Metal Detecting - How to Find & Follow a Run of Gold Nuggets by Gridding Instead of Chaining
In this video I explain how I used a "Gridding System" to find a definite line or "run" of Gold Nuggets. I simply drew Grid Squares on the ground with my chain, and then covered every inch of each grid square, and as a result I stumbled upon a definite pattern of Gold Nuggets, all pointing to one direction. Prior to this, I was chaining, but this was very time consuming, and the Gold was few and far between. By "Gridding", I was not restricted to the one direction and area, and was able to move around until I "got-on-it"...once I did, I simply followed it. It also made working around trees much easier.

Very very smart prospector you have done your time in prospecting and yes you never ask anyone where they found gold. When they ask you how much you've found just say "petrol money"

Cheers mate... lol....another good answer to that is, I ask them if they'd mind telling me their bank balance..... usually go strangely quiet after that... Regards Aussie

There is an added benefit to this 'chaining' exercise and I was put onto it by an old Yamatje woman when I was a kid in the Upper Gascoyne. Dragging a length of chain through the bush causes small vibrations in the ground and snakes pick up on that and will usually leave the area. Good luck.

I never thought of that... it must work, because I rarely if ever see a snake when I'm chaining. Thanks for sharing. Regards Aussie

Hi Aussie, Do you mind sharing a little info on that particular location, you mention that it had been work by many others. I'm still learning and looking for a place to test ground and see what others have done etc. Thank you for your latest mountain gold vids, excellent work. I very interested in doing the tag along and may contact you next season.

Cheers for the thumbs up on the Mountain Gold Series. There is a cardinal rule in the prospecting world mate...never ask a prospector where he finds his gold, so sorry mate, no-can-do. All I can suggest is research mate. Regards John

I think marking the spots is important . . . I use wire flags. A cluster of flags, to me, indicates deeper digging in that area is probably worthwhile. Enjoyed your video. Cheers from Nevada (USA).

Hi Aussie. Great video.... many thanks! Quick question... do you always do your ‘chain walk’ first (say up and back)? Then, if you find gold, you start boxing?
@AussieBlokeProspector
@AussieBlokeProspector 4 жыл бұрын
Great question.. I only ever pull out a chain if I get 2 or 3 bits in close proximity and the ground is consistent. Regards Aussie
@johnhenderson8360

I like your idea of boxing, but couldn't you take it one step further and use a GPS mapping program. This would be even more meaningful in an area that hasn't been "picked over" (if there is such a place).
@AussieBlokeProspector
@AussieBlokeProspector 5 жыл бұрын
I like the idea mate, however virtually all GPSs on the market are accurate to 3 metres max, unless you are willing to part with literally 10s of thousands of dollars to get a GPS which will go down to about 30cms (usually used by surveying companies). At only 3m accuracy, I think it would be easier to just grid. ...and yes..there are still such places in WA. regards Aussie

G'day mate! 1. Appreciate your videos. Thanks heaps. 2. I'm a city bloke, but wondered... does all the gold on or near the surface come in red dirt ? Lastly, where is the closest place to Perth that a person could look for gold, be it in water or like you do ? Thanks for letting me see a bit of West Aus from the Perth Metro area.
@AussieBlokeProspector
@AussieBlokeProspector 7 жыл бұрын
You're welcome mate. WA is particularly "red" compared to the east, however in both the far north of QLD and the NT, the gold can be found in similar red conditions. As for Perth, I believe Southern Cross would be one of the closest areas for detecting...as for creeks, I am not familiar with creeks near Perth. Regards Aussie
