Casey, I love the science, complex indeed.. I note that the melatonin dose in these animal experiments are 100s of mg in the human equivalent.. I’ve taken 100mg melatonin with no apparent side effects.. We not talking about the pineal gland and sleep here, it’s the metabolism of multiple trillions of cells in all your organs ! Hence high dose melatonin may eventually become the medical norm…except for the fact it’s a natural supplement and can’t be a ‘medication’..

When I was doing my functional medicine training, there was a Lyme and mold specialist. He talked about how these patients had been to doctor after doctor, received antibiotics or antifungals. They never really got better. However, once he improved the other aspects of health, hormones, mitochondria, gut, etc. The symptoms were not as bothersome and the patients improved without lifelong treatment. You cannot get well in the same environment in which you got sick.

I participate in an annual reunion gathering outdoors, camping on a great swimming river in the Oregon cascade range mountains. Two and a half weeks is a great addition for so many that seem to live indoors for much of their work lives. I feel that these are very intelligent people, yet appear to be so under informed about everything we are talking about here. I get asked if I want any sunscreen or sunglasses, when they notice, but they usually shake their heads when I decline, and move a bit away if I comment about why I don't use them. I think I become a bit of an 'environmental terrorist' suspect. Then, no hope for my credibility when they ask if I've had the latest 'booster' yet! I wonder if a better approach toward educating about all of our points might be more effectively done if we approach by talking about health benefits to our DOGS. I've noticed so much health concern exists for our pets, and people across society seem far more able to listen to any suggestions of health environmental precautions from veterinarians, that knee jerk reactions are reduced enough people listen far better. At what concentration does it impart these effects? Most people take 3-5 mg of melatonin, but I suspect that you need to take in excess of 100 mg to have any of these benefits. Sure, to induce sleep you need very low concentration, but for the effects mentioned in the video it may need a totally different concentration in the body
@DrCaseyPeavler3 ай бұрын
Fantastic question you raise. 100mg would be crazy supraphysiologic level. Safe but clearly supraphysiologic. These processes happen even with lower melatonin levels than ideal, so would have to assume happens at sub-therapeutic, therapeutic, and supra-physiologic levels on a dose response basis. I have not see a curve or graphic to put this hypothesis into picture format, but I will be on the lookout. I do feel confident in saying you can achieve all of these benefits from endogenous production. The question is how much are you making? Adequate sun? Infrared? Darkness?

Hoped to add it to the sun baths. Fear I will never achieve the blackout at night stuff. Too busy as co-caregiver for my terminally ill son-in-law, late grocery runs and internet research. Trying to stay alive for my 89th birthday next April 20th (Easter Sunday in 2025). Then maybe even longer. When I lived in India (late '70's) an old wizened psychic told me I would die at 87. Never remembered until well into cancer on my 87th birthday. Yikes. So 88 now but started over a year late on the alternative healing (I hope) path.
