I do agree with the thought process of Meloni, the points she highlights are really genuine and must be echoing in Italian hearts, the problem with her is she is going to have mental and emotional break down, when/if she was not able to achieve what she promised and might not be able to come back. So Italian brothers please support her and assist in reducing the debt on the country. I think this video misses a few key elements that raise concern about the potential authoritarian threat of this government, most importantly Meloni's proposal to change the constitution to a presidential model, centering a lot more power in the figure of the President. While this is not necessarily a bad thing in a vacuum (plenty of democracies around the world have presidential models) you have to understand the post-war context in which the Italian constitution was written, with the specific objective of making a return of the fascist regime unlikely. The fact that this proposal comes from this party, with its roots in neo-fascist movements, is at the very least cause for pause. You can agree or disagree with Meloni on an array of things (personally my politics is the furthest away from hers on any given topic, for full disclosure) but no matter your opinion I don't believe such sweeping changes to out constitution should be made by what is essentially a minority government. Let's not forget that despite the vast majority they have in parliament, Meloni's right wing coalition only got 44% of the vote. There are more italians who didn't vote for this government than italians who did, we just have a crap electoral law.

The essence of the problem is the deafness that has installed itself regarding anything considered "conservative". The go-to response is that it's fascist. So basically, anything right of left is fascist, even when that "right" is situated on the left side of the political spectrum. This has come about by the progressive passificatioj of critical thought and the dumbing down of the education systems in general. Debate, if we can even call it that, is nothing more than an exchange of emotional reasoning as opposed to fact based discourse. In the end, it is they who bleat the loudest who "win" instead of common sense and facts. The one thing the left is really bad at is precisely that, truth, facts and common sense. Add to this the fact that in this lax environment, the citizen has also become "lazy" and undisciplined in their civic duty, political responsibility and general accountability resulting in a populace wanting the government to decide in their place as opposed to the citizens keeping the same government in check. We have become soft and lazy. It is now time to get political heads out of political R-ses and get back on track with sensible policies, (some certainly hard to swallow but necessary), disciplined civic duty and responsible monetary practice. It is also time to decentralise things because Brussels is a disaster looking for a place to happen.
