I had a hysterectomy two years ago and the gynecologist told me to stop taking bio identical hormones. I said I hate feeling miserable and she said oh well that’s life. Umm, just no. Notice I said SHE. If I hadn’t started HRT at 50 I would’ve been disabled and not able to work due to memory loss. I’m now 70 and working a part time retirement job plus I’m a silversmith and preparing for a show in June.

FRFR! If you find a DR willing to listen and help it’s all out of pocket and will make one go broke. And the DR I did find scared me away from starting estradiol and progesterone because she said it will throw off my cycle and may cause breakthrough bleeding or change my cycle (heavier or lighter and irregular length). My cycle is getting shorter in last two years (40y now) so the thought of negatively impacting what has been a predictable thing I’m like how bad do I need it vs managing naturally with all this “self care”, food and lifestyle. It’s exhausting no matter how I dice it. 😅😂

Yes, we need to fight for HRT to be covered by medical insurance! HRT for men is fully covered. The cost is either out of pocket now or paid for in pain, disease and broken bones if you fall. I added 3.5% to my bone density on HRT while my friend without HRT has fallen twice and broken both clavicles. My memory and brain fog has also improved. I am now BMI = slender also.

I was crying by the end of this video, a video I desperately needed! I'm 55 y/o and perimenopausal which I'm calling my werewolf phase because it feels like I'm changing into this unrecognizable being uncontrollably and no one seemingly is trying to help me. I'm having headaches, low-grade nausea, my sleep cycle is shot, hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, and vertigo,.For four days I couldn't bring myself out of bed because I felt so exhausted. I went to my doctor and the first thing I asked was if it could be attributed to being perimenopausal and she just chuckled and went on with the exam. That pissed me off!!! I'm so glad I found Dr. Haver and her work because feeling like sh*t all the time isn't normal.

I’m 52 and just recently started struggling with severe anxiety and depression. I get headaches/migraines often. Just starting to get a hot flash now and then. I’ve been in perimenopause since I was 47-48. The brain fog, fatigue, anxiety and depression are really having me consider HRT. I never have before bc I was so afraid of being bad for my body. But after listening to a couple convos with this same doctor, maybe this is the next step. I am grateful that I heard this today. It is all very exhausting all the changes that we have to make with diet, exercise and on top of everything, I was just diagnosed with ADHD about 3 years ago. Talk about brain fog!

Hi Indigo: you don't say how old you are, but if you are perimenopausal or postmenopausal and don't trust doctors I suggest contacting an experienced acupuncturist. I saw one and she was very helpful. Now , seeing a patient who seemingly suffered so from hormones is a powerful incentive to avoid hormones replacement . Remember you don't know what form of estrogen she took. Oral estrogen can increase the risk of stroke but transdermal estrogen ( creams, patches) does not. I urge you to update your information, then make a decision.Good luck

I was suffering badly and omitted chocolate, even dark chocolate. Ommit coffee, even decaf which I was enjoying and no hot flashes. Apparently there is a chemical in them that does up the hot flashes. My naturopath wanted to put me on hormones and i said no do she told me about this. She did say when you go off hormones the symptoms come back. I personally am happy to address this with food and herbs instead of making big pharma rich. I had been on hormones before 2020 and when I went to a Chinese Medicine Doctor he read my pulse and tongue and said my system was cold and that wasn't good. So that is when I went off hormone therapy. It's been a dance to learn how to learn what to do. I am so happy I chose the sovereignty path.

The big question behind all this is: why do women nowadays need HRT? What is in our food or toilettries that is endocrine disrupting? Is it the hexane in the seed oils or endocrindisruptors in showergels and make-up? Is it because we have fatty livers and are almost diabetic? Interesting things to look at. All my complaints dissapeared once I banned all chemicals out of my life. And carbs!

I went to an infertility support group and some ladies learned they were in menopause in their 40’s. Women’s health needs more attention, acknowledging, education, and funding! I had to fight tooth and nail to get hormones when I hit menopause. So much gaslighting, condescension, and even a bit of bullying. It’s ridiculous how often we get treated.

I am normal weight. Physically active. I’m not on one medication. I hit the peri menopause wall at 54. All of my health markers started to tank. So many of the symptoms listed in the comments. The only thing that alleviated my symptoms was a very strict ketogenic diet. My fuel source is fat. Sugar/carbs is poison for my system that abruptly changed on me. Carbs simply do not work for me. Hard to admit but it’s the only thing that has restored me to close to my former self. If I need HRT I will definitely consider it. I have the genetic marker for BRCA so I prefer no medications. Diet discussions are triggering for people so I understand why using diet to control symptoms is tough. I am thankful that we are finally having conversations about this issue.

Now I know my mother was in perimenopause when we were children my 2 brothers and I. She would collapse after getting us off to school in the 90’s . We were all born in the 80’s . I was 85. 39 this year. My cycles are seriously erratic since 2024 started . Almost a decade in perimenopause. I have a feeling how my cycles are I maybe in menopause before a year is up. Can’t track my cycles anymore. I can’t even help manage a 3 story house with loads of grounds around it that have to be up-kept. Gardens etc… use to be able to take a house apart and put back together. I am not that person anymore and it scares me.

my life changed so much after my 34 but it was a slow decline until 42 but these last 4 years have been a nightmare i told my doctors and have checked my hormones and thyroid many times, hair fell off, everything dried up, cracked fingers, toes, heals, vision and memory loss, terrible insomnia, energy is gone and all my tests are normal, pain everywhere, headaches, heavy bleeding went from 3 to 16 days, gained tons of weight year after year since my 38, i have been slim up to that, i cant lose it. i eat less and less, because i was sure it was my portions it is so frustrating 💔 my digestion is slow and seems to have more and more food intolerances doing now meats, salads and berries, added fermented foods, prenatal vitamins, hormones, adhd meds and green tea for caffein since cant digest coffee. edge is off for a month but still trying to get a balance, seeking more strategies like fasting, snake juice and more walks alone.

Look for a NAMS provider. If you can't get that, go back to your pcp and ask for birth control patch. There is Zamefy and Xulane, the latter has more estrogen. Use a waterproof sticker over it. That's probably better for you because of your age and it's way easier to get. Don't get the oral pill!!!! Iud works too. The oral pill makes you insulin resistant and thus fat but it does help you. But getting fat isn't a good idea. The fat will drive all kinds of other problems.

What was the blood work that he drew and what part of your cycle were you in? Try to get a copy and look carefully at the lab slip normal ranges that are listed.Because your cycles can vary during perimenopause you may have hit a cycle that was hormonally normal. If you are having some insomnia you may be low in progesterone.

I'm 41 and for the last couple years I've had every symptom that seems to be associated with perimenopause; insomnia, no libido, hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, thinning hair, brain fog, having to pee more often and fatigue. I went to my gyno and she said I'm not in perimenopause because my blood work doesn't show it and she felt I was too young. So she put me back on birth control pills and that did make a lot of my symptoms go away but now I'm wondering if that was the right choice.

HRT is a phenomenal cure for menopausal symptoms, not birth control pills. The problem is men get HRT paid by insurance including testosterone shots or pellets. Women get compounded cream to rub on their thighs that they have to pay out of pocket. Estrogen vaginal lozenges are also out of pocket. Pellets and the progesterone you need if you still have a cervix are very expensive and ALL out of pocket. Without HRT, you will age very badly. Depression, bone and muscle loss, desert dry vaginas, no libido, and eventually no orgasm either. It's very grim and it starts at about 50 years old without HRT.

I am so glad that this conversation is FINALLY taking place. I suffered for years and went to countless doctors (women included) who refused to treat me except with anti-depressents. I refused the anti-depressents, started reading everything I could. I did very intense research on my own for 5 years and finally walked into my Doctor's office with my research in hand and demanded that they give me transdermal estrodial with vaginal progesterone. My doctor was so impressed that when I came back to her, she was on the same regiment I was. It helps to research and know your own body.

Ok thank goodness you are talking about this! I was very pissed off the my male OBGYN doctor poopooed my severe hot flashes to the point I was not sleeping and my erratic mood swings… from lack of sleep… after he did a complete hysterectomy on me… which I needed due to fibroids and excessive bleeding. He did not even warn me about any possible symptoms that could occur after my surgery. He made me feel like I was a big baby for wanting medication and hormone treatment to help me survive life!!! I teach full time, and am a mom and grandmother… who also has an aging parent. I was barely surviving with all these hot flashes! Thank you for this podcast! I don’t feel dumb or crazy! Two of my favorite women right here! Thank you for this interview! I’ve been through hell and finally coming back with the help of hrt. What a nightmare this has been. I was completely blindsided by menopause. My symptoms hit me from one week to the next so hard I thought I was dying. I went to multiple doctors and no one ever mentioned menopause. And with our society trivializing menopause by laughing about hot flashes and how all that’s funny it’s no wonder I had no idea what was coming. I also wish there was a warning and a protocol on how to get through this. I had to stop Marie’s B School when all this happened to me and I’m just now starting up again. But I’m moving forward! Rock on you two! I will also die with my patches on (I need two) or whatever form I’ll be on then. Much love!! 💜💜

Then I started drinking spinach, strawberry and water only smoothie. A year later I went to the doctor and she thought she has put me in a treatment 🤣. Then I realized that prayer keeps your stress down. All my symptoms are gone. I don’t know if I will ever need HRT. I’m not against it. I saw my mother in law suffer a lot. I’m at that age now. I used to work as an IT contractor in nursing homes and struggled with seeing the suffering that these places are full of. Now that I’ve gone through menopause hell , I understand why there were an alarming number of elderly women in wheelchairs who would do nothing but moan and cry. Without HRT I will be one of them.

This is such an important perspective. Thank you for sharing this with us, even though it must have been so challenging to witness that as an IT contractor. Sending you lots of love as you continue to move forward. ❤

I thought I'd watched all of Dr. Haver's YT interviews and didn't think I needed to watch another one, but I love you Marie so I decided to watch and guess what, I still learned a few new things. Thank you Marie- you're the best!

I so appreciate your comments about (and relate to having been seen as a) "whiny woman," because I feel as if my doctors - and most of them are women - have done exactly that when I've complained of symptoms connected to menopause (the knee pat, "Sorry" response). And, believe me, the BS is much higher when you're in a larger body! ("Oh, well, you could try to lose weight..." and "Is it possible your weight has anything to do with this?"). Argh!! Thanks for acknowledging the discomfort and for an interesting and informative conversation.

It is utterly ridiculous and the arrogance of some when you push back and truly advocate for yourself. It had infuriated me and I found a functional doc. This video helped me understand more why my doc was doing certain things for me. Thank God for those docs who branched away from the mainstream of medical society. Life savers!!

Thank you for this conversation!!! I too would not be the orthopedic physical therapist who specializes in the spine, had I not, been the P.T. working at a premiere hospital in Manhattan with the “best of the best” who required low back surgery and made the doctors scratch their heads saying they had no idea why I was still having symptoms down my leg after surgery (possibly insinuating it was in my head.). Any of my patients operative or non, feel such a sense of relief and connection to know I’ve been in their shoes!! I didn’t understand at the time why this awful thing was happening to me in my mid- twenties, and now I’m so grateful for this life changing event that truly shaped the trajectory of my career! Again, thank you, both of you, for the trails you are blazing!!!

And though I’m not in menopause yet, I’m curious what percent insurance covers for Viagra vs HRT? If I had to guess, I’m thinking coverage for viagra is more despite the fact that we are in the year 2024!!!!! How are things like this still happening/ acceptable???

Thank you for this interview Marie. I've watched a couple interviews with Dr. Mary Claire and learn something helpful from her every time but this one really hit me emotionally. Thank you for sharing what you've been going through. Your symptoms are very similar to mine and like you I had no idea what was happening to me. It was so scary during those dark depressive nights that came out of nowhere. Now that I'm more educated about perimenopause and menopause, I'm able to view those symptoms in a practical way versus from a place of sheer panic. Thank you again. Keep doing what you're doing.
