I'm a former paramedic and wasn't taught anything about menopause but got the best lesson from an emergency room nurse. She said if a middle age woman has a new onset of psychiatric problems, she needs hormones not anti psychotics. After suffering with a magnitude of issues starting in perimenopause, I started HRT about six weeks ago a feel fabulous! It took me eight years to follow Jan the ER RN's advice!

I had a terrible menopause transition and my obgyn was worse than useless so I appreciate Dr. Haver! I have to wonder how much this time of life is made worse by our culture’s overt hatred of women, especially those of us that dare to age past childbearing years.

I share your sentiment and agree 100%! I need a FEMALE dr like THIS 👆! 63, Hystorectomy at 33 still with my ovaries. NO dr ever spoke of HRT! I had such a shock when I came across her podcasts and shorts! So much we have been deprived of. I was scared sh.t.less of HRT... Scared to pick up weight! How silly... at age 63 still having hot flashes and I now use Kaster oil at night... massaging it on my tummy and drops in my navel... the best sleep EVER... AS IF I HAD a SLEEPING TABLET (which I never did). We need female dr's like her in every city/town! We only know sausage machines. They watch the clock... 15, 20 minutes and your out the door!! No time to discuss options or ask questions! Youbppp in and you pop out 😥

I’ve been screaming this since I started going through this about 4 years ago. I had a nurse practitioner hook me up with these supplements called bonifide and they helped at first but then stopped and I was told by the company I could up my dose and that helped, then stopped. I started taking some from GNC and they helped but were so expensive and they didn’t come with very many. I tried to get what was in the supplements individually but that didn’t work and broke out with eczema! I tried going back to the ones from GNC but they didn’t seem to work anymore. So now I’m on the amberen or whatever it’s called. They work about 20% of the time. I told my sister, if I’m ever in a coma or something, wax my face! If she doesn’t, I will have a full beard and no one, including myself, will know who I am!! My hair is coming out on my face instead of my head! I’m going to have to do something! I eat the parfait she talks about but not using the seeds she talked about. Flax is supposed to be bad for my digestive system as I have diverticulosis. Yay!! So I may have to just do the others and supplement the omega 3s. I do take one but I’ve just started. I take so many things. I guess that’s one way to get my water intake. Sorry this was so long. This seems to be another problem. I just feel we have been cheated in womens health! Once you’ve past a certain age, you are invisible. Everyone is just waiting for you to die but not before you cook and clean for them!

I hate going to the gynecologist in menopause because I get no suggestions for the muscle fatigue, lethargy, and leg cramps. She just says I am aging and I should take vitamin D. That is all I get.

I complained about my menopause symptoms to my primary care doctor and they offered an anti-depressant and a sleeping pill which I rejected. It was a pretty disappointing and ultimately pointless conversation in terms of getting actual help.

I have been on HRT pellets and every time my endometrial lining thickened beyond the point of acceptable, I bled daily and I ended up having to have a D&C. I assumed I was not a candidate anymore for HRT & bummed out because in many ways it was beneficial. I am changing docs and going to see one who focuses on menopausal health, so hopefully she will have an answer for me 🤓

Dr. Haver, I have a question for you. I’m 39 y/o female with two children and a busy life. My doctor is testing my hormones but he stated that he seriously doubts anything is in imbalance. My periods have been heavy for the past 5 years, acne has gotten horrible around jawline, energy levels have seriously dropped off. What do I do if the blood test reveals “normal” hormone levels? Find another doc or pursue something like pregnenolone? Thanks for all the info you put out into the world. It’s super helpful for women searching for answers!

Im in uk and my gp says i should come off hrt as i have no need for it now, the policy here is not to use hrt as prevention she says. So im meeting her to discuss. Bottom line is its very confusing for the international audience when you have international differences in standards never mind differences in practice. Its actually damaging the profession because there is so much disagreement. The patient feels confused. I have to go to pubmed and read, heck why didnt I go to medical school. British women are very lucky in that we have free care at point of need, but try asking for a dexa scan unless you have a 'need'. The nhs doesnt always reflect for better or eirse the US approach. Policy has to have national efficacy. Lots of these videos are just not reflective of the international scene. I appreciate you cant advise the whole world. I thought id add this in case any other women feel this when watching. I guess im lucky in that i dont have to worry about cost abd healthcare so i should be quiet

I'm sorry they're saying you have no need for HRT anymore. I know there are many online companies you can buy them from. Do you know if they're available in the U.K.? I'm sorry I've forgotten the name of them but it would be easy to Google. Good luck to you.

Biology is not a matter of national policy. Estrogen loss causes heart disease, Alzheimer's, and osteoporosis, all over the world. Pay for your own dexa scan.

My GP wouldn't put me on hrt again because the first time round my migraines started again and bleeding... turns out that I suffered for another 9 years for no reason. I went private and got prescribed a Gel this time. No migraine and no bleeding. Just need to figure out what form of hrt works and what dosage. gps do not know enough to prescribe properly. Unfortunately not everyone can afford a private appointment... mine cost 250 pounds and 100 for 3 months worth of prescription

Have you heard about the HRT Club? It’s a mail order membership and pharmacy for HRT. I’m having trouble getting my insurance to pay for my Patch and Progesterone is always in short supply from the manufacturer. Curious what you think?

My Insurance does not cover progesterone so my doc prescribed norethindrone 0.35mg tablet which only has progesterone. Wanted to know your thoughts on that?? I’m also starting Estrodial patch. I have endometriosis. Had a Hysterectomy in 2012 and an ovary removed in 2017. In perimenopause now.

HELP PLEASE!!! I’m post menopausal & have many issues but the worst is vaginal dryness, thinning of the vaginal skin & bladder incontinence. I had surgery to tighten the pelvic floor muscles & to lift my bladder but I still can’t hold my urine. I’m on Estrodil 2mg per day but I feel I need a higher dose or something! Any suggestions? Should I ask about progesterone?

I would ask your doctor about vaginal estrogen in addition to the systemic estrogen.

These types of symptoms can be signs of genitourinary symptoms of menopause. The gold standard of care for that is vaginal estradiol cream. It is localized and safe to use in combination with systemic HRT. ~ XO Community Support Team
