The story behind this song, according to the bassist John Taylor, was that he approached the longtime Bond producer, Albert R. 'Cubby' Broccoli, while extremely intoxicated when they were both at a party. John asked when someone was going to make a decent Bond song. Cubby said "Why don't you do it?" Well they did it!

The Bond themes were great until the second film with Tim Dalton. They kind of went downhill after that except for the "World is Not Enough". Never liked Daniel Craig as Bond. Connery, Moore and Dalton were still the best.

@@billw715 I recommend this for DD because MOST of their videos are very unique - like little mini movies - and a truly amazing watch. Most new reactors won't know this - that's why the older fans recommend this.

I grew up with DD and they are my favorite band, but I also want virgin eyes and ears to DD to see what they are truly about- their music and to see their musicianship and their great actual live performances rather than this mimed performance. However, if I have to recommend people to see a mimed performance verses a DD official music video, I'll take the official music video like Planet Earth, Hungry Like The Wolf, Save A Prayer, Rio, Is There Something I Should Know? and your suggestion, A View To A Kill. 🙂

Yes, this was lip synced. All the music shows of the day required the artists do that with the exception of The Midnight Special and Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert. However, there is no denying the vocals on this song are intense. It’s one of my favorites of theirs and the official video is perfect 80s cheese. Worth a watch. The movie associated with this song. Also called A View To A Kill is the final Bond movie with Roger Moore in it. Good movie.

Those notes aren't easy to hit in this song, but Simon still nails them live and he's 64. Heard he had some struggles with his voice years ago but came back from it stronger than ever.

Just an FYI, this Duran Duran mimed performance was not from a music show. It was from Bob Hope's Happy Birthday Homecoming in May 1985 (filmed in the UK). It is accurate that many, and perhaps most, of the music TV shows had mimed performances in the USA throughout the 1980s. But they were not all mimed performances with the exception of (American shows) The Midnight Special and Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert. Both of these shows did not last into the 1980s. These two music shows ended in 1981. A lot of the music centered shows in the USA during the 1980s such as American Bandstand, Soul Train and Solid Gold, did have musicians not only lip-sync their songs but mime their instruments to their recorded version of the song. I know in the USA there were music shows such as Austin City Limits and Soundstage and several others throughout the 1980s, which were actual live performed music shows and not mimed. For those in the the UK will remember, Top Of The Pops , which was primarily mimed but few artists performed live like New Order in 1983. Other live performance UK music shows: The Tube, Rock Goes To College, Razzmatazz, Revolver-ATV, The Old Grey Whistle Test, Alright Now, ECT, GasTank .. to name a few.

@@rebeccajohnson8769 Yes, it's the bum note heard around the world. Simon's bum note is one factor of not liking their performance for the band overall. The other factor's are only having one hour of rehearsal for the show after not performing together for 15 months and for being so high on stage.

This is by far the best live performance of the song I have seen! Watch A-ha's performance of "The Living Daylights" on KZbin . It's just as good as this one. Both are by far the BEST Bong themes ever!

Normally love your reactions, but as soon as I saw that you weren’t watching the actual music video, I stopped. There’s no point, especially on this song, if it’s not the actual video because it incorporated bits of the movie and that what made it so epic. The song is great on its own, but DD is known for their videos as much as their music.
