The Chris Cuomo Project

Күн бұрын

In this week’s episode of The Chris Cuomo Project, Chris explores how Americans should be their best during the worst of times, like Hurricane Ian, but how the political game causes complex situations to be reduced to single-factor explanations.
Michael Shellenberger, author and founder of Environmental Progress, joins Chris for an extensive conversation about his book “San Fransicko” and the cultural stigma behind treatments for addiction and mental health, misconceptions about the potential and safety of nuclear power, and much more.
Follow and subscribe to The Chris Cuomo Project on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and KZbin for new episodes every Tuesday.

I would like to see more conversations about homelessness, those who are stuck in it & how we can help them. I'd actually like to be involved, as a small-time advocate & community organizer in Detroit. I have been homeless myself & feel I have a lot to offer by way of perspective, understanding and ways to help lift people out of hopelessness. You can never understand unless you experience it.

Thank you for pointing out the mess that is the press, Congress, and honestly, members of the public. It has been way too much. Would love to just see us thinking clearly and working collectively to make the country and the world better. My prayer is that we can get beyond this time. The toxicity in the country is not sustainable. Only 17 mins in. Edit: Great discussion. It does help to have these intelligent and measured talks. The only alert for me around the guest was his being ok with receiving support from someone against CRT. CRT is reality for many of us in America. Either way, on the whole, I would not only listen to him, I would work with him. This was a masterclass on how the media should be doing their job. Inform and provoke conscious thought.

I lived in LA for 18 years, and the bay area for about four. The weather definitely makes things easier for people to remain outside, however California law makes it very difficult even if you are a family member to have someone committed or to get them actual real help for substance abuse etc. We tried to commit one of my friends who is a danger to herself and the hospital could not keep her for more than a week. The parents could not mandate anything. They had to let her out on the streets again. So many people in California are living that way. not to mention what is happening with the rents there and all over the country, it’s forcing more regular people who don’t have major problems into dire situations. What they are trying to do on Virginia key in Miami, trying to warehouse homeless people miles away from services to get them out of sight, is another huge problem. Just 10 minutes in to this but yes so many issues.

Hi Peace, Love the name. I am on the East coast...I have been so troubled by homelessness all of my life. Walking in the city was a struggle every day! Who do I give money to? I actually had to pick a couple of people, they were so beautiful . Then I saw California and I almost died. I couldn't even wrap my head around it! Then just regular people couldn't even pay rent. Then I saw parking lots allowing for people who live in cars! Please know Peace that I haven't even scratched the surface, but we are thinking ABOUT you. Stay Free Free Agent Bev

Thanks a lot CHRIS for letting me get to know him. How could he room in the USA’s system. He’s Calm. Incredible intelligent in a humble way with an empathetic view of those who have nothing and are ill. I don’t know if you notice the way each time he wanted you believe in him or referred to an important matter he touched his heart with his right hand. All my life I related NUCLEAR- RADIATION till one day, 2 years ago, a 11 years old boy friend of of my youngest daughter JULIA, said to me: - Nuclear is safe and the most efficient energy for the environment! His father, an engineer, looked at me and asserted. He works at one Nuclear Base here. Let me rethinking about the whole. But lots of education is still needed. That is why, when you started talking about it, I remembered this little kid. They are the Climate Change Generation so this issue is going to be crucial for their lives. Such an incredible impact your sister MARIA is giving for those with addictions and homeless- I Do Thank you for opening my mind and getting to know - such an interesting leader with no team that should be inside for the good of the people and atufe he cares about. 🍀 Pd how could he have room. Hi Chris, My father was NYC born, graduated from Rensselaer with a degree in Civil Engineering. My father always believed that Nuclear Power was the smartest option for supplying clean energy to the world. Although, my father passed 1991, I know he would still promote and support the use of Nuclear Power plants. He believed N P was a very efficient energy source. Of course, these nuclear plants would need to be built in geographically safe areas, with round the clock maintenance checks for any concerning issues or possible problems that may develop. Thank you for discussing this energy option that has been dismissed by so many.

I made it through relatively well considering I kept avoiding the algorithm that was feeding this video to my home page. I watched a 5 minute blurb of this interview and wanted to punch Schellenberger in the face, then I looked him up tonight because 3 or 4 times I avoided this full episode, and found it was an episode on Climate Change. So many discussions that could be had and avenues explored from it but let me summarize my thoughts with this: I do think our Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights are sufficient if we were all good people. The problem is this, a fellow tenant of mine who was in the homeless shelters with me told me he was not supportive of our Freedom Documents because slavery is condoned in the Constitution. I've come to agree with him from the experiences I'm suffering at the hands of the alarmists who will vote to the line of "transfer of wealth." This black man, has beautiful teeth mind you. Eats horribly, but beautiful, white, sharp, teeth.

Love your show and podcast. Even a homeless persons knows not to be homeless in Boston during the winter. California is habitable even in the winter. Homelessness is partly due to big pharma, they need to kick in $$$ to help work on the problem. The high rent also adds to the lack of affordable housing. Glad Newsom remained Governor, Larry Elder would have been a disaster.

Drawing an X on the China comments. When getting my ultrasounds while pregnant in 2011, I had the pleasure of meeting a Chinese RN who was shadowing my RN. The Chinese I've met are very open about their culture and equally as inquisitive and informative for dialogue. I asked him, "Will you tell me about China's one child policy?" He told that it was an effort to slow down population growth, which makes sense from the research I've done on China and their environmentalism. The problem came in, he said, when the people freely modified the intent to perpetuate their culture. The government wasn't going in and killing babies number 2 and 3, the parents were and the population was becoming imbalanced. So, China had to modify the policy to counter balance how the people interpreted the law and remained free to build their own families. Very contrary to U.S. propaganda of how China works, and it angers me to here them get thrown under the bus for ignorance and a lack of bravery to bother to ask.

fabulous guy.........he is totally on the nose re addictions and mental health issues. I worked in GB for over 20years with vulnerable people living in the community and a key part of supporting them was risk assessment - basically where are the areas that these vulnerable people might fall down into pot holes.......and then once we have identified these what can we put in place to reduce the risks. Some of that is ongoing support and part of it is putting in guard rails. If you allow vulnerable the whole range of choice they will firstly be informed by the unhealthy (the addiction) and secondly be overwhelmed by what seems alien to them. Same as with children (no im no calling vulnerable adults children) ......you give them some choice but not everything they choose......because they are not capable of making clear sighted choices. We risk assess with our kids......yes you can do that but this is too risky at the moment. You walk with them to making more and more choices.......we need to do this with vulnerable people too - great episode

Interesting discussion about nuclear power, but it mainly focused on the advantages over fossil fuel without discussing much about the drawbacks such as how much nuclear waste is created and how much time it takes to decay. More importantly, you also seemed to completely ignore the fact that one of the reasons some people are weary of nuclear power plants is the risk of it being used as a target in a terrorist attack, especially a power plant like Indian Point so close to a dense urban area.

Trust is a big problem within the homeless community. The Lord protects what is his, Haggai 2:8. For example, two of my grandfather's, one a stepfather, had Alzheimer's but when with me very lucid. Each time I called them on what I believed to be a game of escape with them, I got the look that went with the speech I got when I was younger, "I went to WWII. I'm not afraid to kill anyone." I had two letters from generals to join OCS in the military but never sent the application because I couldn't obey an order to kill. Now, after divorce and losing my child for political gaming and tax evasion, seeing what the homeless go through after hearing my grandparents say, "Oh, she'll go homeless before she'll ever do that," in reference to me, I'd have no problem with using a gun. I pray daily to not be put there, but when we have this country demanding what it is, and they did give up Jesus as he warned not to do in Matthew 10:16-42, there are some people I could kill stone cold and sleep well at night.

Newsome during the pandemic bought up motel size and placed as many people as he could and provided food and guidance to them. I think I remember that. Absolutely understand the lack available resources is a problem. Do we really have to use religion as a driver for guidlines. At one point homeless people were bused to Eureka from San Francisco which was not a solution. Eureka lost slot of tourism because of crime. The solution is address homelessness head on. There are examples of homeless people being treated with humanity they get stronger in a lot of cases. I think sometimes hitting the problems head on. Meet the moment.

Yes! It's real! Thank you. A tip about the fixes and all this "game". To come up with solutions, people need to be creative first, including extreme, so that something can lead to an actual development, it's how the process works. Have you heard of the Rogers "Innovation and creativity", who is an early adapter, or a follower (the masses) and a laggard? Worthy to have in mind and part of my education in Organizational Change, that I hope will bring something productive and helpful, at least eventually. When it comes to nuclear power plants, I think it's about the waste - where to keep it. Has this changed or become better? And no, it's not just "the game", it's an actual development of awareness, I think. Because Trump had his gaffes, people are more likely to look for the same in the next president, regardless of it would be Biden or someone else. -- I think people in general become mentally ill and take drugs more AFTER having become homeless to cope, or even worse, you just think so when you see ppl who can't walk straight, when it in fact can be due to actual exhaustion. To be unemployed and not having an income, doesn't constitute a reason to be deemed insane or assumed to be a drug addict. I happen to know this by experience. And I am so glad that the US still has a bit of respect for individuals' freedom, which Sweden hasn't, at least not to the same degree. Everybody should have a home. And for example, the pregnant woman might have been afraid that you would rape her would she go with you inside. And, I would get physically ill if you force me to eat bread and pasta or milk since I'm intolerant to gluten and lactose. People assume a lot about what and how to help instead of actually asking and accepting that in the majority of cases, it's all about money. I have been homeless and I have never taken any drugs, not even smoking. And then I am being called insane since that is the only other option by senseless authorities who refuse to acknowledge their own vulnerability. You too, can loose your home and you are no better than anybody else, in the face of any trauma. Can you phantom getting a job and not being allowed to work, because the university didn't endorse my visa to, (even as USCIS said yes!) and having to shoplift food instead? I have had to do that both in Hawaii, and in Sweden, whose system I definitely want to leave. And I have all this on paper. SF is a sanctuary city, thank God.

Nuclear and convenience, may be the category to put this uncertainty of mine: I don't understand, mind you this idea takes money away from my project, but I don't understand why we aren't spending billions or more, including media bombs, on cleaning up the WWII chemical waste in our oceans? God recedes all the rivers? Get a crane and recycle the steal. People want to be a pharmacist, learn to scuba dive and figure out the drugs our sea life is inhaling and decide how fast we can bring it up and recycle it for energy. God is melting our glaciers to dilute so our whales, e.g., who can live 800 years don't get exterminated. The book Ocean by Sylvia Earle is beautiful, and well written.

Right wing hit dogs hollering indeed. Progressive Dems damn sure ain't perfect and flawed as hell. But you right wingers really need to stop that both sides crap. With your side not wanting to pass anything to help American people, Jan 6th & Trump is a subject all unto itself and your characters from Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Gym Jordan, R Kelly Congressman version Matt Gaetz and the beloved of non melinated conservatives of HOT AZZ MESS Herschel Walker is definitely enough to make anyone eyeroll at your comment 🙄. Sweep around your own front door of LOTS OF DIRT to hold the right accountable for buddy.🤨😏
