They slowed down for those albums dude. They still stayed heavy. And since then they sped back up. Also there was at least one fast thrashy song on each of those albums. Those are four of my favourite metal albums btw because the song writing was so amazingly good, can't say the same of recent Metallica. I wouldn't care if they did a disco album as long as the songs were well written. Listen to Reckoning Day, Random Acts or Deaths Head compared to St Anger- it's like night & day

both Kirk and Dave use pentatonics, but Dave solos are pretty the same:bending in the 1st string (17 fret for example) he goes up the strings to the 6th, and then he goes down to the 1st, ending with a bending. A lot of solos are like that, at least Kirk solos are a little more versatile (I know the wah wah thing, but solos are different between them). Btw, shreds doesn't mean "shred well" you have to admit Dave is dirty, untidy, just listen no life til leather demo. Kirk did a GREAT job on that
@DowntownTB13
@DowntownTB13 14 жыл бұрын
@kavendg1 no, ron mcgovney was there first bassist. he recorded the no life till leather demo with them. than he quit and they asked cliff to join. than he died on sept 12 1986 (sob) and then they hired jason, and he left in 2001, than they hired rob in 2004. just thought i'd let you know ;)

yes, but have you heard that demo? He took that solos as a base and put something of his own, the solos aren't the same, similar but not the same... and I was talking about he did a great job technically. If you hear the demo solos, they sound like shit technically, and I'm not talking about the recording quality, I'm talking about how Dave played them... if you hear Kill Em All solos, they're played extremely good, fast and with an awesome technique... that's what I mean when I prefer Kirk...

Slayer, Megadeth,Testament, Exodus, Anthrax all stayed true to their roots. Metallica was spoiled my too much money, success and being surrounded by yes men. Even on the Big Four tour the way James talked to the crowd you would think they were only there to see Metallica and that the other bands were the opening acts.
@allenbass6169
@allenbass6169 6 жыл бұрын
The other bands pretty much were. Metallica led the way man. Aint nobody on this earth would know Mechanix was a song had not Metallica remade it into a better song and had to listen to Mustaine cry over it ever since. Metallica led the way with going mainstream. The audience got broader and people started giving other bands like Slayer and Megadeth a chance. Metallica is the best. Can't deny that. They led the way and the other bands were following.

Since the damn reply button has been taking away for some unknown reason, I'll say this: xDiscipleOfTheWatchx it's most likely over with Metallica being amazing like they used to be, nowadays they'll just make ordinary heavy rock/whatever is commercial, fusion, "enlightened and mature", polished music and pretend to "push the envelope". I'd say just move on to a band like Maiden if you can get into them and forget about Metallica for now. ***** the reason why Metallica gets so much hate for turning out the way they did is because they mattered so much. they had such a huge cult following in the underground alone prior to the Black album. they where like the first great American metal band, and they where taking the reigns from the older generation like Sabbath and Maiden and Priest and Motorhead and reinventing how metal can be done. their fans got into them because they started all the thrash was going on in the underground, and that they where bashing the crap out of glam and all it's 80s fake, cheesy, typical 80s living-in-the-moment success with no commercialism whatsoever, and believed in them. they believed that they where miraculously going to be the one American band that was going to make it without compromising their music in order to strike it rich and get famous, that they were going to make it by their own strong musical integrity and merit. they where rebels, outlaws, they yeah, never made music to please nobody, and they wrote and sang what they felt, but then, they caved in and made the album that they knew would get sold to all these fucking jocks and meatheads out of nowhere to get successful. they stopped being everything they ever stood for and took the easy way out. they didn't change naturally like you may think so, they changed artificially. they got scared to actually see if they could make it to the top, "to fucking rule the world" the way they originally set out to, so when they tried to simplify their sound, they ended up polishing and streamlining it so much that it had little traces of the original magic that they had. Being mega successful and popular and rich as hell doesn't mean shit in the eyes of a dedicated fan, what matters is the music plain and simple, and whether they want to try and change for the better or not and they think that their changing for every little demographic is "mature" is falling on deaf ears if they can't even make something remotely close to their first 4 albums. the expectation for Metallica was set so high because they set it that way when Cliff was high, and then they blew it. I'm not even talking about pure thrash anymore, I'm talking about their music as music, and I've got to say that alot of it was a fail. Sure, they tried to be bluesy, but guess what? it didn't work and the quality of it was awful. they're not Zeppelin and never will be, they don't have that natural finesse to change genres and actually make it sound good. oh, and Lars' opinion is not to be taken seriously. he's not in touch with metal fans at all, and he can barely play drums like he used to. he's only good at being rich now, but I'm not even sure about that since he insists on wasting his money on stupid fedoras
