This is great! I've wanted to make a "bean bag" like this for a very long time. The other tutorial I have saved is a baseball-type pattern for a more rounded edge. That pattern didn't have any corners. But I'm glad you covered that in this video because I could never understand why we had to worry about that last 1/2". You give such clear direction! Love it! I think I might make a "liner" out of muslin to keep the filling in and then you can leave the zipper open, and just wash the cover without having to empty it. . So cute! Thanks for sharing.

Yep you could totally do that! You may still need to take out some of the stuffing to get the muslin out of the main portion, but it would help I'm sure!

This video was great! Just what I needed to sew my own poufs for four kids. I'm also going to make an inner casing so I can more easily launder the outer cover. I love bull denim since it's just about impossible to wear out, so that will be my outer cover. Inside cover can be any old fabric swatches or old sheeting that I have on hand. I used old IKEA cotton drapes as the inner casings for my slipcovered sofa seat cushions, for example. Thanks for taking the time to showcase your sewing technique. Makes it sew easy!

I love your pouf!! I have made lots of bean bags, but this will be a great additional to the living room to prop feet up, etc. I will make it with a muslin bag to contain all of the beads, like I do for my bean bag chairs. As long as the zipper is the same length as one of the sides, it should be fairly easy to stuff back in after washing, etc. Love it! Thanks for a great tutorial! :)

The video is easy to follow. One question, how do you wash it if it gets dirty? There is no inner layer. The pouf is stuffed with shredded foam and bean bag fillers. It will be very messy to take them out to wash the cover.

I'm making a pouf cover from faux suede (it's the very first one I've done) and I'm having problems with attaching the top to the sides. Do I stop at each corner or continue on? As it's a different fabric I thought there may be a different method of doing this?

Others here have mentioned they made two covers, an inner and outer which I think is a great idea.

An alternative to recovering it with a zipper is to make a bottomless cover with using elastic around the bottom of it. You would have to make it a couple of inches taller to compensate for it it not having flat tops and flat bottoms. Mine expanded 4 inches, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. Works great with a rocking chair, The otterman moves back and forth with you as you rock away when resting your feet on the ottorman... Scotch Guarding mine.

Look in the fabric shop for the curtain material, or sofa pillow fabric...heavier and more durable..stain resistant usually..so wipe off spills.

I love this! I've been seeing these at target for $60-$75 for a couple of years but this looks easy enough for even me (who knows how to use a sewing machine just enough to sew ribbons onto cloth diapers/burp cloths) Do you know the original dimensions of your throw blanket? I think most are typically 50" by 60"

It was close to that, mine was a little longer than 60 inches, it was definitely more rectangular. This cost me about $45. The most expensive part is the stuffing ;)

You could make a second one out of an old sheet or something without a zipper. Then stuff and put it in the outer one that way you can just unzip the cover and wash that.

Beautiful. I loved how you sewed the corners as that made such a neat and tidy job. I would have cut the bottom panel in half (after adding extra for seam allowance) and put the zip in the middle of the bottom. Would have been easier than trying to have it in the corners.
