I just found your channel today and I'm ecstatic. I can relate with your story so much. Even your before figure is similar to mine now. In my youth, I was an amateur triathlete so after years of chronic illness, I thought I knew what I need to do to get back into shape once I was stable. So wrong. Running was not working anymore. Nothing has worked. I didn't think it was possible anymore at my age (51). I always weight trained but not to the extent I needed to, and focusing too much on cardio. I will now be focusing more on weights. I'm now just starting to get out of the starvation calorie and fasting mindset and I hope to finally be on a journey to repair my metabolism, get back what I used to have, or even better, improve on it. Thank you for being an inspiration.

I can relate to your story. I too was on limited calories and fasting with alot of cardio. I never lost any weight and felt sluggish. I have been following this channel for 5 weeks and I am eating regularly again and weight training following Melissa's training vidros. I feel great. My clothes fit better. I have lost weight. My mental health is way better all in just 5 weeks. I'm going to do 3 months then will up my dumbells weight and hit the gym. I'm also planning on joining Melissa's the strong women's club after 3 months. So glad to have found her.

I love your videos! I know you say that it’s necessary to be in a calorie deficit, but also not to drop calories too low. Can you say what the appropriate deficit would be, and the best way to calculate base calories burned? I find even when eating high protein and lots of veg, and relatively “clean,” I’m always going to be hungry unless I eat about 1750 calories a day. I used to be able to lose weight doing this, but now that I’m 42, it’s just not working.

I’ve been doing an incline treadmill walk for about 20 mins four times a week. It’s been working better for me at losing belly fat than HIIT, I am in menopause. HIIT tires me out, and I like having energy the next day for my lifting lol

@@aren8484 just doing treadmill inclining that's all it took and it helped you burn off belly fat? That sounds so much better than going for intense runs doing lots of sit-ups I can't do crunches anymore because I can't flex my spine I don't want to do HIIT training because I think at this point after everything I put my body through I need to be a little more gentle the only time I go somewhat intense is what I'm doing jumping exercises
@aren84842 жыл бұрын
@@daysoftheboo yes it’s my main type of cardio to burn fat, you do have to do at least a 9 to 12 for incline as a suggestion. This makes your body have to work to walk at am incline, and try not to hold on to the treadmill. You can walk slow and still burn lots of calories. I never go longer than 25 mins. Also, the elliptical machine gets it done for me, I do 15 mins max on the elliptical. I tried hiit for two weeks and it wore me out, I was eating in a caloric deficit of 500 calories and I eat 2200 a day. I just didn’t have the energy to lift weights for my next training session after doing hiit. I believe everyone is different so hiit does work for others, just not me lol. Also, I do my cardio after lifting.

When you engage regularly with strength training there is a good probability that there will be moments where the number on the scale doesn’t go down, but your clothing size, strength (and confidence) will. That’s the power of transforming body composition 👍🏼

All of this worked for me from the onset of menopause at 48, until this past year when I turned 55. Since then, my body composition has shifted, and no amount of strength training and high protein intake seems to help now. My weight is the same, but all of my clothes are too tight and I jiggle more. Another trainer suggested adding more HIIT and reducing my calories slightly. This seems counterintuitive, but I guess I'm going to try it and see what happens. Ugh!

One gram of protein/lbs is WAY TOO MUCH protein. It’s actually an outdated health guideline that has now been adjusted because too much protein puts an extremely high burden on your kidneys! In fact, when people are diagnosed with chronic kidney failure (CKF), they are required to keep protein intake at no more than .8 gums per KG of body weight for that reason-to reduce stress on the kidneys. As such, a person weighing 150 lbs weighs 68 KG x .8 = 54 grams. This person should consume around 54 gms of protein! Be careful not to damage your kidneys and end up on dialysis. 50-90 gms of protein is enough for most people who weigh between 150 to 250 lbs.
