MGB Easy-Battery Compartment

Some of you may be new to MGs and will expect the battery to be located under the hood like most cars! Well You're wrong!

Ooops forgot a very important thing. You must use a strap to hold down the battery! Otherwise, if you hit a big bump and the battery jumps up and the positive terminal contacts the metal cover of the compartment, you will short out your entire electrical system and/or cause a fire...

well, you can buy those rubber covers for the posts, but, in reality, who wants to ride, around town with a loose battery in your car...secure it,

Those are not "screws" they are Dzus fasteners. "connect your terminals "as you wish", how about connecting them correctly. Did you consider cleaning the battery, the box area and the battery bin itself before putting the battery back? Also making holes or hinged openings for the cables to prevent a potential catastrophic, explosion.

That is a 12v battery box for MGB 1974 onward. It won't enter in any MGB before. It need 6v box

How do you replace the battery? Which terminal goes to the positive and which terminal goes to the negative on battery

On the battery there should be markers that say positive (+) or negative (-). Connect the positive wire to the positive terminal and the negative to the negative terminal.

How do I get the sleeve for the battery and is the compartment the same size for all model years?

You can buy a sleeve from mossmotors.com And yes they are all the same size

Not all model years. MGB went to a single battery in 1975?. close any way, you can bet prior to that, there, were two acid filled batteries in the space behind your seat.
