Mercedes GL450 ML350 R350 2009-2012 X164 W164 W251 EIS Repair

Mercedes GL450 ML350 R350 2009-2012 have two common faults with the Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS).
The first fault is a bad solder connection to infrared receptor. That means there is connector inside the EIS that was not soldered well at the factory.
The symptoms are:
No response from the vehicle when you insert the key. No noise, no lights, as if you did not insert the key into the EIS. You get a no crank no start situation.
This video shows how we know if the repair was successful. Do not try this if you cannot save your data first. It will cost much more to replace your EIS than to repair it.
The second issue with these EISs is a CAN high over voltage issue. You can view the video here:

The symptoms are not similar to the first issue.
You do get a response when key is inserted.
You get red and yellow dash lights when the key is turned to position 2 in the EIS.
No crank, no start. However, after disconnecting the battery, or the EIS, then reconnecting it... you will get a crank and start.
If it started; while driving you will get error messages on the cluster.
"Drive to workshop without shifting gears." SRS light ABS light. Some report this happening more frequently in colder temperatures.

I have a question, i have a 2010 Mercedes ml 350 with the factory 1645451600 switch with the 2 connectors close together. I found a donor switch that is also a ML switch part number 1645451308 but the connectors are further apart. Can i use that one as a donor switch? The connections are the same just further apart. If so could you do it for me?

It depends on whether or not your ML has “Keyless Go” (push to start button). If it does and you want to keep Keyless Go working. You must find a EIS that has the connectors close together. If your ML does not have KG or if you don’t mind if you lose KG functionality… I can clone the donor to your vehicle. @@salsami6828 You can read it with VVDI MB BGA. AVDI. As long as the IR function is working. If IR is not working, you can’t read the key password. You make up a new password and match it with a new key.
