Have recently been to Istanbul. They really need to extend their service and build new lines. The city is so huge and highly populated, it can really take long to get around and especially the tram lines (mostly T1) was sometimes too full to get in. Still, was very interesting and they finished all of that within almost just 30 years

By the way, Marmaray's extension from Ayrılıkçeşmesi to Gebze is actually an interprovincial metro, since Gebze isn't a part of Istanbul, but a district of Kocaeli Province. This extension was necessary, since Gebze is the industrial hub of Turkey and many factory workers had to go from Istanbul's Anatolian half to work in Gebze after the government forced many industries out of Istanbul because of pollution.

Having been to Istanbul and used the metro and trams extensively there. I enjoyed their system and I found the expansion to be very pleasing compared to my own city Toronto. I think the main challenge in Istanbul for building and connection is the Bosphorus strait which is actually massive meaning the European and Asian side of their metros feels disconnected. A second major challenge is just how absuredly hilly the area it is. The last and how quickly the city has grown and is growing. Making a tunnel/bridge under/over the Bosphorus on the north side especially one north of 15th July Bridge would help despite engineering and cost challenge. Secondly, improving connections between tram lines to each other, metro station to metro stations, and tram stops to metro lines especially in the Golden Horde would help with ease of transfers and make getting to places like Haghia Sophia from elsewhere all the more easier. The city seems to have recognized and planned ahead on this but making sure lines are built based on future growth is a plus as well. Lastly, getting from Levant to lets say the Anatolian Fortress takes a very long time by bus, part of it is due to traffic but by improving the number the buses on the road would intensively help with travel time, crowding, etc....
@emiroercan2 жыл бұрын
to go from Levent to Asia, just take M2 and leave in Gayrettepe(Zincirlikuyu). Then transfer to the Metrobus and you will be in Kadıkoy in less than 30 minutes. Edit: Taking a bus from Levet to Zincirlikuyu Metrobüs is much faster, there is a bus almost every minute. Google maps won't show Metrobus line in it's public transport mode but it is extremely useful and quite fast compared to any other mode of transport. Sometimes even faster than cars lol.

Especially M4 and M5 fully on their own without any crossover with others metro lines. And why they have waited until 2014 to finally connect M1 + M2 metro lines ? Back in 2007, if you want to travel between line M1 and M2, you need to : - Leave M1 at Aksaray and taking T1. - Leave T1 at Kabatas and taking F1 to finally join M2 Taksim station. - Or even longer before T1 north extension : leaving T1 at Karaköy, taking F2 to Beyoglu and taking T2 to Taksim. x)

Great video, still completely ignores the fact that Istanbul had an extensive network of trams until Fatih and Beşiktaş (very similar to the “nostalgic” tram in Taksim) up until late 1950’s when the service was shut off due to being seen as “antique” and “slow”, and that was a trend around the world… They realized with the massive growth of the city, metro lines were the solution to go. With all the geographical, political and economic challenges; it is nothing short of amazing how in 30 years all the infrastructure has been bulit and serves the city with reliable transportation.

And topped off with an image of the current mayor İmamoğlu. I remember using Marmaray sometimes, the last time I used it was on a Friday, in May or June.

In have been going Istanbul a lot since 2000 and what they have done in such a short space of time is actauly quite amazing, the one thing that would change my life when I am there is if they finally open the Bahceshir station, I have family and friends there and stay there a lot and it's still a pain to get into town.
@ozanemekter26932 жыл бұрын
The BRT line (Metrobus), although not a rail line, plays a crucial role in this network and is usually included in travel maps. So some seemingly isolated lines here are actually connected by BRT, but it's admittedly not an efficient mode of transport at all.

Dear foreign guests, new extensions in Istanbul Metro are on the way next year. Due to the local elections at the end of March 2024, both the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Ministry of Transportation are working hard to finish as much as work as they can for election propaganda. Please search for the latest map before your visit. Before April 2024, we are expecting the opening of: * Gayrettepe Station of M11 (U1 & U2) line (other expectations mentioned at the end of the video have already been achieved) - Done on the 29th of January, 2024. * T6 line between Kazlıçeşme and Sirkeci which will pass through some of the closed stations of old suburban rail line between Sirkeci-Halkalı (making interconnections with lines M1A, M1B, M2, T1, and Marmaray) - Done on the 26th of February, 2024. * Kirazlı - Bakırköy Extension of M3 line (making interconnections with M1A line and Marmaray) - Done on the 10th of March, 2024 (except "Yıldıztepe" station, which is still under construction). * Çekmeköy - Samandıra Extension of M5 line - Done on the 16th of March, 2024 (except "Sancaktepe Şehir Hastanesi" station, which is still under construction). * Bahariye - Ataköy Extension of M9 line (making interconnections with M1A line and Marmaray) - Done on the 18th of March, 2024 (except "Mimar Sinan" station, which is still under construction). * Istanbul Airport - Arnavutköy Extension of M11 (U1 & U2) line - Done on the 19th of March, 2024

Merhaba. Elinize sağlık. Gördüğüm kadarıyla tek önemli eksik, Marmaray'ın eski hali olan iki banliyö hattını (Sirkeci-Halkalı ve Haydarpaşa-Gebze) göstermemiş olmanız. Hi and thank you. The only important missing thing is the depiction of two train lines Sirkeci-Halkalı and Haydarpaşa-Gebze, which were the old form of Marmaray line.

He does not show in this video, but there was. Before Marmaray line, there were 2 suburban train lines, one between Sirkeci and Halkalı, and the other between Haydarpasa (main railway station of Anatolian side) and Gebze. In 2012, they were closed for modernization and the two were connected via a tunnel under the Bosphorus. You can see the history of Marmaray in the video. There were also minor tram lines before 1960s, but their paths were not separate from normal traffic, i.e. cars and trams were using the same roads. With growing population, this became unsustainable and they were dismantled.
