However, now that he's a Met, I found your conversation informative. Thank you! On that note... I would find it really interesting if you guys were able to share your insight on David Stearns and his way of evaluating and going after players... He's doing a great job so far for the Mets but he already has a good track record with the Brewers as well... Perhaps you guys can provide us with a video so we don't freak out each time he signs someone we never expected! Oh, BTW... I just subscribed to your channel...

@TheKilrmy24 күн бұрын
@@carlosalbertosantiago6404 because most are idiots…that’s not a dig at you…all most people see is that he lost his closer job last season and they are too mentally underdeveloped to comprehend the Mets didn’t sign him to be a closer at all and he’s had success starting in the minor leagues AND if starting doesn’t work out he will be their setup man. Too many people on here are truly stupid so they don’t get it.

Regarding the points you guys made regarding Holmes v lefties/righties: Holmes's OPS in '24 was identical against lefties and righties. Definitely agree he needs to work on another pitch to move to a starter spot. Changing eye level? Working on a high four-seamer? If he can throw a 97 MPH sinker on the regular, I have to believe he can throw a 95+ fastball up from time to time.

No different than what Edwin Diaz has been through. Others complaining about the Montas signing saying they should have resigned Severino, meanwhile they probably complained about the Severino signing last season. It’s too many people that just watch the Mets, and don’t know enough about other teams/players, and the sport as a whole, yet they feel the need to make comments like they have a clue.

As a starter, Clay Holmes won't be throwing 95 MPH. One of the Most effective relievers, are you nuts. The guy can not get past any decent lineup, and pitches to contract. A sinker ball pitcher prone to leave way too many over the strike zone, to be hit. Balls put in ball, can find a way of beating you, made worse because the Yankees were a rather poor defensive team.

He has top 10 ERA of relievers with similar IP over the last 3 years
@jamesmichael547524 күн бұрын
@@BKDBut Using ERA to judge the effectiveness of a reliever is very misguided. How many times did Yankee relievers enter games with men on base last season and allow those runners to score, almost nightly. However, those runs and the ineffectiveness of those relievers were not reflected in ERA, because those runs allowed are applied to the starting pitchers ERA, not the relievers, which I am certain pissed off Yankee starters, all season long.

@jamesmichael5475 Holmes had 29 inherited runners last year. 9 scored. Kahnle had 16. 7 scored. Yankee fans will say Kahnle is better than Holmes though? @@jtrades2134 Nope. But Manaea turned into a terrible starter, went to the bullpen, and then the Mets made him into a great starter. He hasn't pitched over 100 innings since 2018. Never reached modern day MLB starter innings levels of 150+ innings. How is he all of a sudden going to start pitching 150+ innings when he's used to 60? $13mil/year for a guy who will have trouble reaching 100 innings? It's not a cheap SP signing when you consider the realistic innings expectations. You said it yourself, he's been one of the most effective RP's in recent years and the Mets make him an SP? You could have resigned Quintana or signed Heaney, Morton, maybe even Buehler for $13/yr, let alone a $38/3year deal. Montas was a big overpay at 2x$17mil. Holmes to an SP is another bad move for the Mets this offseason.
@JamesSchiano24 күн бұрын
Buehler will get more $$ than that and we can probably count on Holmes for 120ish, not 150. But then Lugo and Lopez immediately jumped to 150 once they moved to rotation and Lugo had more time since he was a starter

In Stearns We Trust....
@ilija778824 күн бұрын
@@JamesSchiano Yes, Buehler will probably get more like a 1yr/$15mil, but so will Verlander & Scherzer. That's a 3yr$38mil contract, guys mentioned prev are 1yr deals. Holmes contract makes sense as the set up man for Diaz, not an SP. He's doubled his innings/chances for injuries, when he would have got the same contract to be someone's 60 innings/8th inning guy. Just because Mets got lucky with midrange ($10-$15mil) contracts with Manaea, Severino, & Quintana, does not mean it's a recipe for success. They just spent $30mil on 2 pitchers who will collectively probably pitch somewhere between 200-250 innings collectively, assuming no major injuries. $30mil/yr can get you an ace SP (200 innings), or someone like Eovaldi or Flaherty, paired with a Perez/Lorenzen/Lynn/Gibson, which will equate to 300-350 innings. All I'm saying is, non Mets fans like myself are happy with both of these Mets deals. You can trust Stearns all you want, but they're bad moves.
