Great video! Couple things, to consider. I’ve built my raptor 660 and made a video about it. 1) your frame appears to have issues/cracks or bad welds just behind the pegs on the vertical sections. 2) your transmission appears to be 01 gears, 02 and later have a small indent in the gear teeth for oiling, I know you said it’s an 04, but someone might have put an earlier engine into a later frame. Google the difference between the 01 gears and 02 later, 02 later 2nd gear and 4th gear have different dogs - 4 vs 3 make them stronger. 3) if it is a 01 engine harness, you will need the 01 CDI as the wiring is slightly different. 4) that impulse gear you can shave all the teeth down to just 4, it’s for your speed limiter. 5) the generator case requires a gasket to ensure proper gear spacing, and don’t forget the o-rings on the big l dowels as it’s for the oiling system. 6) also, YZF450 and raptor 700 brakes will bolt on and you will have stronger brakes. I’m watching with massive anticipation. Great video so far!
@MichaelSabo2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for all the tips and info man! Frame is definitely an 04 - I will check those spots and weld up anything that looks suspicious. Its a damn shame if someone put 01 gears in here, or maybe just an entire 01' bottom end. I will look a little deeper!
@gordonwbell2 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelSabo ya man! 💪🏻 I love your vids, your quality is top notch man. Keep’m coming. I’m especially keen to see what you do with the raptor, because like I said above, I own one that I rebuilt - but yours is going to be wayyyy better for sure! Also for your jetting, start your pilots at 25 for both carbs - 2 turns out, mains should be 155 in the left one and 160 in the right, and needles - either GYTR or stage 2/7 dyno jet kit with the needles at middle. That should get you in the ball park to start.

KG to add to that a lot of 660’s have the rear sub frame bolts stripped, for $40-$50 it’s always easier to purchase a nice clean rear sub frame off eBay 👍🏻

That pile of boxes reminds me of the time I got 9 packages in the mail in one day. Good day. PSN makes me sad sometimes. They part out some GOOD rigs. But, some have to die so that others may live, cruel as it is. Suzuki LT230/250S and LT230E used a linkage like that, so it's not just a Yamaha flaw. And the Suzuki's wear out FASTER. And they are all really OLD. And the parts are either discontinued or really expensive. And all the used parts are smoked. And there is no alternative. Alloybolts is GOOD stuff! Bought from them before for several rigs. They even make kits for you if you tell them all the bolt sizes. They may even offer the kit I gave them the info for. 1986 CR125R. Good stuff! Oh come on Mike! A big, strong, tough guy like you hates lil, itsy bitsy, teensy weensy spiders? No way! You know what would happen if you disturb a spider like that? It would run away from you like it's life depended on it! Remember, they're more scared of you than you are of them! Man, that engine is a WRECK. Jeez. +1 on the bag o' bolts from PSN! Bought one for an 87 LT4WD basket case myself!

Okay, so I've personally spray painted two atv frames (Warrior & Blaster) and done correctly they look freakin sweet but the key word in the sentence is "correctly". You gotta strip everything off so there's no over spray on anything. I do admit nothing holds up as good as powder coat but some people are on very tight budgets and have to do what they have to do. Had a Lexx MXe slip on echaust on my wifes raptor 660 in the past. the lexx exhaust comes factory with a silencer spark arrestor and sound like stock. if you want more sound, you will need to order the mesh spark arrestor. Also you can thread bolts through the case ( where you were going to put the puller) and align the crank so that the bolts press against it and push the crank out. not the correct method, but has always worked for me some other advise i have is check the valve lash, specifically the exhaust, with the engine is out. other wise there isnt a lot of room and is a bitch to lash with the engine in the quad
