Hey Spencer, I appreciate the illusion of choice theme of this video. All things considered, I have found the most needed aspect of small engine ownership is in basic maintenance. The gear that keeps my engines running well is not sold next to the equipment, I had to seek out and order the critical stuff like my 1 liter Jasper fuel bottle, good raker depth gauges, bar cleaning tool, tuneup kits, etc. At my tree job I,ve grown to regret large backpack blowers because it fools people into skipping the rake, usually to poor effect Too often I see 20 minutes of dusty, noisy blowing, which gets the debris 10-20 feet closer to the truck only to complicate further transport with a balled up bulky blob of debris. Debris, like all matter cannot be created or destroyed, it ultimately needs to be picked up, until it is dust- then blow it off. However, the huge blower is really nice when you need to clear leaves from a job site before starting tree work.

Astute and I completely agree. I always prefer to rake debris … gotta get it outta there not just move it around. Yet I find it to be a timesaver and better than a broom for sawdust on large paved surfaces. Tradeoffs

Someone said me going with a backpack blower is overkill but hey, I love getting jobs outside fast to beat the sun , got myself that Wildbadger.

Stihl BR800 and I never looked back. Can move wet leaves sticks and muck or finese small wood chips. It is a beast but once ya know then ya be knowing! Bonus is the side pull for easy starts without taking it off. If ya have big property its a must. IMHO
@metaspencer3 ай бұрын
that side pull start design is super cool -- I cheaped out and didn't test one of those babies, but it's on my list if and when my current blowers fail
@BigBlackTruckDave3 ай бұрын
@@metaspencer as you know its not tiny but it is very managable. I usually prime n first start it on the ground. Once its warm you can stop and 1 pull start back up easy peasy. The trottle is smooth and its great to have that power when ya need it. I "lol" at small blowers now...I know they have a purpose too... Spoiled I am but 'Once Ya Know!' 😁

“Illusion of choice” -definitely agree… I’ve got Huskys largest blower, I’ll probably get that echo or stihls largest one next just to try something different. Great vid/info as per usual!

And i'll probably move to the Husky or Stihl biggies next ... as you said just to try something else

I just got a Stihl BR 800 CE - the collapsible tube and little storage hook save a lot of space. Lots of power. So far so good.

Bought the BR800CE Magnum a few years ago and love it. It's a bit heavy for my skinny frame, but it really gets the job done. I wouldn't buy the front pull start if I could do it over--the regular 800 with the pull start handle is fine and saves a few dollars.

I've heard good things about those blowers, man -- and where you are I'm guessing there are PLENTY of leaves. Hey, did my first oil change on the moto yesterday and found it surprisingly easy. Prolly should have done it sooner hahaa ... dang that thing is fun to ride.

In your rake quest did you run into the Groundkeeper rake? with the metal spring tines. It's Super light but extremely aggressive. Check it out if not.

Those springs look intense! I’ve totally gotta try it … a good rake is a money maker out there

Isn't there an old saying "A good Operator can make any tool do his bidding, but a good tool can make a bad operator look less bad... sometimes." Hah Or something like that. You know what I mean....?

They work excellent for moving chips and can do a mean job detaching lawn if your not gentle

The big echo is bad ass! Also, at home I have the electric echo blower and it's surprisingly good for battery. You are right about storing the big blowers, keep them inside the chipper chute. LMAO @ the election joke for real.

inside the chipper shoot! good choice there ... beats wearing it while driving between jobs :)
