this show is the reason i moved to miami.I remember my very first time in downtown miami i went to burdines the florida store department store downtown on a weekday.By 5pm the downtown area was emptying out fast...by 6pm almost totally desserted. The exact opposite of nyc.Miami is truly the most beautiful place on earth. With all the exposure from miami vice the traffic in south beach has increased ten fold i feel bad for the people who live there that they lost there once little quiet peaceful place. However once you go north towards collins and 19th strret and up to 50th street and northwards the traffic does decrease.I specifically wanted to move to a place in dade county that doesnt have the exposure from miami vice so it can retain its tranquility and no crowds like those animals recently causing trouble during spring break on south beach...so i want mention the name.On a personal note how fast life has gone by miami vice seems like just yesterday.miami is truly beautiful.

I understand and appreciate your enthusiasm for Miami Vice. Having said that... purely by sheer luck, in December 1990, I was offered a job in Miami. I moved to Miami in January 1991 and lived there for 23 years. I know Miami and South Beach very well. I even know the guy who rented you the white Ferrari. Lol. He is the brother in law of a friend of mine. My last 8 years in Miami, I lived in downtown... one block from what you called the Miami Building... which is fair. That building changed names MANY times. And the elevators in that building are big enough to hold a volleyball game. Lol. Anyhow... you should have done more homework regarding Miami Vice. Next to the Dade County Courthouse, was a building just west of there on Miami Vice. That building is no longer there. You also missed Biscayne Boulevard... they did so much driving AT NIGHT on Biscayne Boulevard. And that last scene of Miami Vice you pointed out... you did not say it was at Bayfront Park. Many of those buildings along Biscayne Boulevard were NOT there when Miami Vice was filmed. The condos at the northwest corner of Biscayne Boulevard and Flagler Street for example. There used to be an ugly little scattered array of BRIGHT PINK single story shops there. Those shops were never popular. I worked for years in the 30 story building just north of there. My commute was walking 2 blocks to work. Then the company I worked for, did illegal stuff, lost 93% of clients and went out of business. Another key factor to Miami Vice, was the music. To really do the Miami Vice experience, drive along Biscayne Boulevard AT NIGHT in a convertible while listening to “In the Air Tonight” or “Eminence Front” A good friend of mine in Miami was a Location Scout/Manager for Hollywood. By helping him, I got to know a LOT about Miami. I was even an accidental extra in the first episode of “Dexter” ( I was near the “body” at the fountain in Bayfront Park ) and an Antonio Banderas movie... I forget the title. I met so many celebrities... some of whom I did realize they were celebrities. Lol. One female celebrity always liked to hangout and just watch movies with me when she was in town. That was very unexpected. One celebrity only called me when they got drunk at a nearby bar. Lol. I had to play bodyguard and get them home safely. That was never fun. At one of those buildings on Christmas Eve, a friend of mine called me to help him troubleshoot and restore and network that was down. We had no idea what the problem was and it was a high security area... so we went in LOADED with equipment. My friend is 6’10” tall. We went into the lobby of the building. You could just tell the security guards were thinking “Die Hard”. Lol. After a few tense phone calls, we were granted full access, found the problem and fixed. Very memorable night. Lol. I feel blessed to have lived in Miami for as long as I did and get to meet so many amazing people... both locals and celebrities. I spent most of every weekend at Bayside watching bands perform. I spent at least 16 HOURS every weekend enjoying four bands. I am glad you got to enjoy Miami a little bit. On your next trip to Miami, try to schedule it when there is an event at the Olympia Theater... go to the Olympia Theater. That place is a rare gem in today’s world. That theater was built in the 1920’s by Paramount Studios. ( Yes, the same movie studio who gave us Star Trek and Mission: Impossible ) One last detail... Elvis performed on that stage in 1956. It is basically two blocks west of Bayfront Park on Flagler Street.

Interesting comment. I had the chance to live there - twice actually. Companies there (and Florida in general) don't seem to want to pay decent wages though. Maybe people are willing to barely scrape by for the chance to live in Miami. Not me.
