While I see some use of a T light allowing a tram through an intersection a few seconds ahead of the traffic (especially the right-turners), I think this could be used more, particularly where there is some separation of trams and cars. A special lighting sequence could be activated by an approaching tram so that it might not have to stop at all. Some platforms might have to be relocated to the other side of the intersection, but that's an easy fix.

Your network is so big - I've only been on it once but it's really cool. In Adelaide we only have the ONE tram line and two types of trams. We are, however, getting two new trams and adding two small branch lines of the main Glenelg line.

That tram had great motors. You could really wind it out on route 72 to University down those big hills on bourke Rd and then cut the line breaker. You wouldn’t know this though because you’re too busy driving along flashing your indicators.

I think it's from it's age. It's basically a w class motor on a modern tram with a pedal. The Bombardier E class are replacing the z1s. It's basically a one for one swap.

+Schony747 It seems like a lot of the retiring Z1s and Z2s at Glenhuntly and Malvern are being replaced with Z3's, A1's and B2's from Brunswick, Essendon and Preston respectively, while Preston (currently receiving the bulk of the new Es) is sending their B2 fleet to Essendon and/or Camberwell.

The bulk of the B2 trams were supposed to go to Glenhuntly. For whatever reason this was changed and as you said other depots are getting their share. Malvern are getting Z3s and Glenhuntly will end up WI h a mix of A and B2 class. That could all change again and often does!

There is only 1, Z2 tram in existence, there once was 15, now they are all gone but 1, I forgot the number, but it is something between 101 and 115

I believe that the section track between Chapel st & St.Kilda Jct was an old railway route back in the old days???

It wasn't a railway line. I'm not 100% sure but it may have been a part of the old cable car network.

The tram section between Chapel Str and St. Kilda Junction (Queensway) was openend 1968. It was built to stop the bootleneck at old St. Kilda Junction. The tram lines in St. Kilda Road an Dandenong Road were started as a cable tram line. In the years 1925 to 1927 they were modified to a electric tram line. In this time the tram route number 5 was built with its end at Burke Road.

+Michael Cuffe It's still very common right across the Melbourne Network as the Melbourne Network is primarily a road based network. It''s a really bizarre sight for people visitng Melbourne. Some routes also have safety zones which are basically a tram stop in the middle of the road with a fence such as the ones you see on St Kilda Road. You will also see more platform stops being built around the system. These seperate the cars from passengers and are also alot safer.

Michael Cuffe that’s similar to how it works for much of the trams (the Muni) in San Francisco when they’re in the suburbs. And when they’re within the city they share the rail and platforms with the heavy rail (BART).

How do car drivers know when to stop to allow tram passengers to cross to the tram? The tram stops themselves don't seem particularly obvious. Is it just a case that, when a tram stops, car drivers have to stop?
