Thanks for your video DB Just to add a note - The belt Idler pulley bearing locked up & spat the belt off when my wife was driving on her own - so this is why I'm watching your video My advice to add is when you take the belt off check the 2 Idler pulley bearings - just by hand and if they are slightly scratchy or notchey - Replace it!! Also draw a map of the belt location around the pulleys - 8 pulleys Double check the belt is sitting neatly on each pulley before turning the key 👍 Thanks again for your good video - looks like a bit of a bugger doing that job with a camera 📷 😉 Nigel From QLD OZ🇭🇲

Quick question if I may? I have the w204, same engine. has a vibration at about 2000rpm. My mechanic said it could be a pully on the engine, maybe even the harmonic balancer. It seems fine, the balancer, but my question is what symptoms did the car give you before the belt was thrown. Ps, the car has 118k and it's driving me mad.

@@lancegraham7722 Hi Lance That vibration is a concern I was getting a scratching rotating noise when my idler pulley failed - said to myself worry bout that later - wrong!! The harmonic balancer does balance the crankshafts rotation so that sounds logical. But, your KMs are low & harmonic balancers are ment to last an engines lifetime - & a big job $$$ My best advice to give is get another opinion Another thought - you need to rule out the simple things like wheel balancing Good luck 🤞

@Nigel Pont yeah, It does it driving and at idle..while driving it sounds like a burble through the car, at idle it's a rough noise inside. The strange thing is, you cannot hear it outside of the car. Everything has been checked and all compression is good, timing fine, all mounts and any moving components are in great condition. It has me stumped.

@@lancegraham7722 I wish you luck with that Fan blade out of balance??🤔 Maybe someone on a Merc forum chat has had a similar problem - my son is full of 4wd knowledge from those chats👍 Don't let it beat you 🤞

@@lancegraham7722 buy a plug & display Lufi XF OBD2 for mounting on the dashboard. At 750rpm idling MAF reading 4.7g/second, air conditioner switched on, MAP at -7.35psi. throttle valve body at 17.2% open. Months later my mechanic cleaned the up throttle body, during the oil change out for the supercharger, and the position dropped to 14.9% open at 750rpm. No change in MAF & MAP reading. Put on auto cruise mode and keep at 2000rpm and you will be at 85km/hr on a flat road. MAP at -3 to -1.5psi and MAF at about 18g/second. Keep your eyes on the road and use your hand phone to record and review later. Look at other recorded parameters like ignition timing vs rpm vs O2 sensor reading etc etc. After the above a can of injector cleaner & fill fuel tank to 90%. By the time fuel tank is at 20% do another run & recording by OBD2 for 20km. Try then compare.

You should install oil stop cables to preempt the scenario in which the magnetic variable valve timing units start leaking. Any oil making it into the regular cables will creep through the whole cable until it reaches the ECU and destroys it after a while.

Thanks for the tip, I have seen oil in the ecu in other cars, si yes that’s good advice cheers.
