75% of these comments are negative... "Rob sucks, Jason is better"' "I hate the new Metallica sound" "Kirk's solo was shit", how about this was fucking badass. No many band's can have an ex-band member play with them AND their replacement, bravo Metallica. Btw all three of Metallica's mainstream bassists are kickass, I love them all, Cliff helped the band cement itself into music history and pushed it into the spotlight, Jason took the expectations of Cliff and fulfilled them well, and helped create more anthems as Cliff did with them, now Robert hasn't been in the band for long, but with him the band has continued to thrive and helped them get over their rough spot in 2003, overall Metallica has never "sucked" they just simply have underrated songs people think suck....

Tell me about it. Metallica has shown me how narrow minded people can be, alot of people have had some blinders on since the black album. AND they all say the same shit. hair cuts, lars sucks, kirks wah, James' voice, now Rob isn't as good as Jason. It's ridiculous. I think it was lars that said "we would've been playing it safe if we made and justice for all 2". It might've been James, but that's the right outlook in my opinion. People do not understand the needs musicians/artists have. These needs are important without them we generally won't or don't have music as art, it's just general ignorance. But I still Find it dumb founding

There was an interview Jason did a few years back where he made it very clear that James was the reason he left. He was being a real dick about the whole Echobrain thing and was trying to crush out Jason's opportunity with the project and was issuing threats regarding Jason's place in the band, even though none if it affected Hetfield or Metallica in any capacity. Even Metallicas management were very much on board with it and were keen to sign them until James had that shut down. Jason said Kirk was very supportive of the whole thing and said nothing bad about Lars either. The impression I got was that Lars didn't really have any issue with it, but was stuck in the middle of James and Jason somewhat and was trying to avoid taking sides or being in the firing line. Just my impression mind you, but Jason nonetheless made it very clear - James was the key reason he left the band.

@briandrum110 жыл бұрын
I could not agree any more. Jason brings a certain meanness/energy to the band that Rob simply cannot bring, no matter how long he's in the band, or how hard he tries. His stage presence does not gel w/ the other 3 either. Even though he's the same age, he looks like a kid up there w/ his baggy shorts, basketball jerseys and Vans. I still love the band, but they lost something when Jason quit.

I agree as well man! I couldn't have said it any better myself! The backing vocals are bad too. Rob just doesn't gel with them as a look, playing style, everything. Metallica thought he was a good fit. Better than the other guys who auditioned in "Some Kid Of Monster". But that's their choice. I've only seen Metallica 2 times with Rob and don't care for it.
@MaximusAwesomenus9 жыл бұрын
Agreed. It was a professional choice imo. Metallica is a gigantic touring machine who already made it decades ago, they're just looking for someone to properly fill the slot. I don't have any blame for the choice, I think it was a good one but with that being said it isn't the same melt your god damned face off Metallica that we knew in the 80s-90s!

+lolerz222 I don't know that there's really any way to determine who was "the best", but, Jason certainly has the benefit of being the one who was in the band the longest, and therefore probably is ingrained in our minds from having been seen more than any of the other 3, including Burton.

Started to listen to Metallica when Jason was in, so it's their bass player, to me. But I've maximum respect for Burton and Trujillo, of course.

Bring Jason back in the band for good. His bass style and vocal were so important to the sound of Metallica in their prime.

ONLY way I pay another 200 bucks to get front row to see these guys is if Jason returns. Best band I've ever seen live though. Legends!
