guaripoio Did Cliff know alot about music? Was he on Metallicas most famous records? Could he shred the fukking bass? Yes. But if you look up what Fleming (I think it was) had to say about him he'll say Cliff was a very sloppy player and it was tough to get a clear recording. He even said it was easier to record with Jason. Let's not forget Rob is in his 50's, he's had his whole life to educate himself and learn more stuff. Compared to bananas Cliff was still green when he passed, Rob is turning brown now. It's not fair to compare these 2.

@@ihavewaited90daystochangem51 Djent is very much not defined by its bass sound. Djent derives its name from a very specific way of palm-muting GUITAR strings. Also, you never actually heard any Djent bands right? Otherwise you'd know bands like Tesseract, Uneven Structure and Periphery, that play quite intricate stuff, if more rhythm focused songs don't do it for you. Yes, there exist songs, that are based around only a handful of frets, but these songs tend to be very rhythm focused and have their intricacies in the rhythm department (polymeters, polyrhythms, odd note groupings, odd time signstures etc.). Meshuggah's Bleed or After The Burial's Wolf Amongst Ravens coming to mind. Very few notes in the main riff, but very groovy riffs with quite a bit going on concerning timing and so on. Also, that song has quite an awesome guitar solo. Have a nice day.

Noticed the same! He's like "Lars, you got it still" xD Nice to see how James noticed Robert in the part where they were playing together with Kirk and Lars and Rob came a bit later there to jam.. @Shallex To me it sounds like he came 1 sec too early with the double bass, need to go listen to the album version again. But even if Lars did come in a little late with the double bass, it's a understanable error, it's a hard song and they don't play it very often.

Rob finally gives Metallica back that soul at the bass they've missed since Cliff. He's completely all-in on the part and why the bass functions like a lead guitar in the Metallica.
@juanmanuelcorrea76737 жыл бұрын
No, I'm sorry but no. This song is literally the only one where Rob is partially noticed (I mean, this song is practically a bass solo). Rob gets lost, and his presence is literally nonexistent in songs where the bass requires PRECISION like MoP, Ride the lighting, Battery, etc. That didn't happen when Jason was around. I had the privilege to attend one of Metallica's best concert during their peak in 1989 (Seattle). You had to be in that concert to truly feel Jason's influence in the band. In fact, Hetfield and Lars acknowledge that the reason why 1986-1992 was Metallica's peak was because of Jason (In Some Kind of Monster). The bass does not function like a lead guitar in Metallica. With the exception of 2-3 songs (Orion, THE INTRO of For whom the bell tolls, and Anesthesia). But that's.... 3 out of like 70 songs? Burton didn't really write bass lines for the majority of MoP and RTL, Jason wrote Blackened's riff but yet justs follows the guitar except for The Shortest Straw in some parts and My Friend of Misery. Rob? Rob has not written a single bass line in 14 years that he's been in the band. He hasn't contributed anything major that will be stuck in the fans. In fact, in Hardwire, he literally just gallops the open E. Sorry but Hetfield and Lars don't give too much respect to the bass, not just the player, but the instrument itself (Lars and Hetfield literally turned down the bass in AJFA and sneakily turned down Cliff's bass in MoP and RTL except for some songs although I don't blame them for turning down Cliff). This is my opinion btw.

+Juan Correa Sorry but your opinion is just shit. Rob gets lost and his presence is nonexistent in songs where the bass requires precision? Just what the fuck is that? His presence is felt trust me... You went to Seatle, man I really envy you I wish I was there but I wasn`t born yet... But have you been to a concert post 2008? Rob fucking kills it everytime. His bass sound is killer so no, his presence is not lost at all. Rob has not written a bass line? Wrong again, he did not write an intire song all by himself but in DM All Nightmare Long was influenced alot by his flamingo techniques and My Apocalypse too. In Hardwired he wrote ManUnkind and the begining part with the solo is beautiful, its a tribute to Cliff... Also in most behind the scenes videos about the new album you see him, Lars and James (but no Kirk, wtf?) discussing ideas and you see some parts of him in the songs like in Spit out the Bone. Jason only influenced the bands attitude, nothing else, because as far as bass playing goes, Jason was mediocre and he was in fact the one that got lost most of the time and if it wasn`t for his attitude and back vocals the fans wouldnt give a shit about him.
@juanmanuelcorrea76737 жыл бұрын
Little Hunter Jason was mediocre? Ummm I guess Blackened is a mediocre song as well as my friend of misery. Having in mind that he wasnt even permitted to contribute. Sorry but your opinion is shit as well. Also, he wrote amazing songs in the Newsted band. That's right, full songs and not just riffs.
