 minutes with my coffee in my kitchen…it was a “great room so I was really with them in the same room but It was “mom’s Starbucks time…nice music a good cup of coffee and I felt like a million bucks! They also learned that moms have feelings too and we all need a little time to ourselves. 🤗

My husband and I have been talking about this a lot too. We've struggled with overwhelm from running our coffee shop through these last few crazy years working from 6am to 9pm daily only taking Sundays off. Now both our cars broke down, our furnace went out, leak in our roof, our fridge broke, our vacuum and shampooer died, and we had 4 weeks of bronchitis that really threw us behind all since January. But we were talking about how we can either choose to complain or choose to look at the beauty of God helping us through these hard days. Our kids Sunday school teacher was asking everyone what they were thankful for and our 4th daughter told them that she was thankful her dad's car broke down because now she gets to see him more when we drive him to work. I love that she was thinking about the challenges in our life right now in a positive way. We can either choose to be miserable, or choose to be thankful and see the sunny side of things.

Even though I no longer have little children in the house, at 63 yrs old I have a husband not in the greatest of health that I provide a lot of care for so this video spoke loudly to me. I started doing all of this in many ways about a month ago and can say even us older folks can and do benefit greatly from it :). We all need to take care of ourselves as best we can and little ways are often the best and easiest. Also, none of what you said sounded dumb at all. No matter how small a thing or action is, it is absolutely self care & absolutely important ❤️. ONe of my favorite things to do is no matter what I’m eating (even a snack) I love to make it an event, lol. Maybe a favorite plate, even a fancy paper plate or napkin, plate the food in a pretty way, etc…use a placemat that gives me joy..all the details! I promise you, whatever the food is it will taste even better and make you feel special, lol. PS: love your water idea!

Love this video! My hobbies as a mom include taking care of my plants, finding and bringing in a new plant, making succulent arrangements (when my plants are neglected I'm usually stretched too thin lol). I also have a few essential oil diffusers around the house and I enjoy playing with different scents. One of my favorite for spring is lime and vanilla. I love to read and journal, but those don't always happen as often as I like. I'm teaching my daughters how they can journal and have a prayer journal so it's nice to do that together. :)

I worked from home full time then and homeschooled (still doing this). I wish I could've slowed down and enjoyed it more. A quote I heard that struck a cord with me was, "The days are long, but the years are short." That's the truth! I need this so bad! I had this glamorous romantized idea of motherhood, and then I had kids. Three years in and our lives went to heck in a hand basket with all kinds of mental health, physical health, and job crap. Still haven't recovered almost 2 years later, just one thing after the other. There's so much I want to do for myself, the kids, the house, and I feel trapped due to various reasons. I knew I needed to do something, decluttering and finally getting my husband to join in that effort has helped, but there is soo much more that can be done. My main hobby is crocheting, and even that lately has been dull because I'm just doing dull stash buster projects. Then, I had an idea for a different bag. I had the concept of use for a while, but not how to do it. I finally saw how to do it while I thought I was making something else. I have the stuff to make a rag rug, but can't seem to make the time and justify the mess to actually make progress on that project. I would love to do jigsaw puzzles again. Space is the primary issue there. And losing pieces thanks to the 4 yr old and almost 1 year old.

There’s definitely a version of “Mom mud” for those who work outside the home full time. The time at home, in my situation at least, is very limited and it can be hard to fit in some relaxing time and hobbies. As a mom, I don’t have to give myself the last or skimp on letting myself enjoy things…it doesn’t earn me some sort of extra points. And by golly, I’m sure I’m a better mom when I do fun things for myself and feel happiness because of them. Thanks for this video!

I want to start some weight lifting. And now that it is getting warmer, I want to begin jogging also. I love to hike. So that is my exercise portions. My crafts include making junk journals, embroidery, quilting and crocheting. I like to make gifts for my family members so they are more personal and gives me something fun to do. I also like to travel (right now in Canada) and I arrange day visits with my friends who live further away, about an hours drive. I would love to hear about Mom hobbies too! A friend of mine who has 9 kids asked me if I had any hobbies when we first met and I could only hear crickets chirping as I wondered why I didn’t have any personal hobbies anymore. 🤷‍♀️ Blessings to her for asking me though! It inspired me to revisit learning to play the piano-but it’s difficult to find the time. Very curious about other hobbies out there!

One suggestion about plants that I had to learn the hard way is if you move them too much and into the wrong lighting that will shock them and cause them to lose leaves. As for hobbies, I garden. The soil is so therapeutic and reminds me of how the Lord is so creative. I like painting and crocheting, cooking and all things creative. I involve my 2 and half year old and will be bringing my 6 month old as much as I can. One thing I REALLY struggle with is organizing and getting rid of things. My husband, our children and I live in an apartment with limited storage space and I have to get creative especially on a budget. Thanks for your videos!

I LOVE this topic and advice... Especially the water jug lol, it may seem crazy to other people but having pretty stuff out just makes you feel better when you are at home all the time. I have two boys and we homeschool so any real advice on things to make life not feel so bogged down is helpful. I like that you are real and you don't try to sugar coat it, because sometimes our lifestyle gets mundane and it makes you feel a little bit worthless (I know we aren't) or like you aren't doing enough. It's nice to see other women doing the same thing but talking about the real aspects of day to day life, I love when I see a kid running around or hear them... Lol I only have two and I don't know that there is a time during the day that I could make a video and you wouldn't hear them. Thank you so much for all of your content!! You are doing a great job!

I was thinking about this kind of thing a couple days ago! I love my husband and children, but I find myself not really enjoying being a wife and mother sometimes. I was praying about wanting to ENJOY it, not seeking a perfect, flawless life, but just really wanting to enjoy all seasons and emotions of life as a wife and motherhood fully. 💜 That lead me to think about things that I could do to make the mundane more enjoyable, so I really appreciated your video today... perfect timing!💜 Enjoying a nice bath is definitely a must for me.🥰 I like to keep some fresh flowers or grasses in a pretty vase by my kitchen sink. A bubble bath is a for sure luxury! The best feeling is a shower from head to toe, fresh clean hair, shaving, and having clean sheets to go to bed in but all of those things rarely happens at the same time anymore. It is the smallest things that can help our mood and our day more enjoyable. I feel like social media does not portray motherhood truthfully and your honesty is reassuring! Day to day life is messy for most SAHMs. Cleaning, housework, cooking, dishes, laundry, yard work, raising little humans, and sometimes we are doing and giving so much we forget about ourselves in the midst of it all.

Anyway, as far as hobbies go, I personally have found that I won’t take the time for them if I don’t feel that they’re bettering my life either spiritually or intellectually. So, Bible study at church, reading, listening to podcasts, watching KZbin videos that I’ve saved in my Watch List or from channels that I’m subscribed to… those are my main hobbies! I have been getting into natural, nontoxic, and sustainable living lately and that has been great for me because it feels intellectually stimulating as well as a huge health and economical benefit for my family. :)

I avoid the news as good as I can, I will read the paper online but I will not watch them on TV or listen to them on the radio. Means I read, because I want to be informed, at a time I chose and not thrown at me every 30 mins or hour. My hobbies are sewing and choir singing. No matter what your mood is and how stressed you are at the start of the choir practice, 1,5 hours later you feel elevated.

I also really enjoy just hopping in the car and heading with no direction in mind to see what new to me towns I can find and see if they have some fun local stores, coffee shops, or museums telling their town history. I garden as a hobby. I can stop and start easily if the kids need something, they can help me, they learn from it, we get sunshine and fresh air and I do some of my best thinking in the evening in my garden. I also take my coffee break quietly everyday. The kids know for 30 minutes in the afternoon they're going to play quietly, eat their snack, play or something else quietly while I just sit. If mom isn't in a good place then she can't mother her best. It's important that moms remember they're people too and have needs and interests.

It’s a brain thing! Totally have to stop myself and give to God when things pile and I just can’t. I can’t homeschool and meal plan, grocery hunt and keep a budget and house chores 🤪 I struggle mentally to keep my cool with my young boys running/fighting and saying “mom look!” all day long! When I feel overwhelmed Yes most definitely a bath 🛀 resets my attitude as I take time and pour it all out to God. No serving anyone, or fixing anything. Its lame but I look forward to 20 mins away from my kiddos. It’s very hard to be a mom but it’s the hardest job I will ever love 💕. Hey Megan! I've so enjoyed your videos as a SAHM to a toddler and baby on the way myself. It has been so encouraging to see and hear you uplift and take pride in motherhood while also being real about the struggles and battles that moms face. As John MacArthur said in one of his sermons, raising children is the greatest blessing God can give us but also one of the greatest responsibilities. I have really enjoyed adding similar everyday joys--special coffee/meals for just me or my husband and I, going out on walks with my toddler, early morning coffee and Bible reading time, sewing/letter writing during naptime, gardening, etc. And, yes, I LOVE my planner and seeing for myself all that God enabled me to do that day. Great tips! I am a wife and homeschooling mom of two girls and enjoyed these reminders. My favorite hobbies are watercolor painting and playing little instruments that are just for fun. Thanks to KZbin, I've learned to play the ukulele and kalimba over the past couple years. They were only about $20 each, so not a huge investment. We live out in the country so I love to sit outside and play an instrument or paint at my patio table while my kids run around with their friends who live next door, chickens, cats, and goats all around. And in those moments I slow down and remind myself this is literally the life I dreamed of. It's not perfect, but it's beautiful.
