That's what Dream Theater sound like, it's like they never lost a step in between Mike leaving & rejoining, the chemistry is obvious, amazing song from an amazing band, very impressive comeback, everyone sounds great, especially Mike.

This! Yes it almost has some Mangini era style to it but Portnoy’s power and signature is ALL OVER it. It’s almost like an “evolved” dream theater song.

I really liked this song, hope they keep this level for the whole album.
@dontcareisaidit11 сағат бұрын
I swear this band is far more melodic than people give them credit for. They go hard, but it seems like they really try to take you on melodic journeys than 'for the sake of brutality and all things heavy' like other greats focused on.
@FyreofShadow10 сағат бұрын
Songs like Learning to Live are the perfect example of that, honestly. It's writing for the sake of the music instead of writing for the sake of getting a reaction out of a crowd.

Question for Portnoy: what is his favorite type of fart for percussion? Does he prefer a high pitched airy one for a crash or a low pitched one with a hum for a floor Tom?

Welcome back portnoy . Like the style of vocals and video showing flashbacks. Nice guitaring 🎸🎶👍🏻👏🏻

Definitely better than Night Terrors. Way more interesting musically. For the record, Derek had a lot of guitar-sounding keyboard solos on Falling into Infinity. Those were peak DT synth sounds on that album imo.

@marcusjohnson541210 сағат бұрын
Out of context jazz and organ solo? Perhaps with no lyrics it'd make more sense to me. The musicianship is undeniable. Incredible piece despite its disconnected parts held together only by the drums and bass.
@ge27197 сағат бұрын
yeah, it especially doesn't fit with the video. Get the feeling this album is going to be a bit hit and miss. hopefully they get their groove back
@TheTachy0n39 минут бұрын
@@ge2719 I mean, the jazzy piece comes when depicting the soliders dealing with their traumaus through partying and drinking so it's not out of left field but it's definitely quite a shift in the song.

I like this even better than Night Terror. I am not a big fan of the Chorus on Night Terror. This seems like a much "cooler" tune. I like NT a lot but Broken Man, to my ears is a step above. Ask Mike, if the guys Mike and John will ever go back to playing through amps? Im sure the answer is no but it adds such a great look to a rock show. I mean just look at the Extreme set on the last tour. So great. I think the DT guys have gotten away from that, especially during the Mangini years. I know they got rid of the click track which is awesome but keep it going bring back live amps and cabinets/

Every one knows MP is an amazing drummer, but after he left DT and Mangini put a couple albums out with them, people were like 'wait a minute, Mangini is a better drummer!' It seemed like DT got MORE technical (if it were even possible) with Mangini. I've said all that to say this.....I think Mikey P. got tired of hearing that, so he listened to the Mangini DT albums and got a taste of there flavor flav , and made sure he put together some tasty tracks on this album that prove to the world that he's back , and still has what it takes, and is competitive as ever .

@fabianodigital7 сағат бұрын
They wouldn't need to be so explicit in starting this song influenced by Jinjer's I Speak Astronomy (which one is infuenced by Rush's YYZ)
