Michael Schenker war noch nie ein Künstler der falschen Kompromisse.
Als Gitarrist in weltbekannten Bands wie den Scorpions oder UFO wurde sein einzigartiger Gitarrenstil schnell zu einem Markenzeichen dieser Bands.
Ende der 70er Jahre wurde das Korsett dieser Bands zunehmend eng für Michael Schenker.
So war es ein nur logischer Schritt, UFO zu verlassen und seine eigene Band zu gründen: die Michael Schenker Group.
Zusammen mit Billy Sheehan (Bass), Denny Carmassi (Schlagzeug) und Sänger Gary Barden nahm er 1980 das MSG-Debüt auf, das bis zum heutigen Tag als eines der stärksten Alben gilt, die Schenker aufgenommen hat.
Für die darauffolgende Tour wurde die Besetzung allerdings erstmals radikal geändert - und für nicht wenige Fans gilt dieses Line-Up bis heute als das Beste der MSG: Neben Schenker und Barder waren Chris Glen am Bass, Paul Raymond an den Keyboards und last but not least Cozy Powell am Schlagzeug zu erleben. Cozy Powell hatte zuvor schon bei Rainbow gespielt, später mit Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, Brian May oder Gary Moore, um nur einige zu nennen.
Und es war speziell Cozy Powells kraftvolles, stabilisierendes Spiel, das dieses Rockpalast-Konzert zu einem seiner beeindruckendsten Auftritte vor seinem Tod im Jahr 1998 macht.
Mitgeschnitten am 24. Januar 1981 in der Markthalle in Hamburg, präsentierte die Michael Schenker Group ihr erstes Album nahezu komplett (und zudem noch in derselben Reihenfolge wie auf dem Album!) mit den zwei größten Songs, die Michael Schenker mit UFO kreiert hat: „Doctor Doctor“ und „Rock Bottom“.
Nach mehr als 20 Jahren ist dieses brillante und intensive Hardrock-Dokument endlich in exzellenter Qualität erhältlich!

That's the most animated I've ever seen Mr. Schenker. Certainly, an improvement on the concert I went to where he stayed half-hidden by a speaker cabinet and never moved the whole time. Still, nothing changes the fact that this song is an absolute classic and more people deserve to know it. Sadly, once again Mr. Mogg shows up every singer who ever attempts this. No-one has ever come close, sorry Gary. Loved you on Built To Destroy though.

@@MazenMohsen-qz8pk Because Michael Schenker's guitar riffs inspired IMMENSE amounts of guitarists to pick up a guitar for the first time and try to learn his riffs. UFO was a highly influential British band for one thing even though they didn't "break America" they still inspired many British bands after them. Ask any "new wave of British metal" band like Iron Maiden, Saxon, and so forth and they would all cite UFO and the guitarists would specifically cite Michael Schenker as a big influence.
