Mercedes-Benz builds a one-off G-Wagen to celebrate 500,000 built!

After 44 years, Mercedes-Benz just built its 500,000th G-Wagen. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been a symbol of luxurious capability for decades now. And with this milestone model, the automaker has created a one-off throwback version that looks outstanding.

Sad that this is not for sale . I always prefer the older versions than the latest one . The older versions looks more serious off road machine

They are doing the same thing as Ferrari, build a lot less than demand. So no discounts or rebates, but a waiting list, enormous profit margins, high prices and even pricier options and buyers still sign the contract!

It never ceases to amaze me how MB doesn't make THIS in the US -- a $65k Rubicon competitor -- with an MBTex interior, perfect wheel/tires, and no touchscreens... baffling.

I use to awe this vehicle, for a business project I inquired 3 different dealerships for the G550, One year wait list for G550, 2 Year wait list for G63. There are people on that list that obtain the vehicle and immediately resale for a premium because 1-2 years ago they paid a bit over MSRP. The day that G arrives its worth a hefty price for lets say some foreign investor in Miami that needs to wire in 250K asap.....The G is just one big status and money game in the US.

We fortunately have the G400d here in South Africa 🇿🇦, where it has a tank range suited to accessing desert regions far from fuel. The V8's are just for the show. The G400d is a 2.9litre straight six with turbo. It makes 700Nm already at 1200r/min at a rate of 243kW. That's insane power. 0-100km/h faster than a 2023 Golf GTi.

Yes, the fact is Mercedes doesn't need.... Sadly but, recent press releases indicates that there is a scaled down G on the way. Perhaps to maintain the exclusivity of the original G?

Mercedes is really missing out by now selling a stripped out version in the USA. I guess they have no need to spur more sales when it's still selling like hotcakes.
