I didn't understand that it was made with the milk and it's meant to be that way so I was super tired working at a restaurant and I asked the girl to make me one but with no sugar (I don't do well with sugar) and no milk (I just don't like milk in my coffee). She was like.. uhhh so... just coffee. And I was like "yeah, just coffee". She asked if I wanted water to like make it less strong. And I was like "nope, I love strong coffee and I'm super tired from my other job". Anyways She handed me this coffee that was like almost thick and served on ice and I was tired, thirsty and had to go back to work, so I took the lid off and just downed it. I made an audible "Wooo, damn that's not bad holy smokes that wakes you up" she was staring at me, the older guy was staring at me. I definitely kicked it into high gear and finished that job in record time to say the least.

the traditional and og bánh mì is actually done with cold cuts as both the bread and the meat was inspired by french colonization. if you go to vietnam and order bánh mì, that usually automatically means the filling is meat and cold cuts. new variations have been created over the years and now we have a wide range of types of bánh mì :)

Che Thai is my favorite. I enjoy making it with my mom. They should have done pho with chicken, it’s a lot easier to eat because more people prefer to eat chicken then beef. In my house, my mom makes that more then beef.

I'm always pleased to see people who are so open to trying foods that may look and taste completely different from what they're familiar with. I especially like pho with beef and also the banh mi sandwiches with pork, jalapeno, carrots, cilantro, and cucumber. The best one I had was at a place somewhere in Vegas. I don't remember the name or the location, but it had a reputation for quality. What really stuck out to me was that they used a lot of richly-flavored butter in their sandwiches. It took it to another place. The smoothness and the aroma of the butter was so potent that it was even present despite the cilantro and the jalapeno also asserting themselves. Though in fairness, hunger was an additional spice. This was after a long day presenting at CES. A really good meal after hard work is especially delicious. If I went back to the same restaurant, I'm not sure the food would taste as good. Regardless... use good butter and fresh bread in a banh mi! Regarding the bread, if you have access to a Mexican or Central American grocery store with a bakery, you might be able to find a bolillo. Amazing texture and flavor, and just the right size for a sandwich. And as for the butter, I find that Kerrygold from Ireland makes a really good product. Many grocery stores in the US carry it, in gold or silver packaging depending on whether it's salted or unsalted.

I'm Chinese and I think Vietnamese foods have a lot of similarities with South Chinese foods, especially with Guangxi and Guangdong.
@Bthdk
@Bthdk Жыл бұрын
Very possible because Vietnameses used to live in those 2 areas before being invaded and pushed down south to where we are now. There are still villages inside China that practice Vietnamese culture. Food and culture wise, Vietnameses and Chineses mingled a lot due to the past. Many Chineses ran from China due to wars and persecutions and became Vietnameses.
@weifan9533

@@Bthdk I actually agree with you. Guangdong, Guangxi, and North Vietnam were all once settled by the Baiyue peoples, and they were likely Tai-Kradai speakers. There're still many Tai-Kradai speaking minorities even to this day in South China.

Today’s Vietnamese food is not original or like how it was back in the 1800s-1900s. When the french invaded, many Chinese foods and recipes (even before) were brought to Vietnam. Modern day Vietnamese food is a fusion with Chinese food. Pho and Banh Mi are not authentic Vietnamese food. It’s a fusion of Chinese and French food.
@guyinsf
@guyinsf Жыл бұрын
@@mabv688 There are tons of original central and southern recipes that are still authentically Vietnamese. Your comment is a blanket statement about Vietnamese cuisine and it's not entirely accurate. Yes some dishes had to change due to the the availability of ingredients but not the entire cuisine.
