My only beef with some hip hop is how they diss women. Even chris brown does it and he ain't a rapper. I feel like I've been a sleep for 30 years and I woke up one day. Then I was shocked how so many dude's refer to women as bitches/hoes/whore/ sluts/thots. It's crazy how it's the normal. This just can't be a good thing. No matter how much you love hip hop.

This guy has blamed "white america" and government for oppression and didn't consider "making it rain" or "popped a molly I'm sweating" as proponents to spending money in a ridiculous fashion or doing drugs because a rapper commercialized drug usage to an extent yet rap doesn't promote hate or a person's actions? Sounds like another guy that didn't think this through and wrote cool rhyme words that mean nothing and as far as his numbers are concerned on crime apparently he hasn't been to Chicago

Hip-hop's always reached out to kids. If you look at the last 10 big albums it might seem ironic. But when I look at the history of this music it's always had a lot of positivity. LL Cool J

The mainstream genre is fucked up, as is the culture. And you illustrated that fact by pointing out that you have to dig to find the golden songs, the songs with intellegence and real messages and meanings. Why aren't these "golden" songs the ones to be the face of the culture? Why, instead, are Wacka Flacka, Future, Lil Wayne, Chief Keef, etc., driving the culture?

I think is very close minded to think that a whole genre is fucked up, you gotta dig to find the golden songs, the underground place is where the real things are at, dont judge that only for the shits that play at the radio/tv as mainstream

I'm an artist. And if that is your point, then say it, and don't dangle around your point. Rap/dubstep artist. It may not revolve around gangs specifically, but that doesn't mean it doesn't promote violence. Or throwing money up in the air. Those are the ones who get the most recognition out of the other rap music.

Hip-hop is the streets. Hip-hop is a couple of elements that it comes from back in the days... that feel of music with urgency that speaks to you. It speaks to your livelihood and it's not compromised. It's blunt. It's raw, straight off the street - from the beat to the voice to the words. Nas

So why waste my time and energy to debate with an or any anonymous person or people who i don't even know or care to know.So with that being said, My message to you Mr. Dyson. Thank you! For what ever your political reasons are....thank you. Your voice and opinions, is so much appreciated (whether agreed or disagreed) to our culture. In closing, I just wish popular "hip hop" sites would educate our viewers to such videos like this one in particular, instead of just promoting a 1 sided faction.

Complete and utter BS. H ehas no clue what it feels like to be a young Black man with no ambition. That's because their Hip Hop pastors like Jay-Z validate street thuggery and drug dealing. At some point, it becomes the goal in these young people's lives rather than endure the rigors of Academia. I remember when I dropped out of college so I could run the streets and play NWA waiting on a n*gga[sic] to mess up. I had brains, but a LOT of balls to go with them. Ironically Michael Dyson was a source to which my soc. professors would point to. I just lost all respect. I know first hand how this type of theme music seduces the young idle mind until it self destructs into legal problems, addiction and death. Not one kid can I ever remember tried to emulate a T.V detectiveafter they reached high school age and older. That would have requred finishing school and self discipline. Gangsterism offers an easy claim on which to stake your life without a lot of paperwork or formalities. Then to top it off their babies that they had too young are growing up WITH their parents

(cont.) influences behavior and appereance that negatively impacts employability, degrades education and learning, glorifies the hood/poverty giving youths a proud excuse to not progress, celebrates killings when theres already easy access to guns,etc I think I made my point hip hop(mainstream) is poison

I agree, really stupid. Flimsy arguments, self-righteousness and just plain empty points brought up. Michael Eric Dyson, Tricia Rose, James Peterson and Jason Whitlock brought up good points, but they were lost in the screaming...

Yes, that is my reply, and I think you're missing my point, or you're not constructing your point well, because I'm spot on replying to your post. And don't talk to me about poorly constructed responses when I see you seemed to run out of shift key lubricant, and the grammar of a kindergarteners, as well as the fact that you can't read your own point and understand it's meaning. You said directly GANGS produce depictions of GANGS in music. Practically gang propaganda.
@XenoMSD
@XenoMSD 11 жыл бұрын
No, not at all. The music still highlights gang life like it's the best thing ever. If gangs themselves do it, then that means they want the exposure, negative or positive. You make it sound as if the fact that they're trying to influence others through music, which would DEFINITELY be bad, seeing as there are people who buy into it. And what about the rest of what I pointed out? Seriously, don't spit random things to make yourself stupid looking. You're drunk. Go home.

Sorry. But Thumbs down. Too much logical fallacy behind his own "oratorical wizardry". Just because crime is down doesn't mean that rap doesn't cause it. Crime could be down just because the police has been cracking down on it. I lived in a majority black area, and I know all too many who idolized the images in some of those songs, so they joined a gang. And because the CHURCH doesn't stop homophobia and sexism, it shouldn't be? Are you SERIOUS?
