Yes i used a G hook for the main section I have really loose tension so i like to use a smaller hook, but you can use the hook you normally use with your yarn, Then a small hook to get tight tension for the brim, thank you for watching

I made this hat with cotton yarn and a touch of shell edge and a flower. It was for my 8 month old daughter and I love it! I didn't do the last increase row and it fits perfect on her. Thanx always. :)

Also, when I have a pattern that says to work 1dc, then 2dc in same sp or st, then 1dc, etc...I usually start with the 2dc in same sp, which is chain 4 & then dc in that stitch to make the second dc, then go to 1dc in next dc, the 2dc in same sp or stitch, etc... Having 2dc at the beginning helps to fill in that space better when you come around to join there. Just another idea to try. It works for me as well as the one below.. Good luck! Love your videos!!!

I was overworking my brain trying to make this myself and then came across this tutorial, this was exactly what i was trying to make and thank you for the 10dc at the beginning tip, I would've done it with 12 too. Made mine with Lily sugar n cream cotton yarn and a 5mm hook and it turned out amazing! Will make myself another one in another color

Hi! When making a summer hat, you should measure the circumference of your head, divide that number by π and that will give you the diameter of the initial "disk" for the hat, that way you'll avoid making your projects the wrong size

Magic circle or chain 4 and join will work :) THe magic circle allows you to seal up the hole more but if you work over your tail when you do your chain 4 and join it will do the same thing when you pull it tight

It can be your tension, or too many increases, The second one I made with the same yarn and same size hook had a slight ruffle also You can start with less stitches in the first round, this will also make the at slightly smaller hope this helps

You showed us how you have a larger gap at your joining area. There is a video by, I believe, it's either Crochet Geek or Beth from Texas that shows you how to use a dc at the beginning of the row instead of a chain 3 or 4 so that when you come back around & join, you do it in the top of that dc rather than in a chain. I've tried it & it works great!! It may help you with that problem. Will continue in another comment. No space here...
