Merlins Over Malta DVD Excerpt

Fantastic! I was there on the ground in 2005and I will never forget the moment that those two incredible machines appeared in the skies over the Grand Harbour. My father lived through the desperate war years in Malta. Now the second world war is a distant memory but the sight and sound of those Merlins over Malta reminds us all of King George VI's words and "the heroism and devotion that will long be famous in history"

Thank you this fantastic film, my father was born & raised in Sliema and was 17 years old and watched the dog fights over the harbour and told me all about the Italian pilots who would drop thier bombs at high altitude and miss targets and head back home, but when the Lufwaffe arrived he said the Stuka pilots would dive so close you could see the pilot clearly from where he watched!!

My Dad was in the final batch of RAF personnel to leave Malta in 1979. Maltese Prime Minister Dom Mintoff' celebrated the departure of the British military with honoured guests Gadafi and Arafat and his joy was undoubtedly shared by many Maltese. But many others, particularly the war generation were very sad to see us leave and I can imagine that it must have been a very emotional moment for those people to see those beautiful birds over Grand Harbour again all those years later.

I have the utmost respect for the men who flew these aircraft in World War 2, all the members of the forces who served on the warships, merchant navy ships and the anti aircraft on Malta, and of course, the Maltese people. My grandmother (who is Maltese) remembers the Hurricanes and Spitfires, the continual bombing and starvation, and of coure, the arrival of Il Konvoy Ta Santa Marija in August 1942. Pity history docs on tv seem to forget Malta's contribution....

I was there, watching from the upper barraka, that day the two planes came and flew several times on the Grand Harbour. I was in Malta during the war. So this was very nostalgic for me. I video taped the whole event too. To those Maltese people like me, even seeing an RAF pilot is nostalgic.

thank you so much James. Malta is seemingly forgotten by documentarys on tv, the Battle of Britain was nowhere near as frought or hard fought as what the Maltese went through. Kids wonder why I get tears in my eyes when I am in Malta standing in the Upper Barakka gardens talkin to Veterans....they don't understand and see them as 'old men', but were it not for them, the youngsters would not have thier freedoms they do today.

Trouble is, kids today think they have it hard if they cannot have a PS3 or XBox 360. Wish they would put kids through what my grandmother went through.I'm 28 years of age, and seein these two aircraft flyin over Grand Harbour still brings tears to my eyes because I understand what they meant to the people who served and survived and also as a memorial to those who diid not. May the Fortress of Malta GC long stand as a reminder of what sacrifices were made by the forces and the Maltese People.

Thanks for this!...was watching some interviews with martin shaw and found out he was a Plane enthusiast and pilot!....wonder if i could get the dvd of this in NTSC format?....👏🏻🇬🇧

The problem for me with this dvd excerpt is the military band playing for all its worth and drowning out and spoiling the sound of those beautiful aircraft. Similarly the speaker/announcer ANNOYINGLY rabbiting on at times and talking over the sound. Someone needs their ar$@ kicked hard.
