I know a lot of people are trying to recover from eating disorders...in this day and age, disordered eating is more common than ever! I have this in the title so those people can stumble up on this series as I'm mostly making it for other people like me who need to constantly work hard to mentally stay on track. Recovery isn't a linear thing, it's something you need to work at every day of your life...there are ups and downs! But it is so worth doing everything you can to learn to eat "normally" and to listen to your body. I'm not saying you should eat what I eat, at ALL, you guys know that, but I think I have a very healthy relationship with food and exercise now and sharing that actually keeps me in that headspace. Making videos is like part of my therapy at this stage :) Let me know where you are at with food in the comments below! And if you enjoyed this video, tell me why! xxx

I don't have an eating disorder, but have had challenges with healthy eating and body image over the years. I think these videos are great for everyone. They give me inspiration and new ideas 👍

I love food and I'm amazed and proud of you Melanie for being a guiding light for people! You have such a gentle strength about you, and you seem so comfortable being you! We all have our " something" that we struggle with and its awesome to beable to share those experiences and to see people, like you, that can also show that its possible to overcome!!

I find that sometimes when youtubers do a FDOE it is so unrealistic and encourages disordered habits. You are always so thoughtful with your language and present a really normal relationship with food. I can not begin to explain how refreshing it is to not watch a video that revolves around rigid meal prep or a super vigorous workout routine. You seem really happy with where you are and that is the most important thing! I hope you continue to find joy in eating a variety of foods and moving in a way that makes you feel good. Love watching your videos and wish you nothing but happiness.

YESSSS! Melanie we have missed your food diary fridays! Could you please make these regularly again? I think many of us really benefit from them. Seeing you act so normally around food is so refreshing to see on youtube, especially when many other food videos are related to either restricting or stuffing your face silly. And omg i am just getting into weight training as well and I love it too!! 💪

Love it Mel :) x and thank you for the little recipe at the end! It's getting warm where I am now, but in winter my go-to was an almond milk hot chocolate which was surprisingly amazing! Just almond (the amount of your cup), 1-2 tbsp cocoa powder, 1-2 tbsp maple syrup and little vanilla. Love thick and dark hot chocolates, they're the best!

You are beautiful!! Love “what I ate” videos! I was interested in your gym workout also, although I noticed you are dipping deep in your squats which is bad for your back. I’ve been watching a couple of PT’s on KZbin and that is something they’ve said to watch out for. :-). Keep being awesome!

You’re eating enough to build muscle, but you aren’t eating enough to grow. Right now you’re likely just changing your body composition- what fat you have will be replaced by muscle. Eating like this you’ll look the same, be the same size, just firmer and more defined. :) If you want to lose fat while maintaining muscle mass, id suggest increasing your protein and decreasing your processed sugar. Honestly, high protein is the way to go.

Amy G eating high protein means you have to lowe either carbs or lipids which is not okay if you do it a long time, also an exces of protein in the long and short run will fuck up your kidney

Looking forward to your overall thoughts on Turtles All The Way Down. I just finished it. I liked it - though not as good as your book!! ;) I love black coffees with my cats :) Can definitely second the sports bra advice. I went for a run the other day without one and WOW were my boobs sore for days afterwards.

Melanie... I can't tell you how much I appreciate you! I've been really struggling with food recently, I lost 34lbs in 4 months (I'm 15). There's something about the scales, every time I stand on them, I either feel a sense of achievement or dread. Every pound lost makes me feel good, every .1 of a pound gained makes me feel shit so I don't eat much and weigh myself the next morning- 1 pound lost. I know it's not healthy but I can't stop and your videos are what are helping me realise, I CAN have potatoes, I CAN have bread and I CAN have pasta. But then when I go to cook or have any of those things, I read the packet and put it down because it has "too many calories". I know this voice telling me what I can and can't have isn't normal. I see people in my school eating pizza and ice cream all the time - they don't care. I'm slowly learning that balance is the way to go. My mum does keto (low carb) so my evening meals are higher in fat and low in everything else so I don't eat carbs like bread or pasta out of choice because then I feel like I'm eating too much fat AND too many carbs. I can't balance! I need a push, I know I do but I don't want to be 'babied' into eating more. I know you probably not going to read all of this because you're busy and this is an old video but I have faith in your videos that one day I'll be like you and get over the scales and get over the fear of having one slice of pizza or one chocolate because I don't want to binge. I went to Wagamama yesterday for lunch and I ordered the Pad Thai salad, I don't know if thats what I wanted or if I just ordered it because of the low amount of calories, I didn't have the dressing or peanuts because I don't like dressings and have this weird fear that oil will make me fatter. It was really good though, I really wanted the chicken cats curry but have you seen the nutrition for that! nearly 1200 calories in one meal!? I think not... I'm having dominos tomorrow with my friends and I keep convincing myself its okay to eat it, Wednesday is weigh day so its also 'cheat day' but usually that means if I have treats I eat them in the evening hoping I won't binge (meaning maybe 2 slices of pizza and maybe a chocolate but I let my friends choose the chocolate while I say "I'll eat whatever" then they don't pick my faves so I don't eat them). It's not like I'm uneducated, I know what can happen if you lose too much weight too quickly or if you eat too much of one thing etc. etc. but I can't help it. Thanks Melanie, you're genuinely making me feel more positive about my life and my self esteem, love and hugs, keep doing what you're doing 💓💓💓

I'm new to this channel so forgive me if you've answered this already but how do you stay mentally healthy if you physically cannot exercise for a short amount of time (due to say a deadline or a physical injury)?

Just wanted to say your videos really help me to slowly thinking more positive and more balanced. I also have issues with food, when Im on a diet I quickly get obsessive and when I'm not i get out of control with the amount I eat. So you help me think of the balance I actually need.. Plus you're beautiful and I love your hair hahaha.

Was Paris already a month ago? Jayzus I STILL haven't gotten your book in the mail yet! It's 6 weeks passed the expected delivery. Could've waited for the Canadian release by this point. Stupid Amazon. :( OMFG that couch in that Dawson's cafe is glorious! D'awww, Papa Murphy at the end, be still my heart Am I the only one who has never had trouble with my subscriptions not showing up? I LOVE your channel Melanie. Love how real and honest you are. You’ve helped me so much to see what it looks like to be “balanced” when it comes to eating. I’m a 30 something mum of two littles and I struggled for MANY years with an eating and exercise disorder (having babies and your body changing and all that crazy jazz). Great video. PS: While doing deadlifts, don't let your knees go inward. Push them outwards.
