This is a clip from the first episode of Miami Vice,, Brother's Keeper. The house band is doing a cover of Lionel Richie's All Night Long. Tubb's faces his brother's killer, Calderone. This scene typifies the Miami environment in the mid-80s. Cocaine was rampant and Miami was a major cocaine hub. Along with all the black market-related violence came a vast amount of wealth that helped to rebuild and vitalize the aging Miami cityscape and club scene.

This is one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. The music, the cinematography, the acting.... all spot on.

One great thing about that scene was how it showed Crockett was warming up to Tubbs. He called him "partner" for the first time, then gave him a friendly "Good night, Tubbs."

You can still see a bit of the late 70s in the pilot episodes similar to scarface as big lapels and flared cuts were still fashionable around 83

Every previous decades "vibes" survive for around 2 or 3 years more after the new decade starts (at least for US, here in Chile those seventies vibes lasted until around 1984). I noticed that the 70s style is more evident in older people and non-americans like Calderone, but Tubbs and Crocket got a total 80s style from the very start

I loved how Tubbs would slip in and out of the Jamaican accent when required. The music fits right in as Tubbs comes into the scene and finally gets up close to Calderone - the moment that he has been waiting for. Take be back to the 80s
