Cities and Prefectures have mascots. Marketing products and giving an identity to the area. Aomori prefecture is famous for apples. So for some weirdo reason they made a cat face on an apple. They often make weirdo choices for mascots. It is a must do to buy a mascot souvenir when visiting an area. The drummer idea was brilliant ha ha.

As much as I heard this character backstory, it's a cat that fell from the apple tree and got reborn as an apple. As for the character name - "nyan" is "meow" in Japanese, and apple in japanese is "ringo", so here's Nyango Star the drummer for you.

In a totally unrelated note you should really check out the Legendary Japanese Nu-Metal band Maximum the Hormone. They have a great drummer called Nao Kawakita who is really talented, has a quirky sense of humour and has a remarkably similar style and as Nyango Star .... in fact there is even videos of Nyango Star playing drums with Maximum the Hormone ... but as I said totally unrelated and I am in no way suggesting that Nyango Star is Nao Kawakita ... not suggesting that all all ... never ... they are clearly totally separate and distinct entities ... Nyango Star is of course an undead cat spirit reborn as an apple and any coincidences like the early videos appearing just when she stopped touring due to difficult pregnancies and not appearing live until after the birth of her 2nd daughter are just that ... coincidences. So just to make myself clear - it's an undead cat spirit possessing an apple and not Nao Kawakita .... it is not a suit ... it is not a suit being worn by Nao Kawakita!!!! In all seriousness though people should check out Maximum the Hormone and it's drummer who may or not be Nyango Star.

I must correct myself. Please forgive my error. Nao Kawahiita is a drummer/singer for Maximum the Hormone, a Japanese hybrid-metal band. She was born in 1975 so she is in her 40s. I had her confused with Junna. My bad... But her size, playing style, and playful demeanor makes her the best likely candidate to be Nyangostar! Peace!
