Stuart we had our time in Mazarron Murcia. We had menu del dia all the time with the pork dish and the cheese cake desert. Never have seen the egg dish but love to have tried it. In the Mazarron area all the restaurants include a bottle of wine shared by two. The restaurant's offer three choices for each course. So miss living in Spain it was the best time of our lives. As always love the food reviews

A solid aspect of Spanish culture, well explained. I love hunting out various Menu del Dia options. Last month in Northern Tenerife, I enjoyed a beef consomme, grilled local fish steaks and papas arrugadas with accompanying mojos and to finish, a tiramisu plus an excellent glass of local vino blanco. All superb eating for just 13.5 Euros or just over 12 quid. You just cannot beat it. Keep up the good work pal 👍

loved watching this video for menu del dia. I have had revueltos in Seville and Cordoba, with prawns and asparagus. Lovely. Our local menu del dias tend not to include a drink unless at the roadside restaurants and an average here in Turre/Mojacar area is 18 euros so your's was very good value indeed.

I have many menús del día on my travels. I am not a vegetarian but I wish they would have more vegetables and the desserts could be better but all in all great value. The meal you had looked good and was great value.

@@josepmanelvarela5244 Pues, pero es la verdad, ningún restaurante español sirve verduras con sus platos principales, como dices siempre tienes que pedirlas aparte, ya sea como guarnición, primer plato, etc. Así que si quieres una comida completa y equilibrada acabas pagando un dineral por esos primeros segundos y platos principales y guarniciones. Además, no considero que una ensalada o legumbres sean verduras. Ve a otros países y verás que no tienes que pedir primer plato o guarnición para tener una dieta completa y equilibrada. Por ejemplo, un restaurante italiano cerca de mí sirve un plato principal por 16 € (de su menú a la carta, no de un menú del día que suele tener raciones mucho más pequeñas) que contiene pollo con salsa, algunas patatas y un montón de verduras. Todo en un solo plato sin tener que pedir guarnición o primer plato. Este es sólo un ejemplo pero puedo darte más.

@barbaralavender6997 some vegetables are often part of the dish, even if not so visible, like sautéed veggies for the base of a stew or other dishes. The starter is typically a more veggie based dish, the main course more protein based.

I loved this one Stuart. I'm watching it as I'm cooking my dinner and now I've seen that delicious looking secreto, I don't fancy my dinner at all. My Spanish is good enough to encounter just about any situation in a restaurant but I really enjoyed seeing your on-screen translations. Just a reassurance I guess that I had got it right. Your menú del día looked good and very good value for money. The same meal anywhere close to where I live in London SE would cost betwean £30 and £40. If you had the audacity to order some veg or a salad to go with the secreto, you would pay an extra £5 0r £6. 😀👍

I have lived in Spain for 20 years and think that menú del día is usually excellent value for money. I just wish the Spanish would serve more vegetables with their dishes - and I don't mean that mushy mixed veg that you often get.

Looks great, I would have preferred a grilled green long pepper as that adds some moisture. Here in Almeria we tend to get a small house salad normally with tuna, beetroot, capers, anchovies etc between the first course and the meat. A tip for others is check where the pensionistas gather around a table and share a plate that’s the restaurant you want.

. Hi Stuart!, I'm going to try that revuelto for brekky on 5 semillas bread. Tonite cooking Paletilla de cerdo (4.90€/kg) con hueso y piel, with champiñones al ajillo y roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings. So a bit of a hybrid but spanish pork is the best in the worls IMHO!, washed down with Aribeño blanco ( Mercadona 1.90€) and excellent! Aprovecho!

I like the creamy. Flan varies everywhere in Spain from my experience. some is more custardy, some is kind of dry, some is cremosa, some is more eggy. Thanks again.

@@timbrandis1151 When I first went to Spain (2000), I used Usted. In 2011, I was shocked to be addressed as tú in a shop, by a youngster! I was so used to France and Italy, where that would be unthinkable. A young colleague of mine (I was the Latin teacher) had lived in Asturias for a year. He told me that in Spain, they avoid Usted. It seems to be connected with the dictatorship. I understand that in other hispanohablante countries, the use of tú would be impolite unless you knew the person well. I’d be interested in what Stu has to say. After all, he’s basically a native now! 😂

I will explain where secreto comes from. If you buy a shoulder of lamb and have the leg part and the shoulder (blade part). It's the underside of the shoulder part, always sweet and juicy in lamb and the same in the pork version. Hope that clarifyies it for you.

It's not usual to have vegetables with main course. Usually the starter choice is vegetables/salad.

But this makes Spanish restaurants very expensive (except maybe menu del dias). In order to have a balanced meal you are forced to order two or three dishes. Elsewhere in the world you just need to order the main course and have all elements of a balanced meal in that one dish.

Although I can interact in Spanish in restaurants, I would like to refine the way I address waiters, for instance, instead of simply saying « mayonesa por favor », I would like to use a more polite way, like « sorry, but could I get some mayonnaise please? »

Saying "mayonesa por favor" is polite, but if u want to say more polite, the translation is "perdona, me podria traer un poco de mayonesa, por favor?" Hope this help 😊
