Fun fact: Although bassist Geezer Butler wrote the lyrics to Iron Man, Ozzy came up with the concept. He had an idea about a time traveller who explores the universe, only to be turned into solid metal and when he returns to Earth he takes out his anger on humanity - Geezer Butler did the rest. Ozzy wanted to call the song, 'Iron Bloke'.

I think this is just beyond awesome. Metallica, one of the biggest metal bands out there, playing one of the greatest songs from the most influential and biggest metal band of all time, Black Sabbath. It almost brings tears to my eyes. Think how much Black Sabbath has influenced metal and rock n' roll and made an impact on music and generations of people to come. Getting their recognition in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by none other than the amazing Metallica. And they did a spectacular job of doing so. Jame's voice is superb here and it's all done so well.

This drummer doesn't do it. He can't play this song like the original guy. No matter how many cymbals or rides or picks he has. He can't cop to the drummer's melody, or creative rhythm.Believe me, I've tried! The first Black Sabbath drummer is the best there is, in my opinion. The guitars were strong and exciting, but the singer was lacking in places. Places that Ozzy would've filled.

I remember the first time I could play the Iron Man riff on guitar and I paraded around my room stomping around like Rob jamming on it. I am sure James, Lars, Kirk and Rob all did the same. Now imagine that you are grown up. You are friends with Ozzy and have toured with him. You are now asked to induct Black Sabbath in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All of a sudden you are that teenager all over again, except instead of Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler posters in your bedroom, they are in front of you. That is pretty damn awesome for Metallica. And three years later, they were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

@Goabnb9410 жыл бұрын
CarelessWhispers ASMR Tony has played in lower tunings even at Drop C or C standard or whatever, because he lost the tips of his fingers and the lower tunings reduce the stress on his fingers, as well as give the heavy, doomy sound Black Sabbath is known for. Metallica have, up until Load, been almost entirely in E standard, with exceptions like The Thing That Should Not Be and Sad But True which are in Drop D. Metallica (and Megadeth) now play with lower tunings, generally a half step/whole step down in live shows to make it easier for James and Dave to sing, as their vocal chords aren't good enough to play in E standard anymore. I don't think Metallica have ever played in anything below D.

Hey look, another person that doesn't know good drumming.
@flacidhouse3506 жыл бұрын
@Shallex Rides are crutches. They are the easiest cymbal to ride and they sound the most boring. A ride is basically a hammock for the drummers right hand to rest in so that it doesn't get tided. Lars says fuck that. Put a china there. You want to hear ride, listen to The Doors.
@flacidhouse3506 жыл бұрын
@Shallex But a China isn't a crutch. It's a much harder cymbal to play. It's like you calling driving stick a crutch. It's the more difficult way to do it. Lars beats the shit out of that china, and the china takes a much harder stroke. A ride bounces almost all of the momentum of the falling stick back up. A China is just a pillow. It absorbs all of the momentum. It's twice as much work. That's why drummers can ride rides faster than anything else. That's why they are call rides. The Ride wasn't crucial to any of those sounds. It was present. Kill 'Em All is a pretty lame album. The sound is much better without the ride so your argument that he's compromising his sound without it is also pretty lame. The China replaced the ride is the spacial sense only. They aren't doing the same job. The China is taking hits away from the Hat. He doesn't need or want a ride. The ride was never important. He rarely used it so he took it off his kit. It was a crutch he did not need. If Mike Portnoy subtly dropped his snare drum and no one complained about it for years because the transition was seamless I would applaud his ingenuity. The ride has no importance in rock and roll. Plenty of drummers don't use them. Hi Hats are important. Rides are optional.

Vocals in the beginning were a little put on to sound like Ozzy but then he used his own voice which works much better. Good show.

This is a good cover. Let me say that #1 NO ONE can duplicate Iommi's sound because those magic fingers that work the fret board are not his fingertips! If you know your Sabbath history then you know why Tony has custom made fingertips. Therefore Tony had to tone down his guitar to get a sound that made sense an whala! Doom was born! And #2 NO ONE can sing like Ozzy, he is one of a kind. BUT Ozzy was successfully replaced when Tony sought out DIO and Sabbath was reborn! And #3 NO ONE can sing like Dio and he can NEVER be replaced. So in my humble opinion Metallica did a good job. And all the aforementioned are ICONS!!

+Schenker Fan I like to put it into the nero program and make it echo to just the right amount, then I listen to the intro on echo over and over, i's so awesome that it would be considered radical

Still not used to James being a good singer in the "traditional" sense. And yes, Metallica sounds great covering Sabbath. (If you're a metal band and you DON'T sound great covering Sabbath, well...)

+ParkerPlaysDrums he used to use a ride back in the day
@juulpod97189 жыл бұрын
not on the saint anger tour. He used a ride all the way up to and justice then stopped. he continued during the load tour but after the tour he has stopped once again
@loganswank527 жыл бұрын
ParkerPlaysDrums He only uses one on songs that require it, for example this song requires a ride and when they perform bleeding me or acoustic shows. We all want him to use one but he says they take up room
@alejandrojaramillo61567 жыл бұрын
agree with you, but he used the ride cymbal back in the death magnetic tour, in some of their concerts they played " Bleeding me" and lars played with a ride, also the last year he played with it in acoustic shows, greetings from Colombia

ParkerPlaysDrums I’m pretty sure on justice tour he had a second hi hat in place of the ride then he switched to a china
