As we all know now Metroid project Dread has reached completion, and we can all thank Mercury Steam for that with their wowing Nintendo with their work on Metroid Samus Returns. I have completed the game 100% and I can tell you it was worth the wait. Now I don’t want to spoil anything, but I will tell you this much; Samus heads to a new planet after the Galactic Federation sent robots known as E.M.M.Is to the planet to deal with X Parasites, the very same creatures that caused so much trouble in fusion, and when the Federation lost contact with the E.M.M.Is Samus is sent to continue what they started, and upon arriving on the planet Samus is attacked by a living, breathing chozo who is far more powerful than her and for some reason decides to spare her, Samus then wakes up and begins her journey. And that was just the intro I described and summarized, the rest of the game is still awesome

Metroid Prime 2 made scanning much more enjoyable, both because you can easily tell at a glance what was already scanned and because enemies you scan have viewable 3D models, giving you a more visual reward since it allows you to appreciate the detailing on them outside of a combat situation. It's especially incentivizing to scan the bosses since you only get one shot at it.

Really? People don't like scanning in Metroid Prime? I thought that was one of the coolest features of the game! Yeah, it was implemented poorly in certain cases such as missable scans (Flaahgra tentacle? Really?), but it made the world a lot more fleshed out to me by giving biological explanations for how all the enemies have their abilities as well as giving you a fair warning before you shoot something and it explodes in your face. Not to mention all the log entries giving a lot more characterization to not only the chozo, but the space pirates and other tribes throughout the series as well.

shadowchaos5150 The scan Visior was a blast in the first minutes of the game. It gave Metroid Prime a horror like appearence. You are on a damaged space-station, with heavily injured space pirated and you're asking yourself: "What the heck is going on here? What caused that damage?" I was scared like I was playing resident evil or silent hill.

Aura Fox I really liked the scan visor. It was a really great way to learn the lore like you said and it was a great way to help out new players. Plus it was optional so people who did not care about the lore or did not need help did not need it. My only issue was how you needed it to unlock the secret endings. The scan visor made me hate the Spider Ball Guardian in Prime 2 and vise-versa.

Aura Fox It was tedious. You lock onto something & wait a second or two for it to tell you something about a monster your could probably have guessed just by looking at the thing yourself. Either that or it told you something trivial you'd forget immediately after reading. And the worst part is, you needed to do this to EVERYTHING to get 100%. I don't like collecting pointless shit just to get a 100% completion, but I think that's pretty popular in Japan.

I don't know, Nintendo is good at developing games, not storytelling. I prefer the cryptic enigmatic nature of Metroid where the tone and usually story are set by the game. Daniel Ostrowski did you get past the tutorial? If not, then do yourself a favor and continue. The thing that sets this game apart is the level design. The levels aren't intricated mazes, but you can tackle them in various ways. All the areas are connected, and the backtracking never feels like a chore just because of how many new things you can get on your way back. The beam system makes it so you won't just have an extremely OP “wide long plasma wave ice spamkill beam of destruction” by the end. Scanning is, admitedly, a chore and a pain if you want 100% but not really needed to complete the game. The music is also pretty cool but hey, different strokes for different bounty hunters I guess. Hope I've been clear :D

LIQUIDFGC I recall an interview with Kensuke Tanabe (one of the devs of Prime who's had quite an impact on the games) saying that the ship in Prime 3's ending was indeed Sylux and he wanted to make a new "Prime" game focused on stuff like the Galactic Federation and Samus and Sylux's interactions. Of course, the downside is that it would take a looooong time. Like, NX-would-be-out long. Though the fact that they're giving it that much attention is absolutely excellent. LIQUIDFGC Kensueke Tanabe is in talks about the idea of a game concerning a history between Sylux and Samus actually. Which is poor news because Tanabe is currently the man who is trying to kill the series with Federation Force and is being about as shitty of a developer as you can be to your fans without directing raising the middle finger. He blatantly is looking the audience in the eye and claiming the world will automatically love Federation Force "Once it's in their hands" even though he also said he knew everyone would hate it. If Tanabe is making it, there is no hope of your Sylux game being good. There isn't even hope for Metroid if Tanabe continues a career.

***** You're being a little too pessimistic here. Tanabe worked on EVERY Prime game, and quite a few other games too. Plus, how is he being shitty? He just said he expected people would have a violent reaction when they see the game because they're all "I DON'T UNDERSTAND" which is exactly what happened. Furthermore, he's saying that the game will be better with hands-on exposure instead a handful of trailers. Not to mention you don't know if this game's good, or if this new Sylux and Samus Metroid game is good (BECAUSE IT DOESN'T EXIST YET) all because of one Producer of the game? What about all the other people working on it, are they just nothing? Kai Rekdahl From what I heard, Retro Studios was going to put in bounties as side missions in Prime 3 but Nintendo disproved of the idea. (She may as well just be employed by the galactic federation then!) You know who else shares that "job"? Captain Falcon from F-Zero. It's a racing game yeah but aside from a couple descriptions of characters, I have never once seen him do it. Same goes for Samus. I don't think Nintendo knows what a bounty hunter is...

SmashBrosPip&Pop Retro Studios is supervising FF as the assistent directors. (In fact the Chibi Art style was Retro's idea, Next Level wanted a comic book style like Ultimate Spider Man) Furthermore Tanebe was one of the scriptwriters for the main Prime Trilogy (Im unsure about Prime Hunters though) I think it's safe to say they're working on Prime 4 as well.

Man i really hope theres gonna be a Metroid title for the NX. Can you imagine...a huge world being able to explore planets and abandoned eerie areas and fly around in space and fight big ass aliens?? A horror based scifi Metroid would be cool as hell!! And with how powerful the NX will be, the graphics and how big the world can be would be massive, it would be the best game ever.

A lot of us would agree with you, and seeing how Gumpei Yokoi isn't with us anymore. He was the very life essence of both Kid Icarus, and Metroid. Respectfully Metroid came first, and then Kid Icarus.

When did Retro ever confirm that? Source please. Not like it means much though, the old director of the Prime series at Nintendo(Takahashi) says they were having internal discussions about the series(2D and 3D) back in 2014.

Gunpei worked on OG metroid and served as general manager for SNES Metroid and obviously had nothing to do with Prime. I'd hardly call him 'very life essence' of Metroid. He could only be called that for the very first game and second if that(he was producer). Even then that game had four creators and Sakamoto was the one who actually directed or supervised development of the games and Kano as scenario writer and co-designer of the second game.

Holy shit! Shine Spark for Metroid Prime 4! That would be so awesome! Especially considering all the back tracking. Can you imagine flying through the air into the sky, rain drops battering your visor, then you reach the top of that high cliff that was so frustratingly out of reach? Or smashing through several layers of wall, in first person? Or solving puzzles by carefully conserving charge and flying at slanted floors, but in 3D??? OMG so much untapped potential!

When they are talking about scanning being boring to U.S. gamers, they're probably not talking about scanning in Prime, but in other games. I live in the U.S., and I've never come across someone who thought the scanning in Prime was boring. And if it is boring, then you can skip it for the most part. And now that Nintendo is finished remastering the 3D Zeldas (except for Skyward Sword, which I honestly don't think they'll do, considering the choices they made for the previous remasters and other fundamental aspects of SS that would make porting difficult), I really, REALLY want them to make a Metroid Prime Trilogy HD. Prime with HD graphics and gyro controls, people!

The main reason scanning in prime worked when it doesn't in other games is that it rewarded you with extraneous lore.

Prime 2 revamping the scanning system was a God's send. You can now know from a glance what's important, what's good for keeping a record of, and what you've already scanned. Also helps that it has a model viewer, incentivizing you to scan enemies and especially bosses. Good thing they thought ahead and gave you an opportunity to scan the Spider Guardian before the fight begins.
