Tim Drake was the "Spider-Man" Robin. He was the relatable teenage hero. Much of the appeal of his tenure was seeing how it affected the rest of his regular life. Unfortunately, nothing seems to get outmoded and replaced at DC faster than the "relatable young hero". The first one they had was Firestorm back in the 70s and early 80s. But then his popularity waned and Firestorm faded into the ether. The '90s had a bunch of them of different stripes. Tim Drake as the relatable high school kid. The Ray as the guy struggling with early adulthood. Damage as the reluctant young hero who felt like his life was out of his control. And who can forget Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern? And now they've all kind of diminished in importance. The latest in that line is probably Jaime Reyes as Blue Beetle. Good luck, Jaime. I hope you last a little longer.

Him leading the Titans, his time as Red Robin after Bruce “died”, him being the Robin with the staff, his genius, etc.. He was the coldest Robin. He didn’t feel edgy like Damian or Jason, because he was cool without it. Hell part of what I loved was how close he and Dick Grayson were before the New 52. Dick and Tim really considered each other brothers, and even an equal (which is why he didn’t want Tim to be his Robin when Dick was Batman). He wasn’t the best fighter of his family but he was so smart he made it work. But they KEEP GIVING OTHER ROBINS TIM’S STUFF! STOP GIVING DICK AND DAMIAN THE STAFF! Tim specifically chose the chose a staff while training with Lady Shiva, because it’s nonlethal and compensates for his lack of being a physical prodigy like Bruce or Dick. Ra’s called him Detective. Red Robin was an evolution from the identity that Tim adopted when Batman was gone effectively Growing into his own man under the name. He wasn't exactly Robin in that comic. He wasn't the boy wonder he was a Mature equal to Batman who no longer needed him. Damian being Robin was more effective with Dick as Batman but Tim still can retain that identity because it is essentially an amalgamation of Batman and Robin's identities into one form. Which matches his character to a T.
@moshymoshАй бұрын
That’s my problem with Red Robin, it feels hard to grow past Robin when it is literally still part of the name. It always felt very one foot in, one foot out rather than an entirely new moniker to truly stand on his own. Having him stay as Red Robin is the most boring second-hand option. I'm sick and tired of people moaning on about Red Robin being the most viable option. It's lazy and absolutely ignorant to think he cannot find new ground with a new name and design. Red Robin worked as a stopgap at the time, it was clear he wasn’t a sidekick but he was still a Robin, because he never felt the need to breakaway from Bruce in that story. Problem is now, it is clear he 100% outgrew Robin, but he's still in denial about it, just like the stans. He could become so much more and he deserves so much better, but he chooses to limit himself because doesn't want to acknowledge he's been replaced as Robin. He needs to cope with that, just like the stans who don't like change. Ergo, new moniker. Plain and simple.
@moshymoshАй бұрын
@@rhyswallace3590 As it stands now, Tim is stuck in a middle ground where it feels like he’s not allowed to progress, but the world around him is. Even that brat Damian feels like he’s developing a lot more than Tim, which shouldn’t be the case given how much longer Tim has existed. Again, Red Robin worked as a stopgap that was tied to a significant event (RoBW). But forcing that as his new identity is lazy. He needs to move on. He needs to break new ground. Something else entirely. He should definitely advance beyond being Robin, and I don't think Red Robin is the right moniker for him at all. He needs an identity that isn't about still being Robin, only with a different color. And while his Red Robin series was great, chances of Tim going back to how he was portrayed in that are slim. Right now Jason is occupying the edgy, morally gray and brooding ex-Robin niche. Damian is taking over the Lazarus / Al Ghul stories, and the plotline of finding an identity that is more than just his parents' son, and Dick is getting the "center of the DC, stepping up to lead" plot. That leaves Tim mostly with the detective stories niche, which is what his series from 2 years ago was trying to do. Emphasis on trying here. It failed spectacularly. He needs something better.

Out of all the Robins, I think Tim Drake earned the title of Robin the most since he had to undergo a lot of training and rejection from Bruce during a time when he was emotionally struggling and grieving from Jason's death, so you can imagine how much more belligerent and demanding he was to Tim after he willingly chose to be Robin. Tim acted as an emotional anchor so that Batman could heal again and find the empathy and compassion he had for others like his enemies, and that's one of the reasons why I believe Tim was the best Robin since he had both the natural detective skills and drive to be Robin while helping Bruce ground and maintain his humanity as Batman. Frankly, as much I love Damian's character and arc growing up in the comics and Im excited to see him in Brave and Bold, I do kinda wish that instead of Damian, they start the DCU Batman with Tim Drake as Robin. Since I fear that they might just skip over Tim's character since he's constantly getting s*** on by DC Comics and just straight up getting forgotten about since he's arguably the best person to have become Robin since he actually earned that title and role, and had natural detective skills to make him a great Robin and reopen Bruce's compassion for others even his villains after the Joker killed Jason and Batman became more brutal after being stricken with grief. Look, Im not saying they won't adapt Tim Drake; however, Im just concerned they may cut him out of the DCU since the movie already seems rather crowded with the Bat Family, and I fear they won't care enough to do something interesting with Tim Drake that shows why he's a vital member of the Bat-Family and what makes him different from the other Robin's

One thing you hinted to but left out was the fact that the idea of being Robin didn't originally occur to Tim. When he went on his mission to convince Dick to return to the mantle of Robin, ("A Lonely Place of Dying"), Dick took him to the bat cave then drove off as Nightwing. As Tim was yelling at Dick as he drove off, then crying that "Batman doesn't need Nighwing. He needs... Robin." As Tim sat there, broken, thinking his quest had completely failed, he was utterly shocked as Alfred told him, "I believe, Master Timothy, that is why he brought you here." (One of my favorite scenes of the character.)

Love this video, and I’m a big fan of your channel and I just gotta ask: was this video inspired by comic pop’s recent world finest video? Only reason I ask is because Sal goes on a tangent about how dc keeps taking things from Tim and diminishing his importance, kinda like your vid!

4:18 To be fair... Tim was a little bit of a stalker fanboy when he was introduced. I mean, he was spying on Starfire in her apartment and following two well-known vigilantes to their dangerous fights. It's a testament to how well-written he is that people love him despite that weird intro.

I love the Webtoon "Batman Wayne family adventures" I love Bat family here , their banter and Tim Drake is Detective Red Robin here He and Damian had a fight which i loved very much after both had tough time teaming with each other I loved when Damian said that unlike other Robins, Tim chose his path, it wasn't forced on him or as some imagined birthright. And they became friends at the end of chapter I feel that writers get Batfamily and its because of this webtoon , i love Batfamily
@lamedrawingsАй бұрын
Bro I miss the Red Robin suit so much, its an evolution of what he should look like imo, where Nightwing and Jason created new looks that are completely separate from the Robin mantle, Tim took the Robin suit and turned it into a makeshift Batman costume with the cowl on which shows just how similar he is to Batman mentally then any other Robin before or after him. That should've been his default look but no, gotta put him back in the Robin suit again like he's still a trainee next to Damien.

My first introduction to Tim Drake was in the 90s New Batman adventures cartoon. Never realized it at the time, but that character was NOTHING like the comics version and was basically just Jason Todd lite. He wasn't really badly written in that show, he was just a different character. He's one of the better Robins for sure but they've never really adapted him well outside of comics.
