True story... I used to work at a big law firm in Fresno in the 90s and lived up in the Foothills. I played this song in my take deck (lol) on blast as I drive out if Fresno every day. Singing along, word for word at the top of my lungs. LOVING your channel!

Merle was inspired to write this song in LA when his bus driver said “I’m tired of this dirty old city” and said he’d rather be in Montana. Merle gave the driver half a writer’s credit. The song was a hit and the driver made himself quite a bit of money.

Ah the hag.none btr for me. Grew up on it. Over 50 yrs now ive bn hearin the hag. Dont know a song i dont like. Under rated guitar player too. Soo many artist were infulenced by him. Could hear him all day and night. And the stories his songs tell.. he is just country. Period! Soo glad you did this one. What a patriot as well. A fan of yours from florida-1/24/22👍👍

Fighting side of me is my fav of his and the best version of it is live from Philadelphia in 69. That live version is better then the studio version..
