In 1964, Corgi Toys introduced the Mercedes 220 SE coupe model to the toy market. This model was sold under two numbers: 230 and 253. I don't know why the Mercedes miniature on the box was four-door, and not two-door as in the model. I was looking for this Mercedes for a long time. I finally managed to buy a badly damaged car at a flea market that was missing a roof pillar on the driver's side and a spare tire in the trunk. The gray tires that were on it were cracked due to age and I had to replace them with new ones made of polyurethane. Since the interior of the Mercedes was red, I used the original cream color in which it was sold. If the interior was cream, then I could paint this model blue metallic, red metallic or black. Thanks to the parts I often buy at flea markets, I was also able to replace the missing spare wheel that was in the trunk. Maestro. A lovely, albeit muted original color to this European specification of the Mercedes 220 SE Coupé. These cars were omnipresent when I was growing up, as well as the "finned" version. The steering mechanism and coil spring front suspension reminds me of Spot On and Solido cars. Very fancy! I love the whole idea and marketing scheme for the wire-spring "Glide-A-Matic" suspension. The classic yellow boxes with the enticing point of scale colors and prose work! I especially like the font and green color for "Glide-A-Matic." Beautiful job on a beautiful model! ❤❤ Stephen

Oh, this brings back happy memories! That type of Mercedes always seemed to be driven by bad guys in movies. My one always came to grief by being run off the road by my Corgi James Bond Aston Martin DB5. Lovely restoration, as always. Thank you! 👍👍👍

What a gorgeous Mercedes model Paul! Well done! I don't recall ever seeing this particular Mercedes Benz on the roads. Many, many years ago I used to go to all the motor shows with my Dad. The Mercedes-Benz section was always the most enjoyable and we inspected all the new cars in detail.

I had this in the maroon colour until about ten years ago, box as well. Sold it with a job lot of other stuff, dinky, corgi Britain's, etc. It was almost perfect, hardly a scratch and I was silly to let go. I vaguely remember there was a suitcase as well as spare wheel, but no 100% sure? Brought back memories. I never saw a cream version in the shops BTW, and mine had functionality of steering by pressing on each side? Maybe not quite the same release model? Great channel....

I had this model, different color, steering wheels, in the trunk there was a spare tire and a traveling bag. I don't remember the star on the bonnet. There was a spring in the steering mechanism, so that the wheels normally would stay straight, if you pushed down the front left, the car would turn to left, as soon you released the front, the wheels would return to straight position

Прекрасная реставрация. 👍Даже замененная передняя левая стойка никак не отличается от правой. Но было бы неплохо окрасить в серебристый цвет звезду Мерседеса на крышке багажника и добавить номерные знаки спереди и сзади, чтобы сделать модель чуть-чуть "поживее". Excellent restoration.👍 Even the replaced front left rack does not differ in any way from the right one. But it would be nice to paint the Mercedes star on the trunk lid silver and add license plates on the front and back to make the model a little more lively.

That may have been done as a modification by a previous owner. In the U.S., the front turn signal lenses were clear. I know that European versions often had amber turn signal lenses, front and rear.
