Melodic Deathcore is bands like Shadow of Intent and Fit for an Autopsy. It’s essentially a modernized version of Melodic Death Metal, but with more intensity, more breakdowns, grooves, chugs, etc., and tends to use more downtuning and double bass blasts and bursts. However, it also has guitar solos, harmonizing leads, hook-ish big choruses, and thrashy verses, with a stronger focus on emotion.

Blackened Thrash is the best kind of Thrash. This from someone who was about 18yrs old in 1986, enjoying the best years of the heyday of Thrash. But now I prefer the grimy, evil, sounding kind. Sodom, Kreator, Aura Noir, Hellripper, Ares Kingdom... The further back you go, with Sepultura's discography, the better they get (Cavalera re-recordings: all amazing)! I love Bathory's Blackened Thrash albums, Requiem and Destroyer Of Worlds (Requiem deserves a replay and reapraisal by anyone who is not sure about it, bearing in mind it's rabid ferocity and lunatic asylum, nutjob, vocals). I find Conjure And Command, Toxic Holocaust's Blackened Thrash Metal album, to be their best one and I even find that band, Witchery, to be very good, too. And so is some stuff by another recent band called Black Fast, as well. Slayer: best of the 'Big 4' (probably Blackened Thrash). I'd put Blackened Thrash right up there on the top tier, ahead of just normal Thrash because normal Thrash has Anthrax in it, so it can sometimes be 🤮

I am little surprised that "Progressive Death Metal" was not one of the listed genres, especially since there was Brutal DM and Melodic DM and Technical DM. I find Progressive Death Metal much more tolerable than Progressive Metal. Looking at my music collection I prefer Blackened Death Metal and Blackened Thrash Metal to their non-blackened counterparts.

If you think that the symphonic aspect of symphonic metal inexorably ruins the metal aspect, you probably haven't listened to Therion's Secret of the Runes. Just turn on the intro track (Ginnungagap) or, idk, Nifelheim or Jotunheim and tell me straight in the face that it's somehow less fucking metal than a high quality heavy/power metal record (plus the drumming and the bass work on this LP are top notch) or that the symphonic part not adds to how massive and heavy these songs are.

This video got awkward when you put Symphonic Metal in Unlistenable because that's my favorite Subgenre of Metal... That's okay though everyone loves different aspects of Metal for me I love lots of Instruments and one Instrument that's my favorite is Violins like you toss a Violin in a song and I love it. Another thing I love about Symphonic Metal is it just feels grand if that makes sense, I also feel like Classical and Metal just compliment each other very nicely. My Holy Metal Trinity is Symphonic, Folk, and Power Metal. Also gotta say use to only like 2 Deathcore bands probably wouldn't put it in Unlistenable but I love Lorna Shore and Brand of Sacrifice which maybe they're Melo Deathcore I don't know subgenres get confusing

Crossover Thrash Metal is one of my favorite genres, as someone who grew up in the 80s. Think Suicidal Tendencies, DRI, SOD, MOD, Agnostic Front(some albums like Cause For Alarm and One Voice), Crumbsuckers, Pro-Pain, Ludichrist, Excel, Carnivore, later Exploited, Cro-mags, etc. It basically means bands who crossed over from Punk to a more metal sound

Symphonic Metal? Unlistenable? Ouch. To be fair, I don't listen to it frequently anymore. I remain fond of it because it played an essential role for me, by providing a slow introduction to growls. I went from (barely) tolerating them to appreciating them and other vocal styles prevalent in more extreme genres of metal. Definitely agree on the "holy trinity" you mentioned of thrash metal, black metal, and death metal. 🖤

Symphonic bands treat the orchestral elements like a gimmick instead of like proper instruments. Either the guitars (chugga chugga chugga...) or the orchestra must musically suffer because the bands are not creative or clever enough to meld the two. There is ONE exception for me, and that's Haggard.

Crossover: this term can mean anything but initially Crossover (in Metal) was a mix of Thrash Metal and Hardcore Punk, stuff like D.R.I. or Suicidal Tendencies. If you are a Thrash Metal fan you should definitely check out D.R.I. Industrial Metal: Come on, Rammstein is NOT Industrial Metal. Industrial Metal is stuff like Godflesh, Malhavoc, Ministry, Malformed Earthborn, Meathook Seed, Optimum Wound Profile etc. Doom: If you listen only to Black Sabbath because of the Blues influences you should check out some old school Sludge bands. Sludge is basically a mix of Doom Metal, Blues, Hardcore Punk and somtimes also Psychedelic Rock. EyeHateGod even call their music "Southern Hardcore Blues". Dopethrone are also very Blues influenced. Generally Sludge deserves a category of its own. Also i somehow miss Crust Punk and D-Beat here. Bands like Amebix and Discharge had a massive influence on all extreme Metal genres from Thrash Metal and Black Metal to Death Metal and Grindcore. Bands who combine Crust and Black Metal a.k.a "Blackened Crust" are also worth mentioning for instance Martyrdod, Young And In The Way or even some mid phase albums of Darkthrone. And i miss War Metal on this list.

Huge BM fan here, but I also love Symphonic and Pirate and on the other hand Thrash Metal never did anything for me. Also hate Nu Metal the most. Funny how tastes are so different that they are not even reasonable subsets of each other (although I do admit my taste might be on the more uncommon side).

I can explain Cross over thrash. If you didn't know thrash metal has some Punk influences. Cross over has just that ever more punk where it's more noticeable. Bands like Cryptic Slaughter, Hyrax, Municipal Waste ect..... It's literally Thrash metal with more Punk added too it
