Hey everyone. Just wanted to let you know that Keegan sadly took his own life on Tues 23 April 2024 while in Vietnam doing some work there. As this podcast reveals, along with his book, the consistent, gnawing darkness of depression obviously became too overwhelming. His dear family and friends are naturally devastated, but we also all acknowledge just how tough his mental fight was. As his brother said in a tribute: "this world was just not made for him." You're finally at peace, Keegan. Thank you for how you inspired us all. Your charismatic, larger-than-life character lit up the world, and we will sorely miss it. ECT is still in use- at least here in Australia...I know, because it was used on me in 2019. I still have no memory of what they said I had done. I was given 8 sessions. It should be outlawed. I am 68, I have PTSD, Dissociative Disorder and a couple of other acronyms I forget what else...that i have had since basically most of my life.

To be honest, I actually haven't heard a story about ECT being successful, but I also haven't looked into it too much

ECT is a surgical procedure in my area, which is done under anesthesia. It has been effective in certain cases. My uncle also underwent ECT in the 70s and 80s in my home country. Less effective back then. Also not sure if they put him out for it. If i had to guess, i'd say no.

I’ve known multiple people who credit it with having saved their lives. It’s also not the same as it is made out to be in the media, and it being stigmatized really doesn’t do anyone any good.

11:13 IDKAT podcast does help! i often have the Symptoms of a Depressive Episode of bipolar and very rarely the manic episode symptoms and actually im coming bk to this episode of the podcast because at lunch they delivered my food with sauces when I ordered without, and my mood went up my ass, it went from quite happy and calm to "I dont deserve to live, every thing is my fault, nothing significantly good has ever happened in my life".
