Mercedes didn't bring a facelift to their existing model line, they bulldozed the whole thing and replaced it with Las Vegas. It is mind blowing seeing every centimeter of the interior bathed in ambient light, contrasting colors that make it look like a painting, animations that make you smile every time they start, and the entire dash made of displays with some vents woven in. The Hyperscreen makes a Tesla look like a first generation iPhone but you're driving a 14 Pro. Now the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 isn't flawless, it still needs some help in the driver assistance department, but at least it's an incredibly fun place to be.

The loaded Lucid with that 500 mile range is pretty epic... it's massage also shuts off after 30 minutes and the reps couldn't explain why. 💯

I missed my window to drive one at Barrett-Jackson by 5 minutes... they said come back at X time and it'll be easy to get your own car, showed up 5 minutes later and they said they were done for the day. Still salty about that, the Lucid is incredible 😬

I doubt it depreciates that much. A three year old model x is still worth 75 of original purchase price. So long as the cars do well which by the way they probably will and software updates come out people will pay for them. Only electric cars that are abandoned or cut off by the manufacturer drop. In general they hold their value quite well.

I love the technology I love someone who is very tech savvy being surprised by features on a new vehicle. I would love to see you do the same type of video on a brand new Grand Cherokee equally equipped to see any comparisons but also to see similar technologies. The EQS is amazing! Such awesome tech, the voice control will do everything for you, also if the driver has their eyes on the passenger screen for too long the car cameras pick up on it and dims the passenger screen. You should also try the sat nav on full 3d it's crazy it's like Google earth images.

The brake pedal with regen is probably because some areas are pulling people over for not stepping on brakes, the police where I live want brake lights. I got stopped because “you never slowed down from 60 to 50 for that curve but I clocked you at 45”

Hey if you ever get access, I'd love to know what service looks like on this very software-driven vehicle. Does the dealership use wifi and connect it to a remote tech support service? Is it all done in-house with a laptop? Is there an obd2 on these or is it something new? Thanks.

Great review JR. I do not think that anyone could have been as thorough as you. My buddies and I invented a fun drinking game requiring us to take a shot every time you said; “that’s crazy/ out of control/ dude/ insane/ super cool/ etc. Seriously though, I do not think that you failed to cover even one aspect of that car . Nice job. Have you ever considered starting a you tube channel about cars ? Maybe people would watch it and you could make a living doing it! Just a thought. You could even repair and and modify some of them and show us the process. What’s that, you already do that. My bad !

Great looking car. Being from Mercedes you can count on it costing a fortune to maintain after about four years. It will go through suspension components faster than the gas cars. No doubt it will need seals and bearings and all those fancy actuators on the rear wheels.

Excellent review of the Mercedes EV, it looks amazing. It has a high amount of technology features but I did not catch the driving range with 100% charge. I cannot imagine someone taking this vehicle off road. Gabe was on it as the navigator/copilot..lol. How much extra for the owners manual?

Can't say I'm a fan of all the capacitive controls, looks cool, but the lack of tactility is a huge problem for distraction-free driving. That said, also not a fan of all the LEDs, again cool, but distracting and that's a completely unnecessary load on the battery for aesthetic. Lack of serviceability is a concern for me, and I wouldn't describe the 12v battery as easy to get to, especially if it dies. Screens are cool too, but just give me a double-din with an iDataLink kit... All that tech is going to be outdated in varying degrees five years down the road, and at least that way I can update it later on.

Other than the 4 wheel steering and large dash display my Genesis GV60 Performance does just about everything the EQS does with similar appointments, not sure I appreciate the value in the 100+ % premium for the Mercedes. Clearly this vehicle is not meant for the proletariat 🙂

Mercedes has no interest in EV's. They are being forced to have some. Their policy is allow charging for owners, reality is, dealer near me has chargers installed, not active, and blocked by parked cars. Other dealer nearby, 1 slow charger 3 kw, BS if you really need it. I used to park there while at dentist. Got rid of my car because of one contactor inside battery, Battery is considered a module not fixable.

If you have enough money you can buy a really nice ev, but it doesn't make it practical as an only vehicle for most! Pay 70k- 80k and still have to rent a car to go on trips!

Touch screens increase profit margins by compromising safety!!!!!!! (sometime people want stupid things, shakeweight anyone?) They should be banned for all controls required for safe operation like: Wipers, Horns, Brakes, Throttle, Climate, Radio, seats, steering.

Seriously, a full size Luxury EV SUV with no Frunk. Really, WTF. GM and Nissan both keep shooting themselves in the foot but one thing they both have that no other company has even come close to matching is their One Pedal Drive Modes. I always thought the Volt's was really good until I owned a Bolt. The OPD in the Bolt is excellent. It will be hard to ever own another EV that does not have the same level of OPD as the Bolt.
