Went to a different yarn store recently, and the lady asked if I knit. I said, "No, I crochet" and she started going on about how SHE feels like crochet isn't "real" like knitting because people don't make "real" stuff like hats, socks, etc. and I was very confused hearing this come from a YARN store owner. you do you, boo... but I've done a lot with crochet, more than some people have knitted their whole life of knitting I cant imagine trying to talk to someone like that just because you don't prefer a craft, especially when they told you. "hey i do this craft"

I’ve been to a few yarn stores like that! Personally i think crocheting is more fun than knitting! Lol
@narcoloopsie9993 күн бұрын
I’ve always felt the opposite because crochet isn’t as easily replicated by a machine like knitting it. If I saw someone wearing something crocheted, I knew that it was hand made either by them or someone who cared for them (I know that’s not really the case anymore but)
@BriStella3 күн бұрын
I would've walked away from the store and left them with their monologue, would not buy from someone that just insulted me/mycraft/myoccupation 🤨 People are just as2holes with no reason and I hate that
@1windycitygirl3 күн бұрын
I also have run into this issue where yarn store owners don’t give me credit for crocheting. They believe that knitting is real and not crochet. I vowed to never frequent their store again. It validates me to hear that others have faced this issue. I learned to crochet late in life and am so proud of myself.
@ArawynnEveningstar2 күн бұрын
Wow she sounds like a gem. I would not be purchasing from a store like that at all. Personally I have been able to do more things with crochet than knitting. I would be tempted to tell her that "at least crochet can't be replicated by a machine", but I am petty.

Its so interesting how the granny square yarn works up for different people. For me, I had to use a 6.5 mm to get the stitches to line up. It makes no sense in my brain that you could use a smaller hook and still run out but I would always have extra 😅
@muchbluhhКүн бұрын
I litterally just tried it today and had to use 6.5 as well! And i had to go loose on the petals!

I wanted to say how much I appreciate seeing you work with and love acrylic yarn. Some times I feel like I'm looked down on for using acrylic instead of an expensive 100% wool or cotton or other fibers. Those fibers aren't acceptable for me. I like seeing you use, love, work with, and love the final results of you projects made with acrylic. It helps me feel better and helps me from feeling guilty for liking my finished projects too. Thank you ❤

I'm actually making a Cardigan with the "Dried bouquet" color and I get the same issues! I just REALLLLLLLY tighten my tension sometimes since I'm too lazy to constantly switch hook sizes (I went with the 5.5mm hook) lol your scarf is a whole entire vibe and fits your aesthetic❤ the border was 👌🏽😌 *chef's kiss*

Maybe it's because I'm a Wisconsin girlie, but the green and yellow square is giving Green Bay Packers vibes. Also Red Heart, please sponsor Michelle so we can see her test all the colors!!!!

I promise you're not doing anything wrong, I've seen ppl measure the colors and they're not consistent within the same color let alone different skiens
@ashlynnbishop71742 күн бұрын
They are NOT consistent at all XD, granny square and I assume we see in this video, one color will have several inches more than the previous color or lessof course (I have pulled it apart and measured them)

It's very definite and clear that everyone has different tension but by trying different hook sizes this yarn can work universally. I have tighter tension so needed to use a 6.5mm and always had EXTRA yarn leftover after doing the flower/petals, was never running out?! Your scarf looks lovely and I really agree about the scalloped edges, really nice touch! I love the peacock and pink colour way the most I think, and the name is brilliant, hyacinth bucket, c'mon! 🤣 (From Keeping up Appearances, a British TV show).
@no1pinkjellybean2 күн бұрын
for the name of science, could you unravel (from the skein) about what it would take to make 5 or more of of the granny squares, and measure each color. perhaps from those measurements you could have a better idea of what hook to use, and how tight to crochet. frankly i think this yarn is more trouble then it's worth. Your scarf is very gosh darn cute. It's your channel and your projects, give your self 1000 out of 10!

i've been in a granny square phase, but now I have to make a scarf like this! its soo cute! 😍
@XDsymphony2 күн бұрын
I used a 6mm hook and it worked for me on all 3 skeins I used. I definitely have tight tension. I did have stitch looser a couple times I do like how much of the final colour of each square. The original one had like no yarn colour left over so it sucked to weave in.
@creative27162 күн бұрын
❤ crochet granny squares. (not so much variegated yarns, but love ombres)

I got the Cherry Blossom color to make a hooded scarf for my coworker and I guess I have the right tension for these because I've never really had any issues for the color changing lol.

OOh excited to get into this. I made a sweater with some yarn that was not labeled as "granny square" yarn but it looked the same just different label and it kinda made the sweater have a spiral look, but it would've looked better as a granny square so maybe I used the wrong hook size.

Your scarf looks great. Did steaming the squares make it softer?
@wallysworld34352 күн бұрын
Seems I’ve heard they give so much extra to use it to sew the squares together. I bought 3 colors, 2 each to make something. I didn’t do it on purpose but they all have yellow centers. Have yet to start….

Beautiful 😍 What kind of granny square is this?
@StetStitches2 күн бұрын
It is really cute, and I do really like especially the colors of the green and yellow, but I don’t think I’d be willing to put up with having to switch hooks and an redo things with slightly different tension… I’d rather just weave in ends, I guess. 😂
@HodgePodgeCrochet2 күн бұрын
When I worked the all in one granny, I think I had to bump my hook to an 8! I did a whole skein and made a really cute scarf with it. :) I won’t buy any of this though. It’s just not worth the stress, lol.
