Hi Mad, in my region there is still a living witness of those times, the last Partisan of the Maiella Brigade, Gilberto Malvestuto. today he is 101 years old. This song is always a tribute to a man who has given it our freedom. An unbridgeable debt. "Bella Ciao" is the song of free and democratic Italy. ;) every people who rebels against tyranny, against oppression, must feel it is theirs.

The song of the Italians heroes that fight the nazi/fascists scum during the second world war. Listen the modern version of Modena City Ramblers.

it feels very good when people react to the actual song meaning. For me it's very valuable, especially cuz my grandfather was a partisan in ww2 and survived until 2019, poor soul spent at 100 years and he always narrated me and my brothers stories of the frontier. I don't recall any of them being happy or ending without some casualties. Glad there were people like him fighting the fascism/nazism, without them we would have been liberated far, far later

Originally this song, whose lyrics have been modified, was a feminist song : the song of the women who worked in the rice fields of northern Italy and had to face hard working conditions and the inappropriate behaviour of their male bosses. It's only during the war that this song with adapted lyrics was sung by the Partigiani, who were fighting the fascist regime of Mussolini and the nazis.

Tom Waits made an excellent cover (in English) of this song. The translation also is accurate and very well adapted imho. Different mood, softer, more like a bluegrass ballad. I strongly recommend it to you, I loved it :)

We must stop comparing Ukraine to the Italian Resistance. We cannot speak of any similarity for various reasons: in Ukraine those who fight are the official army and not the partisans, guerrillas. Then the Italian Resistance was united by what? From anti-fascism. In Ukraine the fascist forces make up the Ukrainian armed forces and this is undeniable. The Ukrainian struggle is nationalist, it has been since 2014 (civil war in Ukraine and war in Donbass) and it is not anti-fascist. The Italian partisan struggle was as historians say: a civil war (between Italians), a class struggle (communists), a national liberation struggle against the Nazis. The Italian partisans (communists, socialists, from GL, Christians) fought against the Italian fascists, had developed an anti-fascist conscience and had developed a political choice that led to the Resistance, to the armed political struggle against Italian or German fascism (indeed, especially the Communists had more difficulty in attacking the Germans than the Italians because the Fascist Italians CHOOSE to fight and were not sent). I then add a final verse sung only by the Communists (the Italian Resistance was mainly composed of Communists): "His flag was red o bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao his flag was red and it said Freedom. His flag was red and it said Freedom."

This is the anthem of the partisan restitution against the fascists / Nazism of the Second World War where in Germany there was Hitler's Nazism and in Italy the Fascism of Benito Mussolini with the revolution to free ourselves from the fascist dictatorship we found ourselves as allies of Nazi Germany at the time by enemies and fumo invaded by them .. Over the years this song has become a hymn of freedom all over the world . Sung in 9 languages my favorite version is the version of Modena city Rembles Then the worldwide success exploded for having put her in the Netflix series The House of Papel Also that a nice version is also the version made by the French Or the remix version of Hardwell and Maddix

I was writing a book about fascist and nazi massacres in Italy after 2 years of research. Unfortunately I can't do it, the violence and wickedness of the fascists and Nazis in those massacres is unlimited and I can't read or write certain things.

stai esplorando la musica italiana e mi piace molto. Un consiglio inizia dalla musica classica italiana e ti garantisco che troverai tutta la musica che ha ispirato quella moderna. Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Ruggero Leoncavallo, Claudio Monteverdi, Pietro Mascagni, Vivaldi e tutti fino ad arrivare a Morricone. Ti puoi divertire e sentire musica eterna.
