In the 50s and 60s the stylists had the last word and we had interiors that would kill or maim the occupants in the event of a collision. Now we have interiors, still deigned by stylists, but they will be the cause of the collision, which you may survive, but maims and kills others too. Progress?

LOL Mercedes definitely has not crapped the bed...... This type of vehicle appeals to most that enjoy their products, and one's that can afford it. But it's definitely not the vehicle that carries their business forward. These EQ models are test vehicles, products to keep them within the "new" EV period. As like this car, that old school V8 SUV won't appeal to everyone either. In comparison, it may have one of the following: poor gas mileage, poor safety features, bad ride quality and insulation, road noise, a lack of creature comforts offered in a luxury vehicle today.

I'd say it is a form of corruption instead, and/or gray area exploitation. They simply don't have a spine towards big industry. Although there are things like Dieselgate, but there it was a complex political matter with lots of ideological lobby power and maybe the rules were more clear-cut. Hm, actually, not really, because they got away with it at first, too, so one has to wonder how that can be. Thank you for yet another intelligent, honest and useful review. The interior technology is a true deal breaker. Having to take your eyes off the road is clearly dangerous. Isn't this why it is illegal to operate a cell phone while driving? Having driven extensively on the Autobahn, I found that above a certain speed I couldn't even bring myself to glance at the speedometer and I had my wife call out the speed. While less of an issue here in the States, it illustrated to me how much distance a car travels during a glance away from the road. Further, the glare from the instruments at night is tough on anyone with glasses. Many people over the age of 50 start to have difficulty seeing things up close. If you are far sighted and don't have progressives you will have difficulty. It would be interesting to know how many accidents are caused by driver inattention due to interior touch screens. Does anyone have these data? It would be a fascinating story. Personally I get extremely car sick using touch screens while driving. I may be unusual in this regard- it would be good to know if others suffer from this. Lastly, your long-term review of the MDX Type S now looms large. Normally Acura is not on my radar. But your review of it (except for the transmission) was really compelling. And now the new Cayenne - one of my favorites - just came out and the interior is almost entirely touch screens. As far as I can tell, this leaves the MDX Type S as one of the few SUVs that is nice to drive whose major interior operations can still be performed with physical controls. If that car is truly on par with some of the German rivals, it may be the last refuge for people who dislike or cannot use touch screens in this segment.

@@SixSpeedSeven And I don't understand where exactly the difficulty lies. As a layman I imagine you have parameters that you can tweak and then you look at the result and if that looks close to real-life, then you've done a good job. I have seen those super-pale shots in the past, in many non-HDR-videos, so I wonder whether that's a deliberate stylistic choice that I don't understand. But the rearwards shots often have such overvibrant greens for example that the reflection of the vegetation on their faces looks like moss growing on their cheeks.

Wow!! Not sure if he just got a shitty EQS thats not outfitted with all of the comforts and options that comes with but I totally disagree with him. I have owned my EQS 580 and it has all I mean all of the options available on the EQS. As of today I have driven 17,072 miles and drive 40 minutes in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. I can tell you that this is the absolute best car I have ever driven. Yes it's expensive and its not for everyone but those who can afford it should get it and not listen to this review. This car is so beautiful from the inside and out. The comfort is the reason I spent past $150K and comfort is what defines this EQS. Its so quite inside that a business owner like myself has time to think and not be distracted by all of the noise outside. The music!! Oh my god it's love love love. The sound system is amazing (once you finally get it fine tuned to your liking). It took me about 6 months to figure out how to actually enjoy this car and I think I am about 50% there. There is so much to this car and so many options to make you comfortable that test driving it for a day or so will not give you the driving or the comfort experience that it offers.

The excuse they give for distractions is that the car can stop itself from crashing. This teaches people that they no longer have to pay attention and leave the responsibility of crash prevention to the car. Sad.

On any given day, you encounter stupid and distracted drivers. We've all seen them and have avoided (I hope) accidents screaming at them to get their heads out of their butt when they drive. So, Mercedes builds a car whose dashboard is a video game. What could possibly go wrong?

To all the Cayenne fan boys, aside from gripping corners and avoiding body roll, this car runs circles around it in every other category including power delivery. I was also considering a Cayenne and this car is far more luxurious.

Long term watcher and SG cheerleader. Just a consideration for your channel when reviewing 'everyday/appliance EVs', maybe not this luxury one. It would be insightful technical data point for you guys to present 'charging curves' which could be a useful talking point in comparing against competitors when applicable, like against the BMW iX in this case. It seems to be an important datapoint for individuals interested in traveling those short road trips like 2-4 hours out and back (charging once at your destination), like a local ski / weekend trip out of town.

I was at a dealership for a GLB a little while ago and my wife had left me to deal with sales after her approval. Didn’t get car but had a bunch of time and asked to test drive the EQS while waiting. God damn it’s nice, however, I think many people like myself prefer a bit more of an analog experience. My wife’s boyfriend prefers the subtle tech of my wife’s XC60. By far it’s leagues behind in regards to tech but after driving the EQS and getting over the wow factor of a new luxury EV, the T8 powertrain on my XC60 is just as quick and preferred the not so in my face amount of tech.

I think the more basic 12.3 screen available on lower spec trim levels to be vastly superior to the Hyperscreen. While Mercedes is doing some amazing work with efficiency and with actually maintaining a high charging rate (when you can find a charger that can deliver), they price themselves beyond the competition.

I am not a fan of the interior - I drive a GLE with the new-ish style MBUX tech - just a screen for driver's dash and one for the middle, but I still have physical buttons for climate control. I like it - they should have kept this design. The big screen at the center console in this vehicle is too much. Then the new GLC looks a bit silly because of this too. Hope they tone it down for newer gens. Always love how Mercedes cars drive, very smooth and quite compared to competitors.

The biggest leap forward in innovation isn’t more electronics, it’s precision manufacturing. When will the manufacturers figure out that luxury is found in manufacturing products that feel hand built and timeless, not in adding more electronics. Nothing feels more temporary than a two year old computer.

The moment a breakthrough in battery technology occurs all these BEVs will be obsolete much like PCs in the 90s with the big YoY improvements.
@computercrack
@computercrack Жыл бұрын
No why should this be the case? A breakthrough in batt tech will make batteries smaller (geometrically) and the cars lighter but what else? The OEMs may choose to give the cars more capacity, although I doubt it. 150kWh will be the maximum even in luxury department cause that's enough for like 750km without recharging and why would you need more? For the little people 100kWh will be deemed enough. Now trucks like the Ford lightning will be a different matter, cause towing reduces range much more.

Every MB vehicle used to have exposed door handles that could be gripped and hooked for easier opening, especially after a crash. Maybe the door handles on this car are programmed to pop out when an airbag deploys, but this is certainly not a "safety first" design.
