I just replaced my crankshaft position sensor yesterday. It was for a 2001 CLK55 AMG. After fiddling around with different extensions I ended up using a 1/4" ratchet with a two inch extension and the socket to loosen the bolt. I broke the bolt loose with the ratchet and used just the extension and socket to finish taking out the bolt. I was able to squeeze the bolt against the socket to prevent it from dropping while I was lifting the bolt out. I used superglue on the socket and bolt to keep the bolt in place so I could install the bolt back in. I found that it was easier for me to put the bolt through the hole in the sensor and then install the sensor and the bolt as a unit. The bolt will be in the correct position for the bolt to be twisted in to get it started. After I pushed in the sensor a bit I started turning the extension to get the bolt started. I twisted the bolt until I could feel that I needed to finish pushing in the sensor completely which I then proceeded to do. Then I focused on finishing up running the bolt in. I then followed up with tightening the bolt down using the ratchet. I could barely see the sensor from looking at it. But once my hand gets down into the space I couldn't see it at all. I relied on my sense of touch to finish doing the job. Overall after I was done it wasn't that bad of job to do. It took some back and forth motions for a bit until I came up with a solution that worked for me. I thought I was going to have to take the car in to a shop to finish this job. I wiggled the socket a bit to crack the superglue apart to get the socket out. Before I replaced the sensor. The engine would warm up in a rough idle and when taking off the power could be weak and it actually felt like it wanted to die. When I came off of the freeway the idle was rough. Fuel mileage dropped lower than I expected. It's odd my scanner didn't pickup the faulty crankshaft sensor problem. I only knew it was the crankshaft sensor after the engine died. Then the check engine light turned on. I was also getting an upcoming engine code problem from my oxygen sensor. It said it was having a problem warming up. The new crank sensor fixed everything for me. The upcoming problem code for the oxygen sensor warning didn't show up after replacement of the crank sensor.

Thanks Masood. Using your instructions I was able to switch out my CPS after getting code P0355. Using your socket extension idea I was able to replace it very quickly. Also, FYI for anyone doing this, I have a 2002 S500 and I bent the protective metal shield out of the way a bit to get better access. The new CPS (BOSCH) was too large so I used some sandpaper to reduce the profile so it would slide in. Also when installing the CPS, use a small piece of tape to secure the bolt to the socket so it doesn't drop out when screwing it back in.

If you haven't changed your CPS in the last 70K miles or so, you probably should. It is a cheap part. However, from my experience it is usually accompanied by an engine code.

Can u help me I have samilar problem the car crank more than once but after that it works is it from crank sensor ??
@masood-tv3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hassan, when was the last time you replaced your CPS? Most likely, yes. If the problem persists, it could be the Camshaft Position Sensor. That one is a little more expensive, and a lot easier to replace. But, it is a good idea to replace both at the same time if they haven't been for 70K miles or so. To determine the root cause precisely, scan your codes.
@gbush16204 жыл бұрын
My W210 got the same problem recently, I follow your video and make the replacement and it's resume normal now. Many thanks!! There's another (Front) crankshaft position right above the alternator (part # 0232103037 A0041536928), do you think we need to replace this too?
@masood-tv4 жыл бұрын
Hi G Bush, na, the other is the camshaft position sensor - a little more expensive but longer lasting. Replace at 150K miles or 15 years.
@kevinfernando31673 жыл бұрын
G Bush what was your w210’s mileages when the crankshaft sensor went out?
@gbush16203 жыл бұрын
@@kevinfernando3167 It is about 157,000km = 97555 miles. Now this vehicle looks good, however… it will have once a few more seconds crank longer, intermittently say once, driving 10 times. @masood-tv3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leo, it should throw a code. There are two sensors in this scenario that could go bad from my experience - crankshaft and camshaft position sensors - but both put out a code. Keep in mind you minimally need fuel, air, and spark for a successful start. So, you will need to do some troubleshooting with the fuel, air, and spark delivery mechanisms. Having said that, you can and should replace the CPM if it hasn't been replaced for a long time or ever. It is cheap and preventative if nothing else...
