Because the children are very disrespectful and get away with it. That's the real reason...no accountability.

YES...teachers want to teach, not deal with behavior all day long.

The problem is the BEHAVIOR!!!!!!

The fact that teachers qualify for food stamps because of low wages is really jaw dropping. It is not surprising there is a teacher shortage. Teachers have college degrees and marketable skills. They do not have to stay in teaching. There is a certain point when it is no longer worth it. The expectations and student disciplines have gotten worse and for many teachers this has pushed them past that tipping point. Once past it they start looking for a higher paying state or an entirely new career, which since they have a university degree equates to them leaving in droves.

Over 200 standards to teach in 180 days. Now add all the expectation that a teacher will teach each child their own individualized curriculum and having no help, no support, no materials, and no curriculum. Then on top of teaching all day, teachers are required to be data managers, plan lessons, search for materials for those lessons, now add paperwork, and various data entry tasks. Then have kids acting out, refusing to work, ....There are not enough hours to do it all, and no one human can meet all the needs presented in 1 class, while also teaching to the many tests the kids take.

Also...to sub a subject im not familiar with i have to cram the night before if I am even sent the lesson plan ahead of time. There was zero expectation for me to do that. I prefer not teaching. I feel like a normal adult again

Does not compete with jobs with some paid parental leave, flex scheduling, remote component, mental space. Add the issues with pay, expectations, and devolved behavior... this is a solidly "not worth it" job in today's economy.

Can we say that teaching is a entry level job and if so can they allow any body to teach

Suggestion: the consultants are forever telling us how to teach, devising mandatory methodologies, curriculum directors have demands which must be obeyed, principals know exactly how to handle all the discipline problems in a classroom, parents are always free with advice. So, teachers, let the loudmouths teach, and we will just watch.

On top of $ I've seen plenty of interviews of teachers that are not safe in the classroom anymore. What about the dangers in the classroom? kids with no home training, followed by their parents catching attitude with teachers, the potential threat of shootings/stabbings.

THE BEHAVIOR!!!!!

Much of the public believes teachers have it made because they are off all summer. Most have to take on a summer job or take professional development courses that are required for their teaching certificate. So there really is no down time to decompress from the regular school year’s stress.

Are we sure this person doesn't need an extra job because they are driving a Jeep Wrangler and has expensive photography equipment??? From what I hear, the real issue is teacher don't feel supported nor heard by central office administrators. They don't feel valued by students nor administrators. Sure, more pay helps but it doesn't solve the underlying problem. Teachers are awesome, stop trying to control them from a central office and let them support their kiddos as they see fit!
