Today I had a devastating malfunction with my Mellow Drive. At first, I want to say that I was a huge fan of the product! I mean somehow you have to, considering the money you put on the Table. Since the end of last year I own a 2018 model of the Mellow Drive. So all bug fixes should be done. While riding in Pro Mode, the brakes kicked in at full braking power. I just flew of the board and took a brutal slam at 36 KMH. After the slam I pushed the board away from me, and the brakes just stopped it again. To release the brakes, I had to restart the Drive. I always wear a helmet, so in this case I just remain suffering from a big hematoma on my butt and side body and some scraped skin. Fortunately it was Sunday, so there was not much traffic and no car behind me. So far I could not find any reports of similar events, but based on my experience, I would not recommend buying one of these Mellow Drives. I just wanted to let people know what happened to me with my Mellow Drive. I really have to be honest to my self and it takes me some courage to send it back because it's really such a tempting product. But I'm not psyched taking another unintentional date with the tarmac. If I slam on a normal board, most of the time I can feel or see that something will go wrong in the next second, and that's the time you need to prepare, which I didn't have. No Invisible force will suddenly rip you off your board for no reason.

1:00 what kind of ESC wouldn't automatically brake as soon as the remote got disconnected or ran out of power? Prevents accidents and sudden theft. Also to lose brakes by being dumb enough to discharge the battery below 5-10% will halve its lifespan. But if you insist draining it bet you'll be faster kick pushing or walking than using the motors. Just step off the board and carry it under your arm. Or better yet, just skate back home, that's the beauty of hub motors... when te pigs have laser eyes targeted on you you can use it as a regular skateboard. As long as you're not wearing a tshirt saying on the back: "Yes, it's electric" you should be fine. If downhill use it like any regular skateboard. carve, foot brake, powerslide... heck if trucks are wide enough use your shoes directly on back wheel.

you really don't wanna brace your fall with your hands like he did during the ninja roll.

do higher quality boards have these issues of braking not working at high speed? Terrifying...imagine this on a kaly or lacroix

Nice video! One question: do you use the brakes when powersliding? Or let go of the remote completely and just slide like you would on a regular longboard? Cheers

regular

The scenario is around if you don't have brakes to use, so this would just be sliding like you would on a regular board.

How come I can’t have a Mellow Board shipped to Canada? You’ve got potential customers here, but we’ll buy other boards I guess.

For the love of your God, don't do what I did. I got random speed wobbles and just bailed and faceplanted. I was unconscious and actually rode the board home to get help and go to the ER.

What happened to the energy being dispersed as heat when traveling down long declines? Too much regenerative energy? I thought this issue was solved. Unless you are referring to overheating causing the board to shut off...
@MellowBoards7 жыл бұрын
If there's more energy than can be recuperated, it will be dispersed as heat. For this. the Mellow Drive has cooling fins. However sustained downhill rides, especially on steeper slopes, will heat up the system. As a result, braking power is reduced to avoid harming the system. Therefore it is important that you do not use the Mellow's brakes for intense downhill rides, pay attention to any notifications on the Remote Control and always ride within your limitsIf there's more energy than can be recuperated, it will be dispersed as heat.
